Every time I hear this song, I immediately think of NYC, and Fantasia 2000 did a beautiful job of capturing the spirit of musicality of NYC in their segment. My all-time favorite piece from Fantasia 2000!
Rhapsody in Blue is still my favorite song of my life! As a classically trained pianist, I was inspired by this piece because of Fantasia 2000 and from that time on, I wanted to practice that piece until I got my dream come true at a high school recital. I deeply thank Gershwin for sending me this beautifully grand song!
My mom,Rosalee, is 83 now and she just loves this masterpiece !:) 🩵i will be 51 in February 💜 and I have grown to love it as well👏love your show ...one of our family's favorite show🌞much love from Missouri ✌️💙🤩
I had an MRI and had my choice of music. I chose Rhapsody In Blue. I didn't want my MRI to end. Since I knew when it would end I was ready for a repeat.
Yes, from our grandparents, to everyone in our family circles, we loved Rhapsody in Blue! It is a favourite classical piece played by our eldest sister, a professional pianist! ❤
5:15, so true. When I hear this song I think of NYC. For me it's the anthem of the city. Yes, it has its problems but there's so much to do and see. About eleven and a half minutes in when the strings and piano play I get emotional sometimes. Just imagining NYC, the hustle and bustle, how so many people from all over the world can be in once place but also have so much history in it's buildings and museums. I love that song and that city.
David Pogue and Michael Feinstein are the ideal pair for this canny glimpse of the centennial celebrations for this profoundly stirring masterpiece by George Gershwin. 👏🎶💙
I first fell in love with this in College, off my parents' Oscar Levant 78 recording and an L.P. of Leonard Bernstein playing and conducting it! Love it!
I have that Leonard Bernstein recording, too! I first heard it when I was a toddler, and didn't like it. But when I was in high school, a friend of mine was learning some Gershwin piano pieces, and I absolutely fell in love with Gershwin. I remembered my parents had that record, with Rhapsody in Blue on one side and An American in Paris on the other. I found it and listened to it, absolutely rapt. I couldn't help but wonder what the heck was wrong with me when I was three? Fifty-odd years later, I have tears in my eyes from hearing this beautiful music.
“An experiment in modern music”. Indeed, so many great contributions to our culture were exactly that: an experiment. And thank goodness people are willing to do just that.
I've always loved this piece ever since I was a little boy. I have a Stereophile version of it that is glorious in its sound quality. Having a very nice stereo system at this point in my life, when I give it a little volume, the power and majesty... and the feel of being a purely American piece of music really comes through. I loved this CBS Sunday Morning piece on it in that I learned quite a bit of its history as a piece of music and about Gershwin as a composer. Age 25 when he wrote this - in 2 weeks... unbelievable.
If the CT had been invented a few decades earlier, think of all the pain Gershwin would’ve been spared, and all the glorious pieces he might’ve written.
Other than Sinatra's New York, New York and Alicia Keys' Empire State of mind as a contemporary, there isn't a piece that symbolizes New York than Rhapsody In Blue.
Happy 100th birthday, Rhapsody in Blue. I’m sure George Gershwin is happily celebrating his masterpiece in heaven.
First experience the piece with Fantasia 2000. This is a masterpiece of the Jazz era.
Same here. It was a great way to discover it.

Thank God they acknowledged how most of us millennials got introduced to this musical composition, being Disney's Fantasia 2000.

Thank you for correcting the subtitle at the beginning. (It originally misidentified the clip as originating from the original 1940 Fantasia.)
Our pleasure!

Bravo! Great piece! [and the segment was pretty good too ;) ]
LOL!
Don’t forget Mayor Michelle Wu’s recent performance with the Boston Pops! 👍🏻

I remember hearing this during lunchtime in my elementary school cafeteria in the 60s. I still ❤️ it.
We create such beauty, we are capable of such great soul satisfying memories. Remember that on November 5th.
best song ever written. nothing else to be said
Thanks for sharing
Sunday morning CBS is so informative . I learned so much over the years
3:33
Wow, Elgar and Gershwin together in the same concert….
My favorite, all my life. Finally saw it live this year. My “home” song. Thanks to UA for introducing it to me.
The end of this segment was beautifully and masterfully edited, kudos.
“An experiment in modern music”. Indeed, so many great contributions to our culture were exactly that: an experiment. And thank goodness people are willing to do just that.
It is the creative Beach Boy Brian Wilson's favorite song. Growing up & listening to it, he was struck by the tempo changes.
I agree, when I hear it I think ‘New York City’ Such a beautiful piece.

To everyone’s interest in this great musical piece! Thanksvmuch! ❤🎉🙏👏😀
Love it!
UA-cam algorithm, thank you. I went searching for "Rhapsody in Blue" yesterday simply because I realized it was 100 and today this shows up.
This tune just so happens to be my all time favorite piece of classical music.
A timeless masterpiece.
I love it!
So many United DC10 cross country boardings, so many times I could have just sat back and enjoy the piece beginning to end.
Always a favorite for me. My grandmother encouraged my appreciation, but I'm certain that the United ads introduced me.
Best song ever.
Excellent - Bravo! 💯💥👍!
Sweet, one of my favorite pieces of music!
So strange that the concert ended with Pomp and Circumstance
Everyone got handed a diploma as they walked out
My Uncle Manny Starkey conducted the first performance in England at the London Palladium on 3rd April 1928.
i literally got introduced to rhapsody in blue through a stickman animation. My most favorite song ever, since that day.

I can think of very few, if any, more quintessential American songs than Rhapsody in Blue.
A singular piece of beauty.
An amazing a cappella homage is Ambience's version "Rhapsody of New York".
Bravo! Well produced story.!
1 of my FAVz 🎶🤤
One of my favorite pieces!
happy belated birthday to this classic
Great piece! Very insightful and positive!
From 1:03 min played Kyzylorda SIMPHONY (Kazakhstan) with Saiddin Baltabay (Austria).
Love this...
This didn't turn 100. Trump will tell us all in 2 weeks that he wrote it and half the country will eat it up.
I would like to thank you for this short news item on the subject of music. Such a beak from the usual news items.
Oh. *Blue*. Not *Bloom*.
Did Ira have musical talent or just words?
"Chapter one. "...

Unbelievable! 😮😳
The NYC city anthem.
Wonderful video!
Where or where can I hear the entire recreated Rhapsody In Blue concert done by the Avalanche Orchestra???
Beautiful.🌹💕🌺💄💥💥❤️
So, I have to wait another 100 years for "Rhapsody in Burnt Umber" to be recognized?
🎶💙 Beloved 💙🎶
Thanks for sharing! An amazing work! Shawn R., Mo-Mutt Music/Sacred & Secular
Very cool
Thank you
The United theme ✈️

We could boil the whole thing down to ten minutes and not lose a thing.
How could you not include "an American in Paris"......
never heard of this
I wonder when the EDM remix version is gonna' drop? ;-)
I geared up
