Šejn = Shane. Shane is a western movie from 1953 that inspired them to write this song
actually its based on a comic even though there was a western as well, this was answered by Rundek himself

I think they don't mean "edge" but actual "frontier" as in "space, the last frontier" because settlers were ever pushing the fontier towards the west until they reached the pacific ocean.
Composer Darko Rundek always wanted to make theater music. I read somewhere that the song was originally written for the play "The Days of the Turbins" by Bulgakov. What seems to us like the Wild West is actually the vastness of Russia. The prairie is the Russian Steppe, the new horizons are Siberia and the Far East. I always imagine the comic "Corto Maltese In Siberia".
