I agree I am in NZ and have been fighting for my son whom is still tapering off of two pysch drugs and his Dr just says nothing and now covid has come into the conversation to do with exemption for wearing a mask. He would panic if her wore one...nothing ever changes here in NZ either...all talk no helping people under MH...sad so sad.

@@kiwitraveller6451 I'm also based in NZ and have been doing my own research for the last 5 years as doctors did not believe me. I'm tapering off Benzos super slow and understand what your son must be facing. I'm 42 and my life will never be the same due to the meds. I'm on such a low dose, yet experiencing severe withdrawal with each minute taper.
We could perhaps share notes or just have one conversation to help us remember that we're not alone in this. I'm doing better, but still have a long journey ahead. I have a psychology and physiology degree and have worked in the medical space for a long time (not as a health care professional).
If you're keen to get in touch, let me know.
I hope to hear from you.

I had a marriage break up after 40 years, I broke down in the doctors with uncontrollable crying. They sent me to the mental health unit and put me on antidepressants!
Can you believe it!!! I wasn’t depressed, I was grieving, loosing my house as well, so was in a bad emotional state! There was no empathy at all, just a script 😢

I liked your analogy of dogs and their behaviours and how ready most people are to accept this is a result of possible traumatic experiences....funny also how many parents or schools seem to fail to make the link between certain behaviours and possible traumas, large or small or just plain absence of certain developmental needs being met or emotional neglect which in many ways is almost normalised or omnipresent in our society.
It seems people have more empathy for dogs than they do people..or at least here in the UK thats the case !! I love dogs but when people find it easier to feel empathy for dogs than they do other people then you have to ask why we seem so ready to pathologise people's emotions in general and ready to stigmatise or other them...maybe its because deep down people are so scared of these emotions in themselves.

People hurt themselves or others when Emotionally Distressed. Emotional distress can take your ability to think offline until you start writing. Writing has been shown to be the most Effective Thing when upset - yes - even major upsets. For years i kept cracking up until i returned to writing. You are having a reasonable response to an unreasonable circumstance !

He's a professor who tells the truth. Remove the coercion & lies from psychiatry. Bring back good old fashioned talking therapy. But government pays for pills - much cheaper than paying for real therapists & nurses...millions on pensions in public housing would lose their benefits if the truth of what John Read says was acknowledged.

Mental "illness" medication is Enormous business. Business. Therapy is business. Write. Tell yourself the truth. Truth is a lot of us had crap family. Treated us more like slaves & hostages than as people who needed to be spoken to with something other than judgment & criticism. Sometimes we prefer to call ourselves crazy or depressed, rather than admit the people in our lives are a bit woeful !

There needs to be an overhaul in mental health treatment options. There should be places where people can straight away go when in crisis that aren’t cold sterile and unfeeling hospitals and places that are warm, welcoming and different therapies offered. For things like severe depression and extreme anxiety/ ocd. We need to build those weapons and prioritise it. Perhaps spend a bit less on weapons of war
