Pure love until I saw the 40K/year tuition
Ikr? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
hahaha, nice
2018
Now is 70K /year 😭
It's a terrible way to get art experience in the internet age imo. So many outlets exist now and commissioning is on the rise.
Yep. Art schools are great for meeting people but do NOT destroy your financial future before you even get off the ground
Imagine being an introvert in this school
Man, I hope to be in CalArts before 2022. It'll be difficult cuz I live in Colombia and It needs a lot of money, but i'm disposed to give all my effort to get in.
Also from Latinoamerica here, pretty scared about money and corona in the same time
How are you brother
Did you get in ?
My dream is to go there and have at least 1 super good friend who I work with everyday on animation and we bond really hard and move foward together. I feel like that's a perfect scenario for me. Or multiple people, I feel like I can make great strides with someone else motivating me and me motivating them with the same amount of passion and idea
I decided last year that i wanted to work for pixar. i didn't know when, i didn't know how. i just wanted so badly. and i decided that i would work hard for it. i already had a plan: i will study for my enem (brazilian SAT) and study cinema, because it's the closest we have for it. then, i would get a job while i'm studying so when i finish uni i will apply to Vancouver Film School and try my luck. but my ex-english teacher told me about CalArts and how this is the perfect place, and now... i mean, guys, this is where John Lasseter studied. you know, the guy who BUILD the company i want to WORK along with Steve Jobs and Edwin Catmull??? and, Brad Bird? if you don't know, he made The Iron Giant (a.k.a my favorite animation movie EVER) and The Incredibles (a.k.a my favorite pixar movie) !!!!! and so many other people like Pete Docter. dude, i saw this guy on tv holding an Oscar. i'll confess i didn't know who he was but when i saw his face on CalArts ex-students i told myself "i saw this guy on Oscars. i liked his photos on pixar's instagram account. he was holding a fucking Oscar. omg" i mean ??????? but idk now... this place looks so perfect it terrifies me... it's full of extraordinary people, so many talent, so many bright minds, so many EVERYTHING. i can't help myself but be afraid. i live in brazil and, not saying that i'm fucked up or something, but the reality i live is far away from what i just saw in this video. i never really tought about studying abroad, in America... and i decided to do this in such a short time... i'll graduate school this year and i will be free to do whatever i want to do in life and that's scary as hell... i mean, i still want to work for pixar and, i won't lie to you, get into CalArts is a dream come true. but the real thing is, i don't even draw. i mean, i do some things, i like to draw cats and they are unique and so well know for anyone who knows me that it's like a symbol of my own, like "carol was here". i thinks thats good. but i'm not as good as those guys, i mean c'mon D: i'm not even close... my sister is the family's artist, she's a designer and she can draw people's faces!!! i don't!! my mother always says that's the difference between us, because she's the perfectionist but my drawings are funny and alive and they "want to say something". i believe in her but sometimes i feel like she's just being kind to me. idk. i can't even tell you why i'm writing this, but i guess it was something stuck my throat for so long and i couldn't say because nobody here can understand. and by "not understanding" i'm not trying to act emo, people literally doesn't know what's an animator/technical artist/concept art or anything involving animation in general. it's not a common area in brazil. if you know math you're a genius if you want to work with art LOL you're a goddamn pothead and you're gonna sell your "art" on the beach and will (probably) starve to death. i'm not kidding, that's the exactly terms they use to refer to anything they don't consider "job that pays good". anyway. i wanted to say it. i did. i'm better now. if you read thank you. for those who don't i don't blame you, but you wouldn't know this.. i'm just gonna drink some water and chill. bye.
Hi! thanks for writing this comment. It gave me some more perspective I guess
Idk if you'll get any notifications from this feedback, but it wasn't clear for me.. did you say you already got in CalArts or you still want to apply
If you did so, would you mind sharing some basic stuff that you need to be careful at?
Thank you! and sorry for the lack of English
i didn't. i wish, but i didn't.
Carolis ´ oh
so you still want to apply?
....actually no. i'm okay now. i found another great university in england called bournemouth and i want to join there as soon as possible. i don't think i would ever fit in calarts.
Carolis ´ Thanks for the reply
Also CalArts would be very expensive
DREAM SCHOOL
It is heaven
*Looks at tuition fee
"Maybe I'll pass on this one."
45,000 per year? Almost $1,000 per week! I am SO excited... I can't WAIT to start waiting tables immediately after graduation!! 200 grand in the hole for an unemployable degree? Don't worry.. It'll be fine..Follow your heart.. heh heh heh
Lol most of the people in this school get jobs high in the art world, especially in the animation department. Those people go to disney, pixar, etc., and some of them don't even finish college; they get internships at those companies and just never come back. The old adage of the starving artist is true, but not as much these days. There's thousands of high paying job opportunities in the market
Charles Telerant oh shit.
Lisa Wang I have to work my ass off then
Lisa Wang Hey! Do you know about this school’s Film Directing programme? Is that just a good as the Animation programme, in terms of quality and opportunities?
I JUST RECEIVED THE PHONE CALL OF MY ACCEPTANCE FROM THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE!
Woah great work! That's awesome :D
JazzaTV Thanks. :)
TheOfficialHeal your so lucky. I really want to go to.This school I'm 15 I draw but not as well as some of the people there. I don't know how to blend colors, shade, there's no one to teach me.....any advice?
Calarts is home to some of the most honest artists there are, but ones that still need polishing.
You don't have to be the best; you just have to be passionate.
congrats!
I remember coming home from work in Feb 1979. I lived in Racine WI.and worked at a lumber yard. It was very cold and grey and much snow. I worked outside all day long everyday. I had applied to the acting Master's program. My mom handed me my mail which included a letter from Cal-Arts. It was very thick which I immediately realized was an acceptance not a single page rejection. I became a human pogo stick jumping up and down. The education I received there was truly outstanding. It has enriched my life immeasurably. Cal-Arts is one of the best things ever to happen to me.
It's soo expensive now. It's cheaper to go to Harvard than it is to go Calarts and the stuff they teach you there can be learned from UA-cam videos now.
@@timtam3730 I hear ya Tim. It was $5800 a year back then.
@@shhotput My dad, who studied graphic design told me that's it's smarter to just study business and take online art courses instead, so I know how to do art but I also know how to make a living, which could involve selling my art/ skills.
So now I study Business at our community collage while I work at an Art Supply Warehouse where I can work on my art during my freetime and I take my online art classes at night. It's time consuming but it's cost effective and I won't have a ton of student dept.
@@timtam3730 Your dad is smart. It's obscene what art school costs today. I totally agree that everything you need to learn about graphic design and art in general is free on UA-cam. I graduated from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1979. I now teach oil painting and figure drawing to adults at a local art museum. MIAD was $1500 a year back then. What I will say, however, is that you get what I call "cross pollination" in a class room setting. I learned as much from my classmates as I did from instructors.
@@shhotput Thanks. I was thinking of taking some painting classes when this whole pandemic thing blows over.
You are right...CalArts is a dream school. I experienced it, lots of work and long hours, immersed in art. After hours and hours of deep commitment...I miss it! If you get the opportunity to study here - enjoy every minute - you won't regret it!!
Man I wanna go here so badly. I've actually taken an online program with them and am traveling across the Atlantic ocean to get a tour. The earliest I can apply is 2019 so I'm preparing pretty darn early!
Did they accepted you?

Currently in Uni now, but I would love to go here to learn SO MUCH MORE! Defo going to build up my portfolio!!
Ever since the age of 3, my endeavor has been to become a professional animator/cartoonist/artist. everyday I study and I practice to better myself.
Every waking moment of my day is dedicated to art, this is the endeavor i have always pursued. truly, I could never exactly imagine myself doing anything else in the future, that is why am hoping to god that i get accepted in this school around 2016, this is my main objective. Looks like a great school, may be the kickstart to my career in Burbank.
Im gonna try to join for 2017. This is my dream school and nothing will stop me from achieving my dream. I will make sure I rise to the ranks. Man I gotta get started on my portfolio.

I wanna try to join for 2019 when i will graduate my college. It is my big dream and I hope it will come true.
I'm armenian but now I'm living in Russia. So it will be hard :D

Greatest moment on video in the history of the world:. At 2:37 the talking head says "People definitely in the greater world take very seriously", video cuts to a performance piece of people in spacesuits. Classic.
OMG... I am so excited for apply!!!
I love the environment. Interesting and unique people. From what I'm watching. I dream to go one day.
I love these people. I feel so happy because people accept the weirdness rather than making fun of it.
I actually got voted most unique in High School.
I've always been interested in pursuing a career in animation since kindergarten. Dating way back to watching Hannah Barbara re-runs on Cartoon Network. Before they got original programming.
did you ever manage to get in?
I gotta get started on a sketchbook and portfolio for whenever applications start for maybe a spring or fall 2016 semester.
Dream school. If I had money to go, I'd be there as soon as possible!!!

Zauliqe Erick Alvarez I was inspired by Alex Hirsch, Pendleton Ward, and the people who animated Toy Story.

I cant wait to study dance here this fall!
some perspective, the average acceptance rate is 30%. but for character animation, the acceptance rate is about 8-10%. they get about 500 applicants, but only let 30-40 people in.
Thank you for letting me me know hopefully the acceptance rate for acting or just that area is higher in a few years I'm 13
My dream is to become an aspiring actor. I feel it in my gut that I can do it. Il be seeing you guys in 2018 after I graduate.

DREAM SCHOOL , Cureently trying to create my sketchbook
Decided, I want to be in calarts, but I have some questions, if you fail in the auditions, can you re-audition? Calarts is a boarding school? Can you work at the same time that you study Calarts?
Hi Terra, I suggest you contact our Admissions Office to answer your questions. But to clarify one, CalArts is a private college. We do have on-campus housing. Please reach out to admissions@calarts.edu or 800.545.ARTS (800.545.2787). Thank you, Christine
*Is it true that clothing is optional at CalArts College?*

@@calartsadmissions2832 Hey umm so I was wondering what kind of things you look for in acting or just anything around that I'm 13 but I really want to go here and also is there double majors at this school?
@@danicantrell8328 Hi there! We recommend you first check out the audition requirements for the acting program. You can find that information by following this link: calarts.edu/admissions/portfolio-audition-requirements/theater/acting
And should you have additional questions, feel free to email us at admissions@calarts.edu!
from 1 to 10, how hard is it to get into calarts?
There's only around 1,000 students.
This is my dream school I know it, Alex my senpi I'm here
holy shiz!! was it hard getting in?, what are you studying? and most importantly: are you happy there? :)
Noah fence but I couldn’t imagine ever going to this school for anything other than animation. Imagine paying 40,000 a year to dance around with art kids and shit
the pric eis a huge turn off for me too
you could try for merit scholarship and loans. grabbing jobs and saving up can also help a ton! persevering can also benefit you.
I wanna go to CalArts and get a master's in experimental animation.
Good luck paying bills.
What if you're somewhat antisocial, Will this be a good school for me?
what's going on at 3:55. . .??

I'm turning 18 this Aug . I'm currently taking BSEMC major in Digital animation , Incoming 2nd year . I really want to study in CalArts to enhance my skills and of course to get a good job . My dream is to work on famous production companies such as dreamWorks and pixar , CalArts is the key for me to get a higher chance on getting employed in those companies . Based on my research for top schools where disney and other production get their employees , CalArts is one of those schools . BTW I am from Philippines so it's going to be difficult for me , . My problem is the tuition fee is really expensive it cost about $40k if I'm not mistaken about P2M in our currency . I just want to know if CalArts give full scholarship? or any alternatives ? please give me some tips and advice . thankyou :(
Take my money!!!
See you in 2021
AwesomeGuy2000 Same
Me encantaria ir pero soy de mexico
Y con mi economia no puedo
Dude same
I FRICKIN GO HERE
Do you like it and what are you studying?
This is my dream, I will look at my comment like six years later and smile, i will be there...
Love calarts but the tuition is way too much, one year there is 4 years full at Sheridan's program which is considered the Harvard of animation. Not looking to study abroad especially in the U.S. I live close to Sheridan and would much prefer go there
Why do I live in japan? T-T
To whoever runs this UA-cam channel at calarts, I will be applying in 2022☺
+Emily Rainbow plan on doing the same :)
I will try to apply to 2020.But I am from Costa Rica (centroamerica) so I dont know if I would be able ...😞
@Cobb If it's something you want and a place you really want to further your creative skills you will get their if you focus and work hard !! Don't give up due to expenses... The greatest dreams achieved are the ones that people have worked hard for! YOU GOT THIS !!
Some day...
Someday ;c
if i had money...
any luck?
I'm 11 I want to go to calarts
Go for it! Don't listen to the naysayers or the people who don't believe in you because with hard work and determination you can do it. Don't worry about people believing in you, you have to believe in yourself first.
- A 15 who just realized this after years of having her dream put down
lionthieves I love to draw but how can I ever get as good as some of these people are.........They blend colors well and I don't know how to
DesignzRUs1 I know how you feel. What materials are you using?
lionthieves just paper, pencils and colored pencils. I want to be a cartoonist, just like Rebecca Sugar. I've been drawing since I was 9 years old. But I can't even shade or blend colors well. I have an awesome cartoon idea but I don't think I'll be good enough to go to Calarts :(
DesignzRUs1 Ahh, so you like SU too then? Idk what brand of colored pencils you use, but that could be apart of the problem. Prismacolor is the best from what I here, but I don't use colored pencils often. They don't blend well in general. You could try charcoal, paint, or Copic markers instead, they are much easier to blend with. Sometimes it's good to have texture too though. I prefer digital art myself and use various brushes to add texture, all of which blend differently. There's lots of UA-cam channels with more tips as well, I suggest you check 'em out.
One more thing - as totally amazing as it would be to go to CalArts, Sugar didn't even go there! She went to SVA in NYC.
