Adam Chapman from Westermeyer Industries two main tips you need to watch out for are:
    1. Verify your sizing! Any type of oil separator has a min/max discharge CFM rating (DCFM). Proper oil separation is all based on proper mass flow. To size an oil separator properly for basic refrigeration systems, you’ll need to know your refrigerant, saturated suction temperature (SST), saturated condensing temperature (SCT), and your BTU load.
    2. Keep your oil management system clean. Monitor your pressure drop across your coalescing oil separators and/or inline oil filters. Make sure you are cleaning your oil floats if it is a low-pressure oil system. Properly maintained systems are going to provide long-term reliability. A clean oil management system is an effective system!

I stupidly changed out a compressor because I was getting oil lockouts that I couldn't figure out. Prior to that, I changed the oil float, and oil pump. Turns out, it was a compound compressor and the y10 valve was bad. I was always told that you only needed the y10 for r22. This store had 407a. The discharge temperatures were around 250 degrees. That oil just got too hot and it wouldn't pump properly. Now I know better. Only took me replacing a compressor that didn't need to be replace to begin with.... At least it was 20 something years old.

Its all about learning and you will never forget this. I have learned so much from mistakes I have made in the field and always made me a better technician so I did not do it a second time.

For Precision Air Conditioning system this model oil separator is used for scroll inverter compressor. Oil level is not maintaining on top sight glass in oil separator in full load. What is minimum oil level in top sight glass in oil separator and bottom sight glass is full

Depends on the system manufacturer I would say above the bottom sight glass

    Good info here!
Once I found armaflex insulated separator in outdoor rack house. Why’d you insulate it?

One of the main reasons would be if you are located in a cold climate you want to keep them warm during the off cycle because you do not want refrigerant to migrate to the oil separator and condensate in the oil. If that happens the separator could start feeding liquid refrigerant back to the compressors.

what particularly hot, discharge pipe line? compressor body, oil seperator, liquid line. air vent/.

If you have a really hot line oil line you are probably overheating the oil, if it is cold you could have liquid refrigerant and the oil and if the oil line is room temperature something could be plugged.

so i'm seeing folks install these mini split systems ans coiling the access lines next to the outside unit .... is this a problem ?

Can you clean a borsilicate coalescer?

I am not sure. If it’s hermetically sealed i would think not.

Whats a good oil separator for recovery of r22 into a bottle

That is a good question. I have not used an oil separator before to recover r22. I am curious now.

Hello. Nice video. Recently change a compressor (broken rod and piston) on a condensing unit 10 hp R404a for a low temp aplication. There is no oil separator. Need some advice about selection of the oil separator, how to regulate the oil back to the compressor and what line components are required?Help please.

This could be from a few different things like you lost all the oil from a leak, improper p-traps and risers so the refrigerant velocity is incorrect or not properly sloping piping back to the compressor. It could be from inadequate defrosting as well. You can use Westermeyer's calculator to calculate the correct separator for your system. It is pretty easy if you have the system design conditions.
