  • In this video I'll go over the steps I take in order to easily trailer my pontoon boat by myself. Most of the time I go out with just my little ones and they aren't quite old enough to be trusted helping my load and unload the boat. If you follow these directions when loading up onto the trailer it'll make it easy every time. Thanks for watching. By the way subscribing is totally FREE. Not sponsored by SunTracker we just love them.

    Thank you for this! We just bought a pontoon boat, I’ve put v-hulls on trailers before but man I was struggling with the pontoon! The first 3 times I was waist deep in the water trying to wrestle the boat over the trailer because I kept putting it too far in the water. After watching this, my wife who’s NEVER pulled a boat onto a trailer in her life was able to get it on the first try while I stayed dry!
    Thank you!

      There is no reason to trim the motor up on a pontoon boat. They sit way up on the trailer and don't need to be up.

    I have a party barge with a cabin and rear tent. Much windage. Ramp is steep. It is a bear to trailer if their is any wind from the side. The initial contact of the boat on the trailer is usually not enough to keep it from being blown sideways, even if I goose it onto the bunks. Boat is too heavy ( or underpowered) to scoot itself on the bunks. We have experimented with how much trailer we put in the water. We have recently kept throttle on while crew backs the trailer more under the boat. Or station a crew member( when available) on the ramp, with a rope hooked to very back of boat, on the windward side.

    I had a hard lesson. I learned to add a tie strap from the front eye connection down to the trailer. This prevents the front of the boat from bouncing going down the road. I had damage to the rear pontoon caps where the tie down points connect. The rear straps held strong and when the front of the boat bounced the rear tie points dented into the cap and cracked the welds. I recommend three points of tie down along with the wench connection.

    Nice video. I would add one more thing for safety. I would never allow the small kids in the vehicle until the vehicle and boat are well out and away from the water. If for some crazy reason the vehicle goes down in the water like I have seen in many videos, the kids go down with the vehicle and they might not make it out. Thanks for sharing. DD

      Better than leaving small kids to run around unsupervised at a busy ramp facility. You're not watching them. You're busy messing with your boat, trailer, and truck. The others there at that facility, equally distracted, don't want to be bothered.

    I know this is out of context, but just picked up my SunTracker Fishin' Barge pontoon boat yesterday and can't get the swivel chairs to actually swivel. They won't budge. Is there some trick to getting them to swivel?

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  2 роки тому

      There's a lever on the bottom. Make sure seat is all the way pushed down into socket. Sometimes the first time you swivel them can be a little tough but after that they'll spin easily. They only lock on the sides they have the channels in the seat pedestal. Hope it helps

      @@freshwaterfiend6268 .. Thanks for responding. Yeah, looking under the fishing chairs, I finally found that well recessed lever and did get the seats to swivel. It was a fight since the chairs don't swivel easily. I push on the lever, but the seats still don't want to move. Hopefully that will improve in time. If not, I'll resort to grease or something.

    So leaving the trailer that far out don't u have too use a lot of engine power to load it? Thts what keeps me from leaving it that far out. I was backing to far in tho but not pulling it out quite as far as you, but still not landing on bunks correctly 100% of the time .

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  3 роки тому +1

      It takes some power but not much. Just trim up and it'll slide right up. When you back down to far the back is still able to float so you'll miss the bunks some times. As long as you wet the bunks it doesn't take much throttle and the pontoons will fall right in the bunks.

    We have a similar bunk trailer and just trim the motor all the way down. It’s so high on the trailer no need for the transom saver if the motor is trimmed down. We just trim up for launch and retrieve. May save you a step.
