Jacoby has actually been dedicating this song to Chester Bennington when they perform it live. It's a beautifully true and deep song.
This really hits hard. I've been that person 20 years ago. I had no one to talk to then. After that, I vowed never to let anyone I know go through that alone. I've talked many people off of that ledge or that bottle out of their hands. I'll always be there for anyone, know them or not. It doesn't matter, I'm always here..
I think you absolutely nailed it with the meaning of the song.
"I'll be the one that will help pull you back from the edge if you need me"
Talking away the dark to me means that you have someone you can confide in and tell them how you're feeling when you are going through a rough time in your life without the fear of being stigmatized for how you feel. On the flipside of this it means being able to listen to what somebody is saying without judging them, and as someone who has been in this particular position I know what it's like when you need someone to just listen to how you feel and what you're going through.
I think talking away the dark for me is having a real conversation that results in some positive roads to go down and some outlet for the dark feelings. Also, showing the person or them showing you that they are truly loved and valued and it's not just verbage being told to them in an effort to get rid of them. All life matters. It's hard, I've felt alone since the sixth grade. I can be in a room full of family and people I know and still feel alone. I've never admitted that before. I keep my cards really close. Same here, I've felt alone for yrs. I can be in a room filled with people I know as well and still feel completely alone like I'm a million miles away

I felt the emotion you gave in this reaction. I love the lyrics and how solemnly they presented it to the audience. My light is always on. I am always open to honest conversations and genuine dialogue. Nothing is off-limits or shameful if someone reaches out to me. I have helped a few, lost a few. You can just offer a shoulder and an ear. My nephew, whom I was very close to, was the hardest for me. Twenty years old, a new dad, and depressed - more dangerously than he let on. He called me to say goodbye, that was he first admission of urgent suicidal thoughts. He hung himself before help could arrive. That was 14 years ago on December 15th. He lives on in his daughter, now a happy healthy 14 year old and fully aware of her father - her mother made sure of that. I miss him dearly and believe my words always made him know he was truly loved. It just wasn't enough save him. My fate was not to be his savior, I was just meant to bring him some comfort while he remained on this earth.

My best friend is in a relationship and he threatens suicide every time she talks about breaking up or if she's just visiting overnight. How does she handle that?
Tell her to just leave. I’m willing to bet that if that is the only time he makes that threat he doesn’t have what it takes. But that is in my eyes a desperate attempt to control someone.

She needs to leave .. it’s rare that someone who says things like that actually do it, it’s more of controlling her .. however it does happen .. she needs to see if she can have him admitted to get him help and she needs to get out .. she can still be apart of his healing but she’s gotta heal herself first.. that’s a toxic relationship that no one deserves.. that’s a tricky situation but she can leave and still have love and care in her heart for him and help him but she comes first
