I love watching a "first time" hybrid go through that much water like it was nothing. Its even better when the hybrid Range rover cant ford much of any water. Land Rover themselves stated that their hybrids cant go through water due to the motor and batteries. The here comes subaru with their first hybrid, for a tiny fraction of the cost, going through a river.
I've had this car for two years and I've always had mixed feelings about it. It's a combination of great and not so great. On the nice days with no snow, sand, etc, it is a very boring, loud and uncomfortable ride with very little features. When you do finally go on some adventure it seems unstoppable and can be a lot of fun.
"Spare tires are a almost a thing of the past". Seriously? I'll take the standard XV with manual AND spare tire thanks. I've had flat tires happen and even an blow out over the years where the spare was needed. Some of those times I was far from home so I was grateful to have a spare with me to get back on my way. Looks to be a real nice CUV though and would be tops on my short list for daily commute with a splash of active lifestyle and utility needs. Nice review otherwise.
My Fiat 500 didn't come with a spare. Hit a big rock on the highway with my kids in the car and the Fix-a-Flat was useless. Ended up paying $150 for the towing, $? for a new tire, and $300 for a spare tire and installation kit. The tire pressure sensor busted too but I didn't bother fixing it.
I was going to buy one of these until I came across the oil consumption issue and the dealers saying burning a litre of oil every 1200 miles is normal....... EPA should step in as that much oil being put into the atmosphere should be illegal .... Do like the AWD and available manual shift.....
@ 3:38 --> Can a standard Subaru XV drive through such deep water without letting in any water/causing any malfunction on the engine/electronics etc; or do you have a special modification for this video?
+sami yemeyahni Major powertrain components are mounted high in the boxer engine. The air intake is mounted at the top of the radiator. It's obviously not recommended to go driving through water that deep, but it does show the capability of the stock XV. That water test happened during a press event in Iceland. None of the publications that had a report of that mentioned any mechanical issues during their tests.
I'm Subaru mechanic, they had standard issue Crosstrek. The air intake on all late model Subarus is just above the grill under the hood. Shielded to prevent picking up water. As long as water doesn't get deeper than bottom of hood you are good.
I had high hopes for this but was greatly disappointed in the low 160 total HP combined from both the 2.0 DIT and the electric motor, especially when the same engine alone produces 200HP in other Subaru models, and up to 294HP when equipped with a turbo. I ended up ordering a 2015 Forester XT Touring instead. About $7k more loaded but at least it has enough power to not make you feel unsafe on the highway.
I believe those other engines have the same 2.0L displacement, but are different engines. For example, the BRZ is a 2.0 with more HP, but it also doesn't attain the fuel efficiency that the Crosstrek is going for.
+Ricardo Nunez Sounds like "The Price is Right." lol. I have the '15, I'm very happy with it. Takes my little family everywhere we need to go, just wish it has a little more power.
160 hp should have been standard in the gasoline model from the beginning!! Subaru is slow to change certain things. The motor being one of them. Overall I would like to get this cuv

my wife has the 15 crosstrek. acceleration lag is a bit much
Looks like you’re not taking care and driving this vehicle properly.
Awesome improvements to an already excellent vehicle. But I do miss the 2013 rims. Those were a bit of brilliant design!

Everyone should have tire repair kit
3:42 thats some impressive water fording in my opinion. Wow

Very uncommon to burn anywhere near that much. 99% of them burn 1/2 quart to no oil between changes.
5:14 was looking for a little slide slide action there :)

oil consumption problem subaru xv????
How does it drive through water that deep and not stall? That's where the air intake is located? *****
Subarus have a long narrow intake that runs along the top of the front grill/

Having an electric motor might also help too. As it might help in the event something does go wrong with the engine.

espaceman000
Same engine, just tuned differently.
No brake test? Wish Subaru offered this with a manual trans as well though.
You can get a manual transmission on the non-hybrid version
YouDontWannaFightMe Wow that's awesome news! Thanks!
Nice
Spare tire a thing of the past?? No thanks. Every car should have one
👣💛Thanks for sharing....
💟We love it🇺🇸🔥🔥🔥🔥🇯🇵....see ya✈✈✈✈✈

Subaru’s flat four is as much a part of Subaru’s identity as AWD.
Wow I posted this 7 yrs ago !!
