- Hoa hậu H'Hen Niê là người đẹp dân tộc đầu tiên đăng quang ngôi vị cao nhất tại một cuộc thi nhan sắc Việt Nam. Cô sinh năm 1992 trong một gia đình người dân tộc Ê Đê tại tỉnh Đắk Lắk. Người đẹp 26 tuổi được công chúng biết tới lần đầu khi tham gia chương trình Vietnam's Next Top Model 2015.
Sau khi giành Top 5 cuộc thi Hoa hậu Hoàng Vũ 2018, H'Hen Niê đã đến giao lưu và trả lời phỏng vấn BBC News Tiếng Việt.

Hello, this is BBC Vietnamese and we would like to invite all audiences of BBC Vietnamese listen to our special interview with H'Hen Nie - Miss Universe Vietnam 2018 and Top 5 Miss Universe 2018. Please leave questions in the comment section.
H'Hen: Maybe just simple questions that I can answer quickly [laugh]
Interviewer: This is so far the highest achievement from Vietnamese contestants in the competition. How did you feel about it?
H'Hen: I could not believe this is the best result so far. In fact, when I walked with Miss. Puerto Rico into the backstage, everybody asked how I felt. I simply said that I was really happy. My goal is to be on Top 10, even Top 20 and being on Top 5 is actually over my expectations.
Interviewer: Why so?
H'Hen: It is because that I lack of a set of skills needed for a Miss Universe, especially in English. And I think, it is extremely important when you are a Miss Universe. You need to be fluent in English to be able to communicate with people and other communities, especially when you need to travel to other parts of the world.
Interviewer: [This is the question from an audience]. Are you nervous during the competition?
H'Hen: Well, I am actually nervous a lot of times. Especially in the opening section, I was extremely nervous. I tried to hug everyone and told them how I felt. I hugged everyone to keep calm and also wanted to wish them the best luck. When I was in Top 20, now it got even more nervous. I just told myself to be calm and tried the best I could.
Interviewer: Soon after this interview, you'll depart to Vietnam. What will you do first when you are in Vietnam?
H'Hen: During the competition, I was supported by a lot of Vietnamese press and journalists. I was grateful for it and definitely want to spend a huge thank to all of my supporters.
Interviewer:[Question from the audience] Did you regret of anything after all?
H'Hen: I have really no regret at all. I meant, when you are climbing on the moutain, it'd better to look up rather than look down, right? I believe that when I keep going, I can reach the top of the moutain.
Interviewer: When the Miss Philippines wins, what do you think?
H'Hen: She is very deserving for this prize. Not only she, from the competition, you can see all other contestants like Miss Puerto Rico, Miss South Africa are also deserving high prizes in this competition. Miss Phillipines got a strong English skills, with her intelligence, and warmness, the results were not out of expectations.
Interviewer: And what do you feel about Thailand as a host country? And also the Thai people and their food?
H'Hen: I learned about the kindness, friendliness and the sweetness of the country and Thai people. They are very friendly and kind to you. They also keep their traditions very well and this is something we should learn about. And the food here fits me totally. I love it.
Interviewer: Can you tell something in Thai?
H'Hen: Yes. {Hello}. {Thank you}. {Saying Hi to her supporters}
Interviewer: In this competition, there was a viral clip in which the Miss USA had said about your English skills. What did you think about it?
H'Hen: She cares for me and that's why she gave me an honest comment. And I know that this is the truth and I should improve it. Miss USA and me have a good friendship during the competition and she is indeed a very nice and beautiful one.
Interviewer: Now can you say something in English? Maybe introduce yourself once more time?
H'Hen: Yes sure.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] How did you feel when you have got no financial back-up from business man who often supports beauty pageants? Is it a drawback for you?
H'Hen: I believe that in whenever I do, if I can manage myself and am successful in it, I am so grateful and happy. There is no drawback.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] Would you take part in other beauty pageants after this?
H'Hen: [laugh] No. This is already one of the biggest beauty contests. Maybe in other types of contest, but for beauty pageants, this is enough.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] There were complaints about your interpreter that failed to express your opinion in the Final. What do you think?
H'Hen: She already did a lot to help me. Without her, I could not be in the Top 5. She helped me a lot with the interpretation and please give her the compliments she should deserve.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] What do you think about other former Vietnamese contestants in the Miss Universe?
H'Hen: They inspire me a lot. Because each year, Miss Universe has a different set of categories to choose so I believe that they already did a very good job. They helped me a lot in preparation for this year.
Interviewer: What is your future plan?
H'Hen: I would like to do something for my community. I want to help them in the agricultural (e.g.:coffee production) or to do more charity services. Because I know that with my voice and my influence, they can trust me and I can create more impact in the society.
Interviewer: How to say your name in your own ethnic language?
H'Hen: They will usually say faster than the Vietnamese way [smile]
Interviewer: Do you feel your own ethnic language that will soon be extinct?
H'Hen: The language we speak is not common in Vietnamese-speaking areas, thus, in some furthest parts of my howetown, it can be maintained. However, what I consider mostly are the traditions of E-de people as well as their culture. I also have plans to keep this and empower to the younger generations in order to keep it maintained.
Interviewer: How is it going so far?
H'Hen: I am thinking of sponsorship from government to proceed with it.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] After this competition, what you think will be the criteria for choosing a represent of Vietnam in the upcoming beauty contests?
H'Hen: Well, I am also just a contestant and I do not know how it will be in the future. However, I believe a beauty with a kind heart will be sufficient.
Interviewer: Do you have any fun stories in the competition to share with the audience?
H'Hen: [laugh] I would say that I always smile whenever I don't know how to answer [laugh] Well, in fact, I had a very good relationship with Miss South Korea, I guess, because we have the same level of English [laugh]. We adviced each other on our diets, to eat and not to eat which things that make us fat [laugh]. When we can't communicate, we used Google Translate to talk with each other and that was really funny.
Interviewer: I would like to ask another question about the freedom of press and journalism. What do you think about it?
H'Hen: Well, that's a difficult question. However, I believe the freedom of press and journalism is important and essential since it helps us to be creative, and to be creative to write what we think.
Interviewer: Thank you for your answer.

sivakumar subramaniam Miss Vietnam did introduce herself again in English 😊 But I’d glad to share with you in general what she mentioned in this interview . Miss Vietnam indicated that she very feels blessed to be in the top 5 and thank you everyone for their support. She also said she thinks Miss Philippine truly deserved the title of Miss Universe because she is very nice and very articulate in English . She also said that Miss USA was very supportive of her and helped her despite what may have appeared in the social media. Also she is thankful for the interpreter, although her supporters are mad for the translation was not properly translated . These are the top few issues I can only elaborate , hopefully you can help to let the rest of the world know that Miss Vietnam is an amazing young lady with a golden heart . Thank you

OMG this is an awesome interview. She is so adorable and has the biggest heart. You can totally hear it in her voice and answers how kind hearted she is. Such a simple soul and very forgiving. Your win reminded me of how Venus Raj ended the 11 year drought of PH in MU. It was so wonderful back then and my fellow pinoys were not so overly confident back then. Such a beautiful person both in and out Miss Vietnam. You make us proud to be Vietnamese with your natural beauty and intelligence . Having said that, the reporter was very unprofessional throughout the interview and make the interview very distracting with his finger snapping. But again, Miss H'Hen was very calm, classy and manage to keep her composure throughout. I see her as more professional than he is. Such a shame people like him can works for the BBC.

She mentioned she was super thrilled and satisfied making it to top 5 because she knows her limitations in communication in English and she think Miss Universe needs to travel to different countries and inspire people worldwide. Her goal in the competition was making top 20 and to be named top 5 is more than enough for her! She said he has no regret in the competition and she think Miss Philippine’s win is very convincing! H'Hen: It is because that I was not fully prepared and lack of a set of skills needed for a Miss Universe, especially in English. And I think, it is extremely important when you are a Miss Universe. You need to be fluent in English to be able to communicate with people and other communities, especially when you need to travel to other parts of the world.
Interviewer: [This is the question from an audience]. Are you nervous during the competition?
H'Hen: Well, I was actually nervous a lot of times, before and after getting into the Top 20. Especially in the opening section, I was extremely nervous. I tried to hug everyone and told them how I felt. I hugged everyone to keep calm and also wanted to wish them the best luck. When I got further in the competion (Top 10, and Top 5 ), now it got even more nervous. I just told myself to be calm and tried the best I could.
Interviewer: Soon after this interview, you'll depart to Vietnam. What will you do first when you are in Vietnam?
H'Hen: During the competition, I was supported by a lot of Vietnamese press and journalists. I was grateful for it and definitely want to spend a huge thank to all of my supporters.
Interviewer:[Question from the audience] Did you regret of anything after all?
H'Hen: I have really no regret at all. There are no point in doing that. I meant, when you are climbing on the moutain, it'd better to look up rather than look down, right? I believe that when I keep going, I can reach the top of the moutain.
Interviewer: When Miss Philippines wins, what do you think?
H'Hen: She is very deserving for this prize. Not only she, from the competition, you can see all other contestants like Miss Puerto Rico, Miss South Africa are also deserving high prizes in this competition. Miss Phillipines got strong English skills, with her intelligence, and warmness, the results were not out of expectations.
Interviewer: And what do you feel about Thailand as a host country? And also the Thai people and their food?
H'Hen: I learned about the kindness, friendliness and the sweetness of the country and Thai people. They are very friendly and kind to you. They also keep their traditions very well and this is something we should learn about. And the food here fits me totally. I even gained weight during the competition. I love it.
Interviewer: Can you tell something in Thai?
H'Hen: Yes. {Hello}. {Thank you}. {Saying Hi to her supporters}
Interviewer: In this competition, there was a viral clip in which Miss USA had said about your English skills. What did you think about it?
H'Hen: She cares for me and that's why she gave me an honest comment. And I know that this is the truth and I should improve it. Miss USA and me had a good friendship during the competition, and she is indeed a very nice and beautiful one.
Interviewer: Now can you say something in English? Maybe introduce yourself once more time?
H'Hen: Yes sure.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] How did you feel when you have got no financial back-up from business man who often supports beauty pageants? Is it a drawback for you?
H'Hen: I believe that in whenever I do, if I can manage myself and am successful in it, I am so grateful and happy. There is no drawback.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] Would you take part in other beauty pageants after this?
H'Hen: [laugh] No. This is already one of the biggest beauty contests. Maybe in other types of contest, but for beauty pageants, this is enough.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] There were complaints about your interpreter that failed to express your opinion in the Final. What do you think?
H'Hen: She already did a lot to help me. Without her, I could not be in the Top 5. She helped me a lot with the interpretation and please give her the compliments she should deserve.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] What do you think about other former Vietnamese contestants in the Miss Universe?
H'Hen: They inspire me a lot. Because each year, Miss Universe has a different set of categories to choose so I believe that they already did a very good job. They helped me a lot in preparation for this year.
Interviewer: What is your future plan?
H'Hen: I would like to do something for my community. I want to help them in the agricultural (e.g.:coffee production) or to do more charity services. Because I know that with my voice and my influence, they can trust me and I can create more impact in the society.
Interviewer: How to say your name in your own ethnic language?
H'Hen: They will usually say faster than the Vietnamese way [smile]
Interviewer: Do you feel your own ethnic language that will soon be extinct?
H'Hen: The language we speak is not common in Vietnamese-speaking areas, thus, in some furthest parts of my howetown, it can be maintained. However, what I consider mostly are the traditions of E-de people as well as their culture. I also have plans to keep this and empower to the younger generations in order to keep it maintained.
Interviewer: How is it going so far?
H'Hen: I am thinking of sponsorship from government to proceed with it.
Interviewer: [Question from audience] After this competition, what you think will be the criteria for choosing a represent of Vietnam in the upcoming beauty contests?
H'Hen: Well, I am also just a contestant and I do not know how it will be in the future. However, I believe a beauty with a kind heart will be sufficient.
Interviewer: Do you have any fun stories in the competition to share with the audience?
H'Hen: [laugh] I would say that I always smile whenever I don't know how to answer [laugh] Well, in fact, I had a very good relationship with Miss South Korea, I guess, because we have the same level of English [laugh]. We adviced each other on our diets, to eat and not to eat which things that make us fat [laugh]. When we can't communicate, we used Google Translate to talk with each other and that was really funny.
Interviewer: I would like to ask another question about the freedom of press and journalism. What do you think about it?
H'Hen: Well, that's a difficult question. However, I believe the freedom of press and journalism is important and essential since it helps us to be creative, and to be creative to write what we think.

She told ppl to pls don't criticize and attack translator and she told the same thing rite after wht happened with miss USA. She said Miss USA is a very good person and she says ppl think she and Miss USA are very similar that they are always fun and very cute, always help her wth English. Translator Hen said without her Hen wouldn't make it to top 5, esp in interview round that translator helped her alot. in lots of cases like this the Miss would just be silent as a sign of agreeing with the crowd to take the love to her but Hen always say don't attack anybody, this shows that shes an extremely compassionate person, we can all learn from her
