- Gee, this took a while to complete! Undoubtedly, I am new to the realm of stop-motion and particularly claymation despite having dabbled in it a few times over the years. But, I figured with isolation, I'd grapple with the concept of making a music video, and because this was during winter (mostly) I couldn't really do much in the way of a live-action one. So, I decided to gather cut my teeth on this process, taking inspiration from claymation masters Bruce Bickford (who famously collaborated with Frank Zappa), Jan Švankmajer, and Art Clokey (who could forget!). Obviously a variety of different styles going on and I wanted to be as experimental and surreal as possible, and even though the process can be thankless and drudging at times, I'm immensely glad that it is finally finished.
Lyrics:
You’ll find me
Waiting in silence
Your spell
Freeing me
We walked in lockstep
We both just want rest
You know what I need
What’s it to you?
What do you lose?
If I make the wrong move
Living in a staggered haze
We both know you’ve seen better days
No better time than now
If you can bear a why you can bear a how
Watch what you say now
They’ll come for you too!
They'll bury you underneath language
It's a tool and they'll rob you bankrupt
Don’t look so glum
You knew this would come
Oh no
(Watch your step) wrong step
Left, cleft
Rest
Moments like these
I’ve replaced my problems with bigger problems
Anomie
You know me best
Wadded up paper, see you later
(Bridge)
A family of disguises
Cry 'til your eyes hurt
Everybody begins differently but ends the same way
Are you here to let me go?
Or to bolster your ego
I need to know
Cut me up like
Origami
Lead me into anomie
Consider me done
(Outro)
Cynically happy
Listless and dull
Numbed to a vegetable
With passions annulled
Pick up where you left off
A pinch of bitterness
You’re not what I thought
How dare you love yourself
Laughing/nothing can help
shrine of daisies
In a world of maybes
Very cool and surreal, reminded me of Eraserhead at some points!!
Thank you! I'm a pretty big Lynch fan so there's certainly some reflections of that in this. I also really like his first shorts the Alphabet and Six Men Getting Sick (Six Times).
What kind of clay did you use? Very cool by the way. Inspiring. Motivational even.
Thanks, man! I used mainly standard Plasticene which were I think "Sargent's" and another polymer clay kit but I found the Sargent one to work the best as the polymer would harden too much to articulate very well.
