The cover believe it or not actually stops the plate from vibrating as it changes speeds. Cover acts as a stiffener for these cvts! The plate free floats. some have gone as far as to drill a hole in it with a bolt and bolt it at some point to the engines mounts to help with it also on higher rpm builds!
The cover is flimsy plastic though, so it doesn’t make much sense. I used to have the cover on, but the bottom bolts wouldn’t fit in because my frame was in the way. So since the bottom wasn’t bolted it would vibrate like hell whenever you are riding. That’s why I took it off.
