A very interesting tale. My eyes watered when he said 600 recruits stood up as he entered the hall, what an amazing achievement! I look forward to at least two more!!

    Salute and Respect, Sir.
Great interview and an interesting talk on Sandhurst.
I remember Lt.Col Strong from numerous Fire Force deployments, (I was on theAlo G.Cars) when he was then a Major, OC 3 Cdo and K-Car Fire Force commander respected by all and a great operator. Looking very much forward to the follow on interviews.
Many thanks Sir, Hannes, John, Tony and crew for this interview.
    God Bless one and all.

Just always appreciate the retelling of growing-up childhood/school-going experiences in Rhodesia - have yet to hear a boring one!! And Sandhurst itself - must be goosebumps all the way; immensely enjoyed the presentation. Thank you.

@36mins in... I too had a conditional pass at the Officer Selection Board, that I would attend a 3 month course at the Army School of Education, as a serving Solider it was presumed I would need to be taught how to write an essay and be culturally broadened by being forced to attend an opera or two. It was easily the worst 3 months I spent in my career. And that was 2010!

Hannes and Jeremy. Thank you for your first episode into this fascinating man and his life. I agree with others. The "quick stories" were what made this the most entertaining interview and I cannot WAIT for the next episode. How many people can lay claim to being selected as the best officer that Britain had to offer? No more than a handful of people alive today... What an unbelievable achievement! And all done in your first 21 years! Please tell us more!

I remember the pride we at Plumtree felt when it was announced that Jerry Strong had been awarded the Sword of Honour at Sandhurst. A framed photo of him was on the cadet notice board for many years afterwards.

I was in the same unit as your dad, Rhodesian Artillery. He was a fine officer and well respected. My wife to be at that time, worked as a secretary in the law firm your dad worked in, Winterton Holmes and Hill, where he was also well loved and respected. We remember he passed away in 77. Blessings.

This was especially interesting for me, I went to REPS and remember "Mc Larow" as the head master. I was also a signaler in 3 commando where I spent time reporting to the then Major Strong.

Jerry I wonder if your mother knew mine, who was in the British army in India,Burma and Malaysia in ww2. She was Sister Mairi MacRae, later Mairi Edkins. Obviously too late to ask her but did she ever mention the name? Folks were Banket farmers. Incidentally I too started a fire secretly smoking
