Every success to the Corris, richly deserved. Hope one day to be able to travel behind these little locos the whole length of the line from Corris to Machynlleth!
That's the dream isn't it?
I would love to see the CR arrange a steam gala to welcome No10 to their fleet with Edward Thomas & Sir Haydn visiting from the TR
Could do Sir Haydn & Sir Handel / Peter Sam & Edward Thomas together - we'd finally get to see the Skarloey engines interact with the Talyllyn engines!
@@danielsellers8707 I was actually thinking that’ll be funny to see No10 take part in the AE4 but me disguised as Falcon as Sir Handel was in his original form on the MSR before being rebuilt on the SR
She's certainly got the buffers
And vice versa!
@therailtourer and a new 3d face.
I drew up the working CAD drawings for the new cab, The cab is 5.7 inches taller and the reason is that the new Corris stock is taller and compatible with Talyllyn stock including coupling height. The original Corris locos were not lower than the carriages.
The way this was acheived so as not to look stretched was by adding 2inches to the cab lower sheets and scaling up the side arched sheets rather than stretching its height vertically. If I stand in the centre of the cab which has a little raised plate between the frames my head just touches the roof of the cab and I'm 5foot 10. Somebody 6ft can comfortably stand either side of the cab.
Nice to see it finally finished. Red looks great on it. RIP Peter Guest, it's so unfortunate for him to pass right before it got put into full service.
R.I.P
it’s sad
The thomas and friends community is gonna have a fiel day with this one
Oh yes we are. 🤣
Oh God 😂😂 What I dont want to see, I dont want to know 😉
@@jackminett768 come onnnn!!!! a new skarloey railway engine!!!!! the number 10!!!
@@thesmudgerofsodor don’t mean to the ‘but actually’ guy; but wouldn’t it be the Mid Sodors?
@@jackminett768 oh wait, that would make more sence, it could be a story where this engine was abandoned as well and years later was found and brought to the skr
Falcon looks amazing! Absolutely thrilled to see new steam locomotion. I hope she has a long and fruitful career!
I contributed some funds to help build this engine. So happy No.10 is finally operational.
It's great to see a new Falcon Locomotive so now Tattoo won't be alone
If The Railway Series didn't have a perfect ending already, I would be smelling another book right now.
And some sibling rivalry
@@datguymiller I'd say number 10 would be more like the awkward 3rd wheel (har-har) to Sir Handel and Sir Haydn, honestly.
I now see number 3 and number 10 doing that spiderman meme now...
😊
Here We Have a Brand Spanking New Narrow Gauge Engine. The Flying Falcon Couldn't Look More Beautiful.
No10 looks ✨stunning✨
If the Corris Railway is taking in names for No10, can I suggest “Morwyn y Mynydd” (translation: “Maiden of the Mountain”)
That is a gorgeous name for a locomotive, however in keeping with the traditions of the original Corris Railway - none of the steam locomotives will have names, purely a number... but I'm sure No.10 will be nicknamed "The Falcon" as were the originals.
No7 nor the original Corris Engines have names so I don’t think No10 will
Or, simply, "Hebog", which is of course Welsh for "Falcon" 😁
We found falcons dopple ganger. This will make sir handles visits to the talyllyn interesting i mean finding out you have a new brother that bears your name on a complete different railway
@@TalyllynRailway1865 Maybe you can save that for another new-build elsewhere.
Corris Railway No. 10 looks absolutely gorgeous! Can't wait to see her with her predecessor, TR No. 3! I'm also really looking forward to the new build, as-built condition, George England that's being planned at the Ffestiniog as well!
Ah yes. The OG Mountaineer. I guess the problem the railway would have to face then, is what to call the ALCO that ended up donning the original's nameplate.
@@retrogamelover2012 I mean, it doesn't seem the Alco is ever gonna run again, but considering it's always sported the name Mountaineer, I think they'd probably just call it "Mountaineer II" or something
Great job to Corris for getting this built! Cheers from Australia.
Lovely to see this finally finished ♥
I love the original silhouette of the Falcon locos with the original cab layout - Though of course, I can see why the TR rebuilt it, door's on the wrong side! Love that the tradition of the "good side" being on the right at Corris vs the left at Talyllyn is carried over in the placement of the Westinghouse pump being flipped on no. 10.
You mentioned the height of the loco cabs changing a bit, I noticed when I was there in person that Edward Thomas (And Dolgoch, to some extent!) were seemingly designed for someone no greater than about my height, is it a situation like with the Taliesin replica where people are just that much taller now, and the loco needed a bit of adjustment?
WOW!!! I'm an Aussie that *_LOVES_* 💖 his British steam and tries to keep up with what's going on in your amazing country, but I knew *_nothing_* of this! To me it's _Sir Handel,_ as I grew up reading the Great Reverend's books, starting around 40 years ago! _Peter Sam_ ( _Stuart/Edward Thomas_ ) and _Skarloey_ ( _Tallylyn_ ) are my favourites, but this is an absolute credit to those who are bringing back another closed and (I'm guessing) forgotten railway! 😍😍🚂
Peter Sam was originally named Stuart. :)
@@luisy.gonzalez6469Thanks! Fixed!! 🙂
If the Railway Series hadn't ended, this would make for an amazing Skarloey Railway book, in which the Mid-Sodor is partially reactivated and Peter Sam & Sir Handel meet their new brothers
E: I really hope furthering the southern extension all the way back to Machynlleth is a long-term goal for the CR. Having that Network Rail connection like the TR does would do wonders for visitor numbers
Congratulations, Corris Railway! 😁 I'm looking forward to progress updates on the Southern extension.
I live in the US and I am always so excited when I see this railways videos
What a beauty! Lovely to have a look around here and seeing her steaming and giving joy to people,
I love how the engines and rollingstock are close to the size of a compact car or truck. They're literally like steam powered cars on rails!
Great video thanks. Congratulations to the Corris Railway for getting their new loco running.
It’s great to see that its based on original cab and has it but it’s just a bit taller. I can except that.
So exciting! Hope LMM gets the chance to do an episode on it soon! Congratulations to the Corris Railway!
21st century steam locomotives should be more common.
I saw this loco on the back of the lorry on the A49 near Hereford the other day - it looked very smart indeed.
I was there for its first train this morning
Great video and a fab overview of the loco. Looking forward to visiting the Corris
With Talyllyn being in a show they also have a new coach in over 156 years and a newly built steam engine I know for a fact there are going to be some Skarloey Railway inspired stories from these
Also the engine looks very nice! Can’t wait to see it in other possible videos on here!
R.I.P Peter. You will be missed
I think we need to make a visit to see this! Great work all!
Absolutely Brilliant! No. 10 looks stunning, Congratulations Corris Railway!
YES A NEW STEAMIE ILL TELL THE ER CREW
Congratulations to the CR on a great new engine. God bless
Gorgeous little Engine, must get over to Corris next year to see it in steam.
John
wow, The T1 loco is planed to be built, the Tornado and coris
The seconf coming of steam
What a gorgeous engine! I wonder if the 2020's will be the new age of steam...?
I really hope so
Fantastic job, beautiful little loco.
Dare it be said that the proportions of the cab are much better than on TR No 3.
Dare it be said that the proportions of something else in this video are also pretty impressive?
The red looks absolutley gorgeous on No.10! Does anyone know the specific color of it?
The air pump has quite a sharp sound; still, it reminds me of the softer Westinghouse vacuum pumps I used to associate with Liverpool Street.
You could borrow no:7 and no:10 from Corris for Awdry Ex 4 while no:3 goes to the corris for the weekend
Holly shèeeeèeeeeeeh i feel a ttte custon coming on yallll🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful
I'm seeing nowadays that trusts are building modern steam engines to be like their historical counterparts such as this, the A1 and currently the P2
I wonder if in the TTTE world the Skarloey Railway would suddenly have replicas of Sir Handel and Peter Sam like how there’s a new build Hughes Falcon and Kerr Stuart Tattoo on the Corris Railway.
Lovely loco
Aw heck naw the TR is doing a collab with the Corris.
But in all seriousness, it's great to see a new engine on the Corris Railway to go along with the Tattoo
Well all know who’s should be running the Falcon don’t we😎 @lmm
Heck Yeah!
awesome!
Message to the railway you’re the best railway ever
Babe wake up new train just dropped
He looks like Sir Handel from the Railway Series books.
Corris N'10 is also called
Flying Falcon now.
Me: I wonder where this is?
RAF T6 Texan II Trainer: Flies Over.
Me: Oh it's Wales.
Falcon, eh? *Mid-Sodor Flashbacks.*
Hi when you book a footplate experience do we get to choose our loco a few weeks before or is it random or is it one loco designated for every footplate experience
Edward Thomas and Sir Hayden have a new baby brother
Good video, like !!!
Audrey would be flipping out right now if he was still alive
The Corris Railway is truly amazing.
It was dead. Kaput. Most of the track ripped up, rolling stock all sold off... It was gone.
But look at it now. The track has been re-laid about as far as it can go barring a reopening of the rail passage under a certain bridge. It has new carriages built to the vintage design, plus IIRC some restored vintage ones. And it even has two steam locomotives built just for it in the 21st century - the Tattoo-class from 2005, and now this brand-new one to the Falcon Works design that made up most of the original fleet.
AYYY NEW LOCO
"Peter" would be a wonderfully fitting name for No. 10
now sir handel has a little brother
So when's LMM gonna drive it?
I’ll give it less then a month!
he already has, remember....
Ah good, I'm not the only one thinking this XD
Will this new falcon come vist tylaylan?
Hey now i can make another small narrow gauge engine in minecraft with a cab that the player can get in the cab to my collection
Yes my collection of narrow Guage engines are life size to they're real life counterparts they were next to my American engines and the narrow gauge engines are smaller then the American engines my narrow gauge engines are smaller the craftyfoxe's skarloey railway engines
Are there any Plans to Name Number 10?
No there aren't, the original Corris Railway never named their steam locomotives so the revived Corris Railway intend to keep that tradition going.
Nos.1 - 3 were known as "Falcons" after whom they were built by and No.4 was known as "The Tattoo" as that was it's Class of locomotive - never official names though, and that's the exact same with No.7 and No.10.
Do an engine story about Dogloch
They should name #10 "Hughes Falcon" and #7 "Kerr Stuart"
Wow
Sir Hayden’s brother
The new loco is quite a pretty sight! That cab is very annoying to me personally im very accustome to the orginal height and its just the slightest bit taller and it just bothers me and I dont know why.
show me a picture of a Falcon lower than it's carriages bet you can't.
Forgive me, but the fact it looks like Sir Handel and the fact it’s called falcon immediately made me think of Thomas. I’m sorry.
Well it's Sir Handel's class
I bet it's named after Falcon from the RWS books
A possibility
Other way around! Falcon in the books is named after the original Corris Railway locomotives - built by the Falcon Engine & Car Works, hence the nickname "Falcon"... which is where Wilbert Awdry got the name from.
Sorry, you should have given N. 3 and N. 4 back to them. You got them for a song in the 1950s, and have plenty of locos now.
We have just enough operational locos to provide our most intense passenger service at the moment as No.1 and No.4 are out of service, so there is very much still a need for 6 steam locomotives in total to provide cover for locomotive failures etc - just enough locos, not plenty.
Respectfully, by the time the Corris Railway were looking at building their No.7 - Edward Thomas had done more years working on the Talyllyn than it had ever done so on the Corris, and so now has Sir Haydn. You also have to take into consideration the historical context of when the Corris was starting to run passenger trains - a point where the TR definitely couldn't afford to lose two steam locomotives.
We have a very amicable relationship with the CR as I hope this video represents - but the two ex-Corris locos are just as much a part of Talyllyn history as they are Corris history, and the CR recognise that fact too. Without the TR buying the locos, we'd most likely have nothing left from the Corris, plus No.3 and No.4 have both visited and operated on the revived Corris multiple times in the past 30 years.
@@TalyllynRailway1865 Interesting and encouraging to know that the TR is still getting good use out of all its engines. I was a bit disconcerted when I visited a few years ago that the service seemed to be down to 3 trains a day whereas I remembered it as being half-hourly from a childhood visit in 1971 (when we travelled in a train driven by Prince William of Gloucester, who was a patron of the line but sadly killed in a flying accident soon afterwards). But I guess there is a significant difference between the shoulder season and the August peak. And in 1971 there were far fewer standard gauge preserved railways so the Great Little Trains of Wales faced much less competition. Despite the Talyllyn's historical pre-eminence it does face the problem that it is not quite as accessible as the Ffestiniog or the Vale of Rheidol.
@@iankemp1131 How is the TR less accessible than the Rheidol or Ffestiniog, given it's slap bang in the middle of them (35 miles each way if you wished to visit either from Tywyn) on the Cambrian mainline?
@@CrisisOnACanoe Aberystwyth gets a better train service than Tywyn and is a bigger place, while Porthmadog/Blaenau are accessible more easily from the North Wales Coast line and resorts. But remember lots of people travel by car, and then the difference is much greater. Tywyn is really out on a limb.
So this isn't rebuilt or refurbished? No pre existing parts? One hundred percent new built steam in 2023?
Correct!
Wonder what Wilbert Audrey would have thought of this engine and what he would’ve named and done with him
Wilbert took INSPIRATION from the railways. Likely then, we wouldn't have seen them in the railway series. Although l think he would've found them very interesting. Wilbert's go with the railway series ended 33 years before no.7 was built anyway (he also died 7 years before as well.)

No.10 is s h m a l l
The even finded the brand new one two train on my shoe three four train some five six steam train kicks
was she named after sir handels old name?
Corris No.10 doesn't have a name, she does have the nickname of "Falcon" however and this comes from where the original Corris engine were built.
Back in 1878, Corris No.1, No.2 and No.3 were built by Hughes's Locomotive & Tramway Engine Works - at the Falcon Works. The engines were very quickly nicknamed "Falcon's" because of this.
Sir Handel's old name is in reference to this, and Peter Sam's old name "Stuart" has a similar origin - as he was built by a company called Kerr STUART
@@TalyllynRailway1865ok btw it’s a shame awdry isn’t here for this I bet this engine would’ve made a great rws engine even though he looks very similar to sir handel.
Air brakes? Doesn't seem very authentic. Shouldn't it be vacuum or friction brakes?
Just kidding. It's a lovely li'lle engine.
New film about this loco project available here - ua-cam.com/video/Et_TsqNKTIo/v-deo.html
Is it a freelance design?
No, it's based on the original 3 steam locomotives that ran on the Corris railway, of which TR #3 is the sole survivor.
