Is this what they look like once fully matured and outside breeding season?

I'm planning on making a video about top 5 purple fish, and I was wondering if I could feature some rainbow shiner footage from your UA-cam videos. I would give you full credit, both onscreen and in the description. No pressure at all; feel free to say no if you're not interested. 🙂

Absolutely. Go ahead! If you’d like extra footage, I can share many more unlisted videos of the shiners. Shoot me an e-mail: fish.folk.aquatics@gmail.com, or PM me on the CARE Forum, and I’ll give you loads of links. Cheers!

Gorgeous! My local fish shop has just started selling them alongside with Goldfish, unfortunately my tank is in a spot which tends to heat up a lot during Summer, or I'd have seriously considered them for my aquarium.
If anyway someone would like to set up a cold/temperate aquarium, I usually suggest them going for Shiners, which doesn't need as much space as Goldfish and also have some stunning colours.

@@raisinggoldfishonabudget7058 I eventually opted for Congo Tetras, which practically gives off a very similar effect, just in warmer waters (I have to keep it softer and more acidic, but still it's more economical to invest in a reverse osmosis system than in a cooler), but I anyway always love those iridescent colours. Glad to have had the possibilit of choosing between species having them, only one being better suited for colder and the other one for warmer temperatures.

Hey there, This is "flyng fox on C A R E forum,
I happen to found this video you had up & I
got to ask, is this what mine will look like
when they are grown ? that's AWESOME.
What size aquarium are they in & how many
was in it ? They look healthy & happy, can't
wait till next week to get mine. thank you.

Yours won’t look like this yet. You’ll need to wait until later in the summer or fall for colors to emerge. But wait for it! Once they’re fully grown, you’ll love their colors.

Nice group. Mine love the bloodworms but are less interested in frozen brine shrimp. But they’ll eat BBS all day long!! Good luck breeding.

    • @fishfolk4059
      @fishfolk4059  3 роки тому +1

Thanks! Fed them a ton of BBS today. They do like "drift feeding." These were born just last summer. I think once they mature more, they'll be incredible! Got several plans for breeding set ups. Tried a stone-pan in the tank. Nothing seemed to happen yet. But males are chasing females some, so they're gearing up. Temp in tank still balancing between 63-66 degrees Fahrenheit. Once light duration gets broadened again here in the next few weeks, and once room temp nears 70-degrees, I think they'll be spawning. Rainbow Darters are fascinating too! Hoping they'll be triggered similarly.

@@fishfolk4059 not really in aquariums. I live not too far from the rivers they are found.
Seem to see them a lot around limestone outcroppings, so assume they like minerals in their water. However I have heard limestone turns water acidic and the ph in their waters is well above 7, so I really don’t know what to tell you.
They are definitely in breeding colors.

Hi there! We got ours from a guy in North Carolina who breeds them each year. He doesn’t really breed or sell them all that much for business, but you can check out his UA-cam channel WhitCloudDynasty. Check with your LFS, and ask them to contact their suppliers about them. I know there’s one supplier in CA that ships overnight. They’ve got them. Jonah’s Aquarium (www.jonahsaquarium.com) had them for a window last month. Most places sell them young. They need time to color up.
