If you approach this album as a traditional heavy metal, instead of doom, it sound pretty good.
If it weren't for the new Ulcerate masterpiece of an album, Crypt Sermon 'The Stygian Rose' would be my AOTY so far; easily a 4,5 out of 5 album for me.. 👌

Jon Oliva anybody? This is a super strong release. And reminding one of Jon (vocals) as well as Savatage (music and sound) certainly isn't a negative thing.

this is a great record not doom sounds a little like early Metal Church vocals like David Wayne… classic Heavy Obscure Metal

The logo looks like the band is called Grunt Sermon, and that's how I've been calling them ever since I noticed. Ruins was a great album, can't wait to hear this one.
The music kind of reminds me of Candlemass , Below , King Diamond , and Hexenhaus etc... Great drums and guitar riffage for sure. Some of it drags in parts and the singer has a ok /good voice overall but some parts not so much imo. Solid release !

Great album
My 2nd favorite album of the year about Judas Priest. The title track The Stygian Rose is such an epic song to end the album on.
This album is good but their debut is still their best imo. I prefer his vocals on the debut, they were more Robert Lowe esque!
This is definitely my favorite album of the year so far. It came out of nowhere for me. I was figuring the new Knocked Loose or Pallbearer would take the cake, but nope.
Funny you mention Candlemass vocalists - the CS singer is actually very close to one time CMass / Solitude Aeturnus throat Robert Lowe in his delivery

It's good album, I liked it, although I prefer 'Ruins' much more. And it sounds kind of commercial compared to it, tbh.

Kinda sad there's been no mention or review of 200 Stab Wounds' new album that came out today, Manual Manic Procedures. Groovy death metal that's catchy and has actual hardcore influence
