Hi Mike, just wanted to let you know your channel is an "auto watch" for me, u are not boring u are consistent at hitting it out of the park. Keep on trucking 😎🤠🍀
Same here.
Same here
Yes 10000% agreed.
There's nothing boring about your content. You've introduced me to so many good books. Reading has become a much bigger and richer part of my life since discovering your channel a few years ago. Please keep at it. ❤ 📖 📖 📖 ❤
Same. Just read red rising bc of Mike and now my entire family is reading it. Can’t wait to start golden son.
This is the channel! I know all those numbers will turn around as the hack fades from memory.
You are one of 3 channels for books that I basically watch everything you put out. I love your content and have been watching ti since I got back into reading last year.
Definitely here for all the content, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Horror or whatever else. I'm here to hear your good/bad/etc. for all kinds of books.
Mike, you are my favorite Booktuber hands down. When I'm reading I have a reading playlist of hundreds of your videos I have on in the background, it is perfect for reading. Thanks for all the great content Mike!
You are THE Booktuber for me, Mike. Never boring, and I buy way too many books you recommend, lol.
I appreciate your content, Mike. You maintain a relaxed tone without losing strength and edge. I prefer your longer reviews and I hope to see more in the future.
Books I completed in July (I never count audiobooks or short story books unless I have read them all within the same month):
*Four Past Midnight* by Stephen King - "The Sun Dog" was the worst King novella I've ever read 4/10. The book as a whole is a 6/10.
*Needful Things* by Stephen King - I've been wanting to read this book for a long time, and it somewhat disappointed me. I can give a real rant of the reasons why the book wasn't everything I wished for, what is ironic. 6.5/10.
*Treasure Island* by Robert Louis Stevenson - I read it to my son while we were sick. I found the book surprising in the sense that it deviated somewhat from certain clichés. Indeed, it is a good read for boys. 6.5/10.
*Snow Crash* by Neal Stephenson - This was my book of the month, and it truly deserves a long review. For a book that was supposed to be merely tongue-in-cheek, it is much more... 8/10
*Neuromancer* by William Gibson - For me, this book is proof of my belief that books should be read at least twice. The first time I read Neuromancer, I was disappointed, partly because of the hype that elevated the work to legendary status in my mind, which it didn’t live up to. I encountered the same difficulties as other readers who disliked the book when I first read it more than a decade ago, but the second time, it was a much easier and more pleasant experience. What was initially a 5/10 is now a 7/10 for me.
June was a difficult month for my family. Everyone got sick or suffered an accident, and I had a high fever for days, perhaps this affected my experience with Treasure Island and Four Past Midnight.
Your channel has been fantastic and getting even better since 2019 when I first watched your videos! Thanks for all you do for the community Mike, and for inspiring me to start my channel
Your channel and Steve Donoghue…..top of the food chain!!!!
Hi Mike. Love the channel. You are not boring at all! You have always been great at what you do here. You have reinvigorated my interest in reading and as a result have rekindled my interest in books. I've also been reading more to my kids. Currently, I'm reading book 3 of the Dresden files. I heard about this series from you! Keep doing what you are doing. The numbers will pick up. I really like your current format because I love horror and I don't have to wait for spooky season for you to share the horror content. I am interested to see if your numbers improve in October now that you are sharing more horror content throughout the year
. Keep your head up!
Mike. Had to break my TBR, but I just finished Ordinary Grace. Can’t wait to hear the gang’s thoughts in September. Wow…
You have NOT gotten monotonous! You have a fantastic channel. I will say, I haven't gotten any notifications for your channel since the hack. I have had start checking your channel.
Nothing boring with channel, I always watch your videos. However a lot going on now in life so I have a small backlog of videos to watch
Hello Mike from UK,
Great channel my friend, great content, never boring, and as dubmoore575 stated I rec all updates automatically, and I really look forward to just unwinding at the end of the day with a brew or a drink, and its just like relaxing with a good friend,
Many Thanks from Jrnyman🥃
Glad you got through the month of mid books. July will be better! Who knows why some months jump up or down. Could be impressions were down with all the unsubs from the hack. A wise booktuber told me "peaks and valleys.. it's all peaks and valleys". You are still the best in the biz.
I love your channel Mike and I’m sure you’ll carry on smashing it and your numbers will improve!!!!
You’re not getting boring Mike, still loving your channel. I saw you’ll be reading Ordinary Grace for your next Quilluminati, and someone kindly put in the chat that this is currently free on Audible Plus, so I’ve been listening to it and really enjoying it (2 hours left to go). I do think you’ll enjoy it.
Hey Mike, we love your channel. I would recommend new video ideas that are out of your comfort zone. Maybe add some more life vlog /gaming/ reading videos. We love you and want to keep you going.
Just picked up Son of The Black Sword and I'm really liking it so far. I've tried to read Best Served Cold all year but I can't seem to read more than a chapter or two at a time before I get bored. I read the first three First Law books in a couple weeks and it's taken me about 5 months to read 30% of Best Served Cold so I think I might officially DNF it and start The Heroes since people said I would like that more. I don't typically like revenge stories, I thought Abercrombie may make it interesting, but that hasn't been the case.
Morning Star by Pierce Brown🙌🏽 Definitely my BOTM for June
My fav book for June was The Blue Star by Tony Earley. I highly recommend Jim the Boy by him followed by The Blue Star.....coming of age in the late 1920s thru early 1940s.
I'm binging your videos today to help that nefarious algorithm, new and repeat videos :)
Also LOVE the videos with your wife, she's fricken awesome!
Glad you like them!
@@mikesbookreviews Watching the newest one now, trying not to leave you guys 15 comments haha :)
I think the multi genre reading will help you out. It might get more eyes on the channel. Someone who mainly reads horror may hop over and be intrigued by a fantasy book you talk about.
This whole year has been a bit mid for me so far. Mind you, I have read some great books but I am surprised at how few books I have read where I remember vividly thinking “this is a book of the year contender.” I am planning on changing my strategy a bit and just recklessly going for those books that have been staring at me forever which I think might do the trick. I did however read my first Yoshikawa book this month (The Take if the Heike) and I have subsequently purchased almost all the rest of his catalog that’s available in English. I think Shogun fans may really enjoy his work. I think that is my book of the month.
Happy Reading!
Reading A Fools Hope. We Are The Dead took over my life for a few days.
Hi Mike, I've been watching some of your vids for a year or so but when you said a few days ago that you'd been hacked and lost so many subs, that was when I subbed to give you a boost. Your stuff is always good and I hope you pick up after the hack.
Man. I read 10 books in June! I had to go on goodreads and look it up. I read Fahrenheit 451, Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky, the 4th Dungeon Crawler Carl book, House of Open Wounds by Tchaikovsky, Death's End by Cixin Liu, The Lesser Devil by Christopher Ruocchio, the 3rd Blackwater story, Outland by Dennis Taylor (who wrote the Bobiverse), and Once Upon a time in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino. Oh, and another book called Hang the Moon. I don't know which is the best. I love the Blackwater Saga and Dungeon Crawler Carl and The Lesser Devil. I was disappointed by Fahrenheit 451.
Keep up this reading format. I think it's perfect! I'd like to recommend the following:
1. Science fiction: "Exhalation" and "Stories of Your Life and Others" by Ted Chiang. They are both excellent short story collections that you'll probably like.
2. Magical realism/adventure: Life of Pi by Yann Martel
My book of the month for June is one I'm not even halfway through reading yet, Snow Shadow by Andre Norton. It is one of her Romantic Suspense novels, but it reads like early episodes of the original Dark Shadows (no paranormal , though). This book came in a lot of 32 Andre Norton books that I snapped up on eBay without looking too closely at what was offered, and that lot was part of a 72 book order. I need more shelves! 😁
You have an impeccable taste in shirts, sir. And I'm not just saying that because I also have most of the ones I see in your videos 😅
I sent him that shirt it makes me happy that he wears it lol
I really appreciate you! The fact that you're open minded an unbiased when reading Stephen King, even though you disagree with him ideologically sometimes, but that sense of fairness goes a long way.
Mike remember. You’ve been around 5 years on You Tube. That’s about 35 in content creator years. Over 100,000 subscribers can’t be wrong.
Happy yall are doing the media reviews again. Unfortunately I havent started HoD yet so I'm waiting to check them out until after. Also excited to see ya started Peaky Blinders. I'm quite curious as to how youll feel about those rose thorn books after. I loved The Bear and think the wife and you would def enjoy a binge of that as well one day.
I read 7 books in May and they were all good but not great. Thus Come With Me was the best of the lot for me as well. I'm hoping that July has some bangers for me.
I’ve been a fan and automatically watch your content since you started in 2019. Love the channel. Have you ever ready Spider Robinson Callahan series? It’s so good. Very smart & funny sci fi. They’re great palate cleaners. 🤘
Great work, Mike! Keep rocking, love the content and you are never boring!
Not boring at all. Your channel encourages me (and a lot of others) to keep on reading. I commend you for trying new books. Probably tough to make content on books you didn't love... Thanks for all the time and effort.
You got me highly interested in swan song by Robert mccammon... and now because of you I finally found it and started it last night and already loving it. I think I'm gonna take advice on you from now on with books lol
Appreciate the honesty!
Great video as always.
Mike for more horror how about The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson! Also Buehlman’s the Lesser Dead? Joey Peacock is the only vampire I ever want to know.
I love your videos! You’ll always have my view.
Small Town Horror by Ronald Malfi was good. So was the short story Glitch by Hugh Howie.
Sorry that the month was a bit of a let-down. Hope things pick back up in July. Happy Reading! 😎📚👍
Love your content!!!
“Hey Mike, have you read any of Josh Malerman’s books?”
I’m sorry to hear the channel took a beating after the hack! I know nothing about making this content, all I can share is what I consume, and I’d love to see more author interviews! I know that’s tough to manage and create all the time, but I know that’s something I’d watch every single time. Larry Correia, perhaps?
I just finished Blackwater and loved it! Got three more McDowell books coming in. Thank you so much for getting me into Blackwater. Who was your favorite character by the end?
I also read The Martian which was amazing. It had me cheering so much. And I've got a Malfi book coming in, just on a whim from your review of Come with Me. But I'm getting black mouth
A little over halfway through Come With Me, and while its definitely a loss less "horror" than Black Mouth and Small Town Horror, I feel like the tone and writing is still in such a similar vein to King that its still a book that King fans will really love. Excited to have everything unravel.
Comment for the algorithm 🎉🎉
June was kind of “mid” for me too, but here’s hoping July rocks!
People shouldn't feel bad about not liking a book or making excuses about it. People has different taste. I read Wool around the time it came out and didn't like it. It took some time before a lead character showed up.
Haven't had a good reading month since April. It's been a while.🤭
Hey Mike. I had loved quite a few of your shirts. Where do you get your shirts?
Bring on the Monthly Wrap Up...NOW!!!!
My June Book would be Eden Mine. Surprising as I came to it through an educators' seminar. It was an easy and enjoyable read about complex issues like fault v. problem, blame, forgiveness, authority and terrorism.
Sounds interesting. NOW READ FIRST LAW.
Ordinary Grace was really good, I think you'll enjoy it. Maybe not 'book of the year' status, but still should be a great time
I’m in the same boat with horror. I can’t find anything truly scary. If I do I’ll let ya know!
Just like you I kinda got burn out on reading big Chunky books So I gone to Anything under 400 pages And that allow me to read 15 books in the month of June . Goals for July to finish demon in white And the demon awakens. Also wanna checkout Carrie by Stephen king I've never read that 1
Sometimes you do need a break from your preferred genre.
In June I read:
«A Princess of Mars» (John Carter of Mars/Barsoom #1) by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Sword & Planet: I received a library copy from 1920, the British 4th Edition, 104 years old!)
«All Tomorrow’s Parties» by William Gibson (Cyberpunk)
«The Dragonbone Chair» (Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, #1) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, a key influence for George R. R. Martin's « A Song of Ice and Fire»)
«A Brightness Long Ago» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by the Mercenary Wars of Renaissance Italy: Book of the Month AND Book of the Year so far!)
«The Darkness That Comes Before» (The Prince of Nothing #1) by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy inspired by the Crusades, Silmarillion & Dune)
Have you done a good vid on where you would start for new reader Stephen king I watch red fury very but love hear your views get vid really enjoyed
Red Rising is the answer to your question
Mike did you read Disquiet gods?
I probably shouldn't have bought all that crypto when you got hijacked. Should have invested it into some 1st edition King novels.
Comment for algorithm
Stop reading bad books!! Start reading R Scott Bakker. You’re welcome
Stay tuned, homie.
