- Reload (IN YOUR WORKSPACE) when you want to, not when you have to. In life or death situations, EVERY second counts and the next round is ALWAYS the most important one you'll ever fire.

About Sheepdog Response:
Sheepdog Response was founded by Green Beret, Special Forces, Sniper, and former top 5 UFC Middleweight, Tim Kennedy. Tim was also the co-star of Hunting Hitler on the History Channel, and more recently, Hard To Kill, on the Discovery Channel.
People face threats of violence every day, ranging from large-scale terrorism to one-on-one assaults. Most people are unprepared, unequipped, and untrained to respond effectively. This weakness in the flock allows the wolves to attack with great ease and success.
The answer is not more laws. The wolves don’t follow them. We must give the good guys the tools they need to effectively respond to violence. The more Sheepdogs we can train to be truly ready to respond to a mass shooting, terrorist attack, violent mugging or home invasion, the better the chances are that the bad guys will get what they deserve and the good guys will survive. Most people sign up for martial arts or weapons training expecting to learn realistic self-defense, and few get it…
We have developed a curriculum that addresses the skills you need to successfully respond to threats
"THEN REGRETFULLY PUT MY GUN AWAYYYY, THAT'S SAAD!!!" 😂😂😂
my favorite quote of the week
“Ahh this is my least favorite part”
@ He wants to keep shooting lol
Tim is the man.. 🤣
I'm not a pro but there is no reason whatsoever a gun owner shouldn't know how to properly handle a firearm with all the free videos out there.
Good point.
Watching a UA-cam video is the easy part, getting out and doing the work is what most people are missing. That said, I hope all the new 2020 gun owners out there are putting in some quality training.
I lerned everyting I no on UA-cam
Everytime things get serious, Tim bless us with a good and helpful joke.
The “talk over” from the instructor in the back (right at the beginning of the video) is priceless - you have an instructor talking - and the “prof” in the back decides to not once but several times DROP interruption and potential confusion on a class of possible novices! Priceless! $800 a class gets you chatterbox McGee in the back who has an opinion to “override the guy at the podium”.
Exactly
They contradict themselves with the exercise.
So, you didn't sub?
No BS
No sugar candy coating
How it's meant to be taught!
Appreciated
I served with Travis in Afghanistan. He put together a pre ranger course for us over there. Solid dude.
He is exactly the kind of trainer I learn the most from! And out of all the Sheepdog videos this one is my favorite. I trained this drill yesterday with friends and I demonstrated it exactly how he did including "get sucked into outer space, I don"t give a shit"! hahahaha!
That guy got so heated talking about the 10 rounds from an AK47. I love it.
I want to know his name
Not arguing with the drill, but a good teacher they are not.
Robert Reynolds Tim Kennedy is pretty legit. The other dudes come off a bit try hard like to me but they clearly know they’re stuff.
guys with probably a lot of experience but not able to teach effectively....Its extremely hard to find guys with both attributes.
This is how things are taught on mil courses, get the point across to people who are sleep fucked or just no head on their shoulders. They're probably used to that style of teaching
Robert Reynolds
You wouldn’t know good teaching from your ass
I was thinking the same thing. He didn’t even know how to do the drill they are supposed to be teaching.
This is like talladega nights but guns instead of nascar.
they all described the drill differently
Some real groundbreaking stuff here. I’m sure the $500+ course to get yelled at while the instructors create straw man arguments was well worth it.
Landon Grover then don’t sign up. Where do you instruct?
@@FLmanAzonehit I won't sign up...and I instruct at a LE agency...so am I credible enough for ya?
@Lupus Venator
Love a good old fashioned shut down...! Random question for you on your screen name, does it mean “lead me”?
@@lupusvenator4701 Lets see a video of you teaching. You didnt sign up and you didn't pay $500 you are just here talking out of your ass. These guys probably have 1000x experience in gunfights than you will ever have. These courses are not for groundbreaking things they are for the things that keep you alive I would have thought you knew that since you are so credible. When you have 5 instructors that were on Delta force and have hundreds of DA raids and many hostage rescue missions I tend to trust them a little more than someone who won't even use their real name and then claim to be the shit.
Why are people hating on this. This is good stuff. Being an instructor is alright but it's not the end all be all. I'd rather have someone who's been in a fight teach me than someone who took a test to become an instructor. Tim has been in some fights!
I know EXACTLY where this gun range is. I used to live down the street in Henderson. I live outside KC for the last 6 years, but used to pass this place daily going to fly planes on the lakebed right around the corner. I wished I was still in Vegas after this. This place is way closer than Front Sight in Parhump where I used to train
I was 9 years old when i shot my first firearm. My dad had been in the military and failed to become a green barret but i had some awesome special forces guy's teach me proper gun handing. I never even put a round in the chamber until i learned the basics. Repetition Repetition. Seeing this reminds me of those great lessons learned on the range.
No disrespect. Just a question. Is this simulating something? I dont understand y we wud pick up the empty mag
to teach you how to pick up gear safely, and ready to engage a threat. The gear is irrelevant. Could be your vehicle keys, or a spare mag that someone just tossed you in a gun fight.
The drill is about keeping your weapon pointed toward the threat while picking something up off the ground.
Mag retention
Totally agree
They should teach you how to get your dropped mags out of evidence after the investigation. If I dumped a whole mag in a gun fight it’s gone until that fight is definitely over... and that’s gonna be after cleanup.
@@m3zza9 that's a very good explanation.
came back so I could be reminded what one second was in a gun fight... 😆😆
"SLOW is SMOOTH, SMOOTH is FAST!" - literally every Spec Ops Operator (Green Berets, Navy SEALs, Delta Force, and etc.)
First off, depending what weapon system you're utilizing, depends on the way you manipulate that weapon. When it comes to your sidearm (secondary) reloading becomes way more dynamic. Using the slide catch/slide stop can cause more malfunctions, simply because the energy just simply isn't there using the catch or slide stop. That's the reason it's more efficient to rack the slide back by hand. Any comments, please tell.
What do these guys know, just a bunch of SF nubs. 🙄
@@MattTigers not a fucking thing. We refer to it as our workspace for a very vital reason and these instructors contradict themselves so much. It's fucking mind-blowing that people would take these instructors seriously! Its almost insulting
True
@@Mr4bigshot4 how many rapists and murderers and terrorists have you killed? Oh zero? Ok, sounds like you have nothing to say
@@sa-amirel-hayeed699 Easy there bud! First you don't ask people shit like that! For another what would you know about operating anything, other than your mouth! I suggest stay in your own fucking lane and don't ask such dumbass questions! So you know this instructor is amazing for the most part. There's always room for improvement with any individual noatter what their background is.
That was awesome. I love their teaching style. Awee I wish i could be thete. 😊
About to buy a pistol tomorrow and the way I’ve been trained by the Marine Corps on the M16 makes me eager to actually be proficient in using a pistol. Held one for the first time and if it were an emergency I would have been dead because the lack of knowledge I had and confidence that isn’t yet established. Thank you for the video I’ll be sure to make this a habit!
That's awesome man so how did it go? And what pistol did you decide on?
“Deal death is massive quantities” yes
I guess over the top slide release is the only way for a lefty unless you have something like a gen5 glock with slide release on both sides.
I guess unless you train for strength in your index finger. I was wondering that as well!
Index finger works, support hand works too.
Wow. These guys really like their slide releases. That guy was passionate about it. Though racking the slide is not an entire second slower. Especially if you have someone with weak thumbs and a tiny stiff slide release. I’ve seen my gf spend 3-5 seconds trying to thumb the release on her glock and barley getting it but she can rack that slide in a fraction of a second. My CZ Shadow 2 slide release is towards the front of the oversized external safety making it hard to reach you thumb around it. Even if you do you’ve shifted your grip to get to it. I either have to off-hand thumb the release or do a quick slide rack. Besides all of that there are many pistols where you need to shift your grip to thumb the release. It’s is far worse to shift your grip than taking a tenth of a second longer to rack. I see their point and I agree in certain scenarios but them saying it’s always better to thumb the release regardless of the person and model of pistol they are using is just dumb.
I agree 100%
The only thing I've found to be correct 100% of the time is that nothing (else) is correct 100% of the time. Ironic, I know. There are always exceptions and contingencies, so prepare for them.
Great video but Pat Mac would be disappointed in the range theatrics
logan j haha! fake scan and assess
These poor people are paying a pretty penny for that fake scan and assess and range theatrics. SMH.
So true...lol
Nice to see the channel growing, it blows me away you don't have millions following.
We have *Tactical reload, speed reload and emergency / slide lock reload*
Witch is the most dangerous one?
Thanks again
Hey I know the third instructor, the rant about the slide release gave me a flashback to CMMS!
Thanks
What this vid is about?
I'm gonna re-quote a friend below, "to teach you how to pick up gear safely, and ready to engage a threat. The gear is irrelevant. Could be your vehicle keys, or a spare mag that someone just tossed you in a gun fight.
The drill is about keeping your weapon pointed toward the threat while picking something up off the ground"
contradiction is when you bring gun into your work space, point it into the air to see the magwell for a reload. Now the weapon ain't pointing toward the threat.
QUESTION EVERYTHING THEY SAY!
Nice. Thanks for the knowledge
Free training... I am all pen and paper!! GREAT VIDEO!
Thank you for getting this out for us 🇺🇸..and i was sad too Tim.
And when slide doesn’t lock back u do something different for 20% of the time.
LOVE THIS!!
Thank you.. 🤘🏽
Does Tim still think 18-20 year olds shouldn’t be allowed to own AR’s?
He was virtue signalling to a liberal.
When was this?
Great Channel.
Meh... While using the slide lock to reload is probably just fine, it does tend to incure more failures. That's why so many people were taught to charge the slide manually
EXACTLY! If you carry a Glock, your slide STOP will get a little groove worn in it and stop locking the slide all together after a few thousand rounds. If you only shoot 50-60 rounds, every couple months, then go for it. If you train regularly, it will fail pretty quickly. It's made of soft metal, and it's brought up in the Glock, armorer's course...
Exactly! Dude needs to relax a little.
Lupus Venator are there any after market slide stops that last longer than glocks?
mrq1701 it’s like jiu jitsu.... Gi? Or no Gi? Practice both to be truly proficient.
Lupus Venator no it won’t, stop telling bullshit lies you heard 2nd hand from your grandpa range instructor
What gun holster is Tim using? time stamp @5:41 for reference
Love it a real combat trainer not a contractor that went a place once teaching to use the gun the way it was made
A real combat operator..."trainer"...not so much. This is NOT the best way to teach tactics to anyone...especially civilians. And yes...I am an instructor. I have the WORST students in the world...U.S. law enforcement.
Lupus Venator lol yea sure bud your an instructor
This is a really sharp drill.
Every trainer has something to offer no matter if it’s martial arts training or gun training.Be student for life don’t be a fucking know it all absorb everything from everyone.
Best post on this thread!
Few problems..
1. Fine motor skills diminish, no one said they are absent. Using the mag release and trigger are fine motor skills. Unfortunately there are no other methods to remove the magazine or discharge the firearm. There is however another method for loading the gun, that is using the slide. Oddly enough, using the slide works on all semi autos, in any slide condition and mimics your Immediate Action drill. It also works for left handed shooters, right handed shooters, old, young, strong, weak, large hands, small hands, wet hands, bloody hands, muddy hands, sweaty hands.
2. The slide lock lever is NOT designed to be used on Glock pistols. A little research would reveal this information. The slide lock on a Glock pistol is intended to be used to manually lock the slide to the rear should it be necessary. Not to mention, slide locks are not universally located, nor are they easy to reach on all pistols, nor are they ambidextrous. The slide is absolutely universally located, easy to reach and works for left and right handed uses.
3. "1 second is 10 rounds from an AK47" Why are you engaging a rifle threat with a handgun?? Such a vague statement is neither useful nor realistic.
4. Press checks are stupid. If your magazine is seated(and you confirmed by tugging on it) then a round did indeed enter the chamber when the slide was released or racked. If press checking is so important, why doesn't anyone do it between shots? Why would you trust the firearm from the 2nd round to the last round without a press check, but when you aren't loading under stress you don't trust the gun and feel the need to press check??
sling shots are for mall ninjas with no training
A little research DOES reveal this information:
Gen 3 Glock 19 “Instructions For Use” manual, “Loading” section (page 13):
“If the slide is locked in the rearward position, either press the slide stop lever down to release the slide and return it to the fully forward position or grasp the rear of the slide at the serrations with your other hand and pull the slide fully back and then release it, allowing it to return to the fully forward position.”
Glock says you can use the slide stop lever. Knock of the regurgitated institutional inbreeding of range rumors. Research it yourself.
Daniel Buck Then that would be an individual training issue. In two decades I’ve never once gripped and ripped the slide, I’ve always used the slide stop lever. Never had an issue during any static range, dynamic range, qualification course, class, or force-on-force use. Repetition, repetition, repetition.
I guess you use the charging handle on an AR-15 since that’s a “gross motor skill” instead of pushing the bolt release since that is a “fine motor skill.”
@@chud1858 Yes dumbass, it says that.... Now. Original manuals did not, that was pre "Merica" popularity with the pistol.(no offense to my American friends)
The DOCTRINE and design CONCEPT for Glock pistols was based around NOT USING THE SLIDE STOP. Hence why it's so small and difficult to activate compared to other handguns.
Glock fully admits that the SLIDE LOCK may be used when necessary(think one handed) but it was in no way intended to be the primary means of loading the pistol.
I will ask this again. Does racking the slide work 100% of the time?? What about using the SLIDE LOCK??
@@225degrees Comment's a little old, but racking the slide doesn't work 100% either. I've personally missed racking the slide in FoF, a few times (never reloaded in a gunfight though). Your #1 point is your best one imo and why I generally favor racking over the slide stop. I don't fault people for using the slide stop though. It generally comes down to what contingencies you're willing to trade off. The rack works almost universally in universal conditions... but its slower. The slide stop is faster with YOUR gun in MOST all conditions.
Travis has the best delivery. I will forever remember “whatever stance you have...f#(k it, we’ll call this the ‘Trav Stance’”....proceeds to take awkward stance and key hole next 5 rounds
If someone has an AK and I'm using a handgun.... I'm already fucked up.
Gotta watch those mags getting sucked into a vacuum in outer space.
Why do you hold at a horizontal 45 degree angle at 33 seconds in an at 40 to 49 seconds because I'm finding myself more comfortable aiming in this position
What kidex holster is the instructor at the end using?
THAT IS 10 ROUNDS UNACCOUNTED FOR, COMING YOUR WAY THAT YOU HAVE NO ANSWER TO!!!
So what gun, caliber and great of gear do you recommend? So where are you teaching, how much and how do we sign up?
Fn Edge Series is probably recommended gear. Tim worked with FN designing it. Sheepdog Response website has the dates, location, and prices per class.
Did you ever buy a pistol and start training?
Tim Kennedy is the coolest fucking dude on the planet.
This is gold!
“… fuck it…(throws mag)”, sounds like half of my training days on the range! Lol 😂
Im a rookie but it looks like when that guy goes to pick that clip up it looks like he is baiting someone in to take a shot at him.
I hear that when your in shity bellow zero weather you lose feeling in your fingers and slide stop may not work for your reload soo much. So just go over the top. I'm not a SF guy just security in Chicago and man when it's cold it's cold. They train all CPD and security out here to go over the top. Maybe in warmer climates they teach you differently cause you may have those options. Any way awsome video. Just my 2 cents.
If your fingers are so cold you can't press the slide release/stop, they're probably too cold to drop the mag too.
Yea ! ! ! I mean try it when it's like super vortex frozen solid outside hit your garage and hang out a while doing drills and such. You will feel and appreciate the differences
Admittedly this is the first time I've seen/heard someone say openly to actually use the slide release as THE means to engage the slide.
Cool!
Any midwest or law enforcement/military classes coming up?
On the reload better to slide lock with main hand thumb or your support hand?
Depends on your hand size, what's easiest, and what works best for you. On some guns if you can hit it with your firing hand that's probably better and faster since you can send the slide home before your support hand is in place. On some guns the slide stop may be a far reach for some people (1911 for example) so you may have to use your support hand instead and maintain your grip with your firing hand.
The first 4 minutes of this video should have been cut. The rest is spot on.
Why would I press check in in the middle of a gun fight? If my slide locked back on empty, I slammed my loaded mag in properly, and racked the slide home, I am 100% sure my gun did it’s job and a round was seeded in the chamber. No need for a Press check while I’m in the middle of a bad situation.
Not only is a press check bad but looking down at your holster or your mag well is horrible. You’re suppose to be threat focused. If you can’t reload or holster your weapon without looking you need more practice.
They’re also recovering an empty mag in this scenario from the ground…
This video is a drill. Not live training.
4:47 Why is he yelling much? I'm pretty sure everyone took their ear pro off to listen, or they have electronic ear pro lol
Testosterone and not wanting some numb nut to shoot you accidentally because they didn't follow instructions because they didn't hear you.

What happen to looking for cover???
Those few seconds, or second, it takes to reload a gun, 10 AK rounds are heading my way. I'm not Superman or the Invinsible Man. I'm just dead.
SHOOT. RUN. COVER.
I think the argument was that everything being equal. You'll want the extra second the slide stop gives that racking does not.
Just think of it as a drill, one component to the overall “gunfight.” You can also use this technique from behind cover.
Those movements of searching left and right and over the shoulder look wierd.
Nothin but truth on this Fooking channel❤️🙏🤘🔥🇺🇸
I can't help but think how much that guy in the tight shirt, beanie, and camo pants looks like such a tool.
Good info, no need for the arrogance.
What if you are a lefty and have a 3rd gen glock or similar weapon with no slide stop on the right? The tap and rack is all we got without doing some stupid weapon manipulation that causes us to do something that takes the gun out of a good firing grip and our eyes off the target to complete. Yell all you want but if you cant teach users of both sides of the gun im out!
This drill is way cool
I don’t want 10 rounds of AK fire comin my way meanwhile I’m chubby and gonna die of coronary heart disease
IRON1 : Saw that too did ya...?
When he started yelling about 10 AK rounds coming towards you I knew the type of guys that come to these trainings just like to feel like theyre training to be operators and they know it too. Not saying what theyre teaching isnt important. I just don't need to fluff myself thinking I'm training more for ar civil war than self defense and weapons handling competency.
You don't Cosplay much?
They kept contradicting each other, adding workspace steps, mag pouch identification, and then press checks and holster identification. And sorry not sorry, training to run the slide works with ALL pistols. Not ALL pistols have a slide "release". The fucken instructor called a a "slide stop assembly". I would've walked.
Yea cuz these Green Berets who’ve ran hundreds of combat missions have no clue wtf they’re talking about, right?
I agree 100%. Its all common sense...i would have walked too...
“Dumb and Dangerous”...I love it I need to take one of your courses!
Bad safety violation. Ask me why? In the first 10 seconds you can see a person standing in front of the the instructor. Never stand in front of the 180 degree line. Instructor should have been aware of this violation.
ugh, shut up.
Ive been seeing a lot of negative comments of how bad of instructor's they are.. whats your take guys?
People are fucken goofballs... these guys are great teachers imo. Just gotta pay attn and retain as much as you can. They speak loud and clear! Perfect!
They are so amped up that they are explaining the drill 3 different ways!
IS NO ONE IN THE WORLD GONNA MENTION THIS IS JUST WIL WILLIS IN DEEP UNDERAGENT COVER
I know they know their shit & I have a huge amount of respect for T.Kennedy .. but Kennedy literally contradicts himself with "what's another second to tap & wrack if you hit the slide release early" then goes on to say "what's a second in a gunfight ?" "An eternity" .. I've taken a few fighting pistol classes & have been trained both ways . The best instructions I have gotten were during my sheriff's department 5wk firearms training when it came to this ..the instructors told us "do what you feel is best for you" .. me personally I get back in the fight by going hand over slide though sometimes I practice using the slide release method just to remember what it feels like to have that "oh shit" moment when the gun goes "click" & not "bang" & I need to tap, wrack,& work .. I understand the argument for both but I will stick with what works for me ... LE instructors are now teaching that the mag being replaced during a combat reload gets stowed (pocket, between your inner belt & tummy, wherever the fuck, etc.) & does not fall to the ground .. you keepthe muzzle pointed down range while stowing said mag because if done right you have at least one round to stay in the fight if things go bad before you get the full mag in .. I absolutely & completely agree with the fact that you can absolutely use fine motor skills in shtf situations .. I use my thumb during an AR reload instead of the slap & that's supposedly a "fine motor skill"
Why is every instructor so angry?
If you need to pay to figure this out, hopefully you don't drive.
Why do people in the internet say he's against the second amendment???? I'm totally serious? I've heard that yet I don't see it.
Because people mix up his words and jump to conclusions. Go to Sheepdog HQ and take classes, see the gun store and get on the mat for a fight class. You see for yourself.
That is A way to gun fight.
Not sure if this is a joke 🤔🇺🇸
Im apparently a horrable person because I still think its better for most people to be trained to rack the slide by going over the top. Also if your using you non dominant hand it becomes troublesome to hit the slide release with the left hand. Narrowmindedness on behalf of the instructor. But he said it so confidently like a televangelist preacher asking for money.
10 rounds in 1 second? Damn.
To few?
One second is ten burgers.
For that guy...
6:25 is my least favorite part too. Shits over after that.
Not that im anyone but that scan with the head is pointless surely.
Its just to help train you break your tunnel vision and look for the next bad guy.
HOOCH D 😏 totally 2 different things but....

Fucking Tim Kennedy 🤟
I may Sub, cuz the xomments are so fjukin entertaining from the guys with weak small hands that can't release a slide with their thumbs and prefer the Cosplay instaGlam move of Racking the slide they saw in a video game.
“Run the gun the way it was designed”! Except it wasn’t designed to be ran that way. It’s called a slide stop for a reason. The lever is there to lock the slide to the rear manually. Using the slide stop as a slide release is faster, unless you fucking up. Which more likely in a gun fight. Running the slide is a sure way to get back in the gun fight every time.
I don't know about that. I've never been in a gunfight, but the time it takes for me to rack the slide vs using the slide stop is pretty significant.
Mind and Body good my brother, get that gun back in the fight. I’m just not going to take that risk of when it goes wrong it will go wrong in a gun fight.
Exactly...even glock calls the part a "slide stop lever"...
👍👍👍👍👍
Cool stuff but not one single instructor or anyone in the class has shot their gun at a bad guy as a civilian in the civilian world.
im a combat vet well trained 15 years... im so over these fucking guys with cool beards making simple shit seem like they invented the wheel.
When they yelled threat and he immediately was back on target. THAT was sexy
#dang
Why does loudmouth do a press check, after letting the slide slam shut? It defeats the purpose of letting the damm slide slam shut!
Not really. Things happen so there are times where a press check is beneficial. Just because the gun went into battery doesn't mean that it stripped a round from the mag. Afterward you can tap the back of the slide to ensure the gun went back into battery(Travis Haley may have covered that technique back in the Magpul days.)
Soooo as an armorer and small arms instructor.... is it a slide STOP assembly ie locking the slide to the rear upon empty magazine OR now hear me out here a slide RELEASE assembly? Um its designed function on the weapon is in its name. The weapon was NOT designed to be manipulated that way, go to a Glock armorer course or any factory course and youd know that. Now is it faster yup sure is when it done right and you dont get a dead mans gun, manipulation of the slide with your off hand when done correctly is WAY WAY less than a second slower AND fail proof. Just food for thought get with a school who teaches grabbing the slide, say Mid-South and I guarantee every single one of them will outshoot you doing the slide manipulation technique, and you will prolly learn a few things
100% agree with you...i took the glock armor course back in 2001 feb and that is what glock teaches...and I've been an instructor for that many years too...
less than 1/2 a second? so thats 5 rounds from an AK coming at ya?
Jesus christ. I thought he was going to start bending people over his knee. That's a good course.
