- Hi all!
Exactly one week before Jared and I got married, we headed into Anchorage from our remote Alaska village to go shopping for my families resort. I was already heading in for other work, and thankfully Jared was able to come in for the day and help me! I don't know if I could have done it without him.
So enjoy this little vlog of us shopping together for my families resort in remote Alaska.

It always amazes me how you shop and ship things to remote villages in Alaska. We just take for granted that I can drive 20 minutes to get to Costco were I live. It does look like an interesting life.😊
I live 2 blocks away from a Costco, and there are 8 restaurants in a plaza next door to the Costco. Very lucky.
It would be 100 mile round trip for me to go to Costco...in rural America not everything is close by
Our Costco is a 3 hour drive away 😢
@@vickieyoung7122 65 for me 1 way.
Wow did that bring back memories. Hubby and I took care of a hunting n fishing lodge in New Zealand. We had to buy for 3 month and that supply shopping trip was daunting, but the store in town was use to it. We had to fly in by helicopter. That bill was over 1200.00 but that was 18 years ago.
Kisbee Lodge South Island New Zealand.
Your young man reminded me of my hubby. Silly but hard working. Hes a keeper!
I wish this was longer , I would have enjoyed watching you put it all away at the lodge.
You have my Upmost Respect.
That's a lot of work several times a month.
Wishing You and Yours
Every Success Possible.😊
Wow! When we lived in Bethel AK, we would go into town/ Anchorage for the sole purpose of shopping, to stock up basics and ship everything back by freight. Initially, I was mortified as we filled cart after cart with toilet paper, shampoo, snacks etc. That embarrassment faded soon, when I realized that other people also from the Bush, would be there with their overflowing multiple carts. Hoarding never seemed more normal 😊
Genuine question, why would it be embarrassing to have the money to afford a lot of grocery? Your comment is very interesting. I’ve never considered that. Having a card declined for a few things is the only circumstance I’ve ever thought as embarrassing while shopping
What were you doing in Bethel? I’m from there originally but moved to Palmer in the early 2000’s, then we sold our home there in 2021 and are now full time rv’ing in the lower 48.
@@kellypowell1483 oh hi Kelly. Your husband and mine worked together at the Youth Facility. I worked at the hospital as a nurse.
@@Stinglikeabee625 I guess it felt excessive and like I said, the embarrassment faded quickly when I found so many familiar faces with all their carts too, all of us heading to Bethel.
That's not hoarding it's being practical.
Where I live there are so many restaurant supply companies. It’s just really cool to see the effort and time you take to handpick each item yourself and get it to your business and how much personal input goes into it.
Hey beautiful I sure enjoy you and your husbands videos they put a shinning light on my day. Glad you are here to do them and tell us about your community and yourselves
I used to work at Cafe Michele in Talkeetna before she closed down and we would make runs to the Costco in Anchorage every so often. After a few years there I moved back to the lower 48 in 2011 and Ive miss Alaska every single day of my life since. Hopefully one day I can bring my kids back for a vacay. I would have lived there permanently but I was really missing my Dad! Love your little Channel by the way, it makes me so nostalgic! 😭
Y’all are so cute together!!! ❤
I know this seems like a bit of a struggle, but living in your town near a lodge in Alaska seems like a dream at my age ❤
Did you know you can buy the croissants by the case? They are frozen so you can bake them fresh as needed and it is cheaper to buy them that way. You may be able to buy other bakery items that way also. But sure but you could ask
You seem so nice and what a journey you take to get shopping. As a city boy it’s amazing to watch
Love it! Your fiancé is so cute!
The amount of grocery shopping you do is just mind blowing😮😮
Tillamook is some of the best dairy products in the Pacific Northwest.
I love the couple content. Keep it up.
Get the Costco credit card. That way you get a percentage back of what you'd have bought anyway. Then you get a simple single payment each month.
This was soo interesting.
I love seeing grocery stores from other countries and how they compare (I live on the other side of the world, literally).
Thank you for sharing :)
I do too. I've seen, canadian ones, Japan, South Korea, russia, New York amazon store with the smart carts.
I’m surprised y’all don’t invest in a Soda Stream. It’d be SOOO much cheaper than lugging all that heavy soda up on the plane.
How long’s the flight to anchorage?
That's actually a really good idea! Wonder if they would be able to transport the CO2 cylinders on their planes?
I have a soda stream for that exact reason! ❤
Because paying customers are going to expect their favorite soda on vacation.
@@cl5470 I was referring to her personal use!
Our new store should be opening up around October/November, at the Tikahtnu Commons.
This is one of the videos I've seen in awhile anyway love the videos Salina
Omg you have Goya products ❤
Absolutely love your content! I dream about going to an awesome remote place like yours in Alaska or Canada! I desperately want to experience the remoteness (?) and nature you guys call home. Can you recommend a site or something to plan a trip there? Really want to take my gf there. Much love from Germany ❤
I love watching these huge Costco hauls
I love watching you two. Don't know if I could handle flying everywhere. I am scared of flying.
How do you keep frozen veggies and milk , ice cream cold during your trip? Is the airplane taxi quick. Yikes all that food.
You almost need a person in Anchorage to do the shopping lol
Alaska is just another whole different world 😊
Wow I hate shopping to begin with nevermind having to fly to get food and then fly it home 😲😲😊
Love the music choices you make!
I've been following you for awhile now...😂 coincidentally, I was in Port Alsworth for week 3 of OHOP week of June 10 I wish I had met you ♡ take care!!
How do you keep the refrigerated stuff from going bad on the trip back home?
How long will this much food last for, before you need to go for another grocery run?
I don’t know why I’m shocked you all don’t have a wholesale restaurant supply company up there.. That said, I was also thinking the bill would be higher.
Just wondering how you got the trucks into your village I've seen in the other videos? And how do you have electricity so remote?
By barge, but it takes a few months. The town has generators that supply the town grid.
Curious how you keep the food cold/frozen when waiting for air taxi?
So cool. Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉
Dearest Salina, just curious how that sailboat traveled to the water in front of your lodge? From a map it looks as if there is no ocean access. Tia
question?, do you guys have to pay for the air taxi and the car when you get to land? if so how much do you spend?
Please can you show us what you cook at the lodge and your pantry please
How long does it take to get all the stuff back to the lodge? Do any of the frozen things defrost or is it really quick?
Frozen stuff is usually packed separately in coolers marked "frozen". Sometimes in warmer months there'd be issues with melting but keeping stuff cold in Alaska is usually not an issue. LoL 🌺
Wow u fly twice a week! How much is a flight?
Is that your family car or do you have to rent a car every time you go to ankage
Is there a reason you shop at Costco and not a restaurant depot or food purveyor like Shamrock Foods or Sysco?
May not exist where they shop. Alaska doesn’t have all the stores everyone else has .
Do you rent a vehicle when you are Anchorage?
how much does all the transportation cost for everything including you guys
Random question…. Why did your husband tear the cardboard box for the bacon when putting the empty ones back in the fridge? Is there a reason or does he just like to rip boxes lol
My husband does that if he notices the bottom is weak and could break (so the next shopper doesn’t want to use it)
how much are allowed (personal bag) not by weight of other supplies. could you get away with say 5 lbs. on your lap? i used to load planes with post office and each box each bag no matter was considered 5 lbs...
How cold is it there that that ice cream does not melt? I know its Alaska but its still late spring.
So, is there a Weight limit for flying the groceries & cargo back to the village? Does your grandpa fly you each time?...
when flying , there is a weight limit and her grandfather still flies but there are others that do as well
Started watching more admittedly cause you guys are so cute together he seems like a very very good man. For a very very good womsn. Amazing ppl are amazing
So our cases of 7UP in Chicago IL is more expensive then Alaska WOW
Who is Jared? I haven’t been keeping up. Is he from Michigan? That’s my home state.
At the time, he was her fiance, they have since married. I believe he is from Michigan
How much does the air taxi cost? Would it be cheaper if Y'all would have your own😁
it is owned by her grandpa and it is the way they get to an from their remote location.
Ohhh! This was before you were married! That's why it was fiance.
I would love to vacation at your resort! I am terrified of bears do you see many in your area?
Oh is that e
Whole food area refrigerated ?
So when yous fly do you take any of your perishables in your plane. Or does everything get flown in a fly plane that's not yours
what fits will go with them, anything else will come on a later flight
It’s nice that you have a strong Fiancé to go shopping with you.
Do you keep a car in Anchorage?
Restaurants cannot buy from Costco legally in USA.
Distribution companies only
Idk who told you that but that's not true. Chain restaurants may not be able to but private owned ones can buy from whoever or wherever they like. Many use only locally sourced foods and others use bulk stores. It's not illegal at all.
I'd like to learn more about your (now) husband. Did I hear you say he lived in MI? How did you meet? Is he from Alaska? If not, how does he like living there?
they met at the lodge where he came to work during the summer
How do you get the icecream back with out it melting?
I would think it would be better if they made it homemade
What does it cost to fly it all back to the lodge
For a 12 ok of coke here in ne ohio it’s 8 dollars so a case Isn’t so badly priced
Who comes up with the recipes for the lodge?
Where in michigan is he from .. we live in Grand Rapids.
Handsome guy!
$119? Not here in NY. That was pretty cheap.
How often do you need to do a run like this?
I will never gwt over hour husbands smile. So gorgeous
Are there cars at the airport that you rent for the day to do all of this shopping?
The air taxi part of the business has an office at the airport. I suspect the have transport stored their or with relatives that live/work in the “big city”.
I would love to work with y’all but don’t know if I can stand the cold 😂😂
To bad you can't get Sysco to deliver...
Alaska is a awesome beautiful state awesome people but there's no way I could live there to expensive for food also I live in state of Missouri, food is way che aper in Missouri
Yes but we make more money here. My husband and I are in the medical field and our hourly rate more than doubled.
I'm pretty sure they get a yearly stipend as well. Probably still more expensive overall though.
Lovely video x
without an intention of insulting or talking ill , i recommend your husband to make a visit for mental health wellness and stable behaviour , he seems to have gone through a lot , it might be urgent and you'll figure that out afterwards Salina , with all good wishes to you both
❤❤❤
Where in Michigan are you from
Isn't there a Food Wholesale Distributor that services all the small town grocery stores that is cheaper than Costco?? I'm surprised that all your groceries etc., will fit into your lodge airplane...What is the Air Taxi?? I can't imagine having to do that kind of shopping 2x/week during your busy season...that is a lot of work packing that stuff ...
The family owns the air taxi service
Rather than having to trek to Anchorage Costco, have Costco ship to you. If they won’t, petition to Costco to build a Costco in your small town which would be convenient to those living in surrounding towns.
How does the ice cream not melt between Costco and your resort?
Dry ice keeps ice cream frozen
@@ashleyrocha1028 Thanks it was driving me crazy as I know it must take hours to get back to the resort.
Hi from Mississippi
Does anyone make cheese in Alaska?
💜
Who;s car are you driving in achorage?
You are going to need a Boeing 747 to get that all back to the resort.
I never seen meat like that not fridgerated, and the milk too wtf?
Tip and a word of caution: please for the love do not, I repeat do not show your recepit! Because it's got your last 4 digits of your credit card number. Just tell us the amount, but you do not need to show us. :)
What do you reckon they can do with that information? Theres a reason they only show the last 4
They could black out the totals.. I agree with original poster.
@@karen9540 looks like you're just as dumb then. Why do you think they only show the last 4 on the receipt?? Because you can't do anything with it.
@@dalton1824ever different type of card starts with same 4 so that’s 8 numbers of the card
@karen9540 well unfortunately, you are also dumb.
Do you check expiration dates ?
As I watched the video, they checked the expiration dates on everything
That is a gorgeous man.
😳
Hello 🖐️I'm Kat from the Ozarks (Missouri)... I LOVE your channel and the smile y'all bring to my face 😊🥰... I've been Tuning In for a month now ❤... I DO want to share, I have a "newly" acquired Oncologist; they're suspecting leukemia 😞... I'm 57 with one son, daughter in law & 2 awesome grandkids Haylee (10) & Richard (6)... I've unknowingly been sick with this for a year 😞. .. docs wouldn't listen to me about symptoms I was having; now my white blood cells are crashing.... Bone marrow biopsy this week will tell complete story, 🤔... But I'd LOVE to share some recipes I think would be a hit at your lodge... Just with simple Pantry Staples... 😊... Do you have an email for your Subscribers? 💞... Many Hugs!
Kat I’m praying for you and wanted to mention there’s a clinic in Tempe Arizona called Nature Works Best you may want to check out
@@lauram453 🥰 thank you Laura 🩷....I just had Bone Marrow Biopsy this afternoon....now at home recovering 🙏....thank you for your prayers 🙏🩷....I will know results on august 8✝️.... God Bless You 😘
I love when creaters spend the whole video looking at themselves on the camera instead of at the lens while recording 😂
That would suck to have to do that much shopping all the time for groceries and the husband doing all the work while she holds a phone 😂
He is so hot, like how did that happen ❤
Its not a life like it's portrayed, it's so difficult 😪
you guys should find farmers and buy bulk beef im gunna tell you as someone how raises and sell my beef you can get a about 1000 pound of meat from a cow .
not much cow raising on their remote island or the area
I really like your videos but when you are showing receipts please make sure you hide your Credit card information, other then that keep up the videos

Wear your hair down more and hey why not a perm it a better look for ya hey I have five sisters just saying she looks better with her hair down so what 😊
Irks me watching couples and one just stands there throwing orders looking lazy and ... Yup same goes if it was him standing round throwing orders doing jack shit I'd say same thing..Gal help u got two pairs of hands aswell think of it as exercise like gahhhdamn why the man gotta do it all u can't even pick up a small box of anything. Just point here there grab this grab that 4 of these 6 of those with ur piece of paper
fr!!!
her man is attractive.....sorry lol
ok.. a couple of things.......1) the music when you aren't talking is unnecessary, because 85% of the time you were talking anyways, and the music was too, too loud compared to your talking voice, necessitating us to turn down/turn up the volume... .....2) you bought alot of perishables.... milk, sour cream, yogurt, frozen veg, ice cream....... but YOU DIDN'T EXPLAIN HOW YOU KEEP IT COLD/FROZEN FROM THE STORE TO THE RESORT! 3) you explained at least SIX TIMES that you were buying for your resort and not for personal use......... we get it...... don't be so repetitive!. 4) you did not explain how you store all these perishables at the resort..... do you have a walk-in frig/walk-in freezer? We don't know, cuz you didn't tell us..... 5) how long will the food from this trip last? We don't know, because you didn't tell us..... we do know the staff arrives soon..... next week maybe? but how many staff do you feed? We don't know, because you didn't tell us........Do you personally fly down to Anchorage every week to do this shopping during the season? You didn't buy any fruit. No blueberries, bananas, apples, oranges, melons...... You also didn't buy any fresh veg....... tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, avocados, beets, green onions, lettuce, brown/yellow/purple/sweet onions, shallots/garlic........... do you grow your own at the resort? We don't know, because you didn't tell us............what about toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and cleaning supplies? You didn't buy any, why? You didn't tell us.
Why are you so pressed? You’re not entitled to ANY information at all. You could google majority of these questions to learn how it works. That’s what I did. You need to calm down and be respectful. She can blast music as loud as she wants. It’s her video. Chill dude
@@Anna08371 I never said I was entitled to anything, silly. I am telling Salina, who has 81K viewers and 25K views but only 92 comments on this video.......... that her content could be better............. more interesting........ by telling us more about what she is doing and why.............. If the whole point of making UA-cam Videos is to make money off them by growing the subscriber viewing base......... then the videos have to be interesting, fun to watch, full of personality, informative....... and certainly not repetitive......Of course, Salina can do whatever she wants........ be repetitive and blast her music, but I'm suggesting ways to grow her base from less than 100k to up and beyond one MILLION viewers. Isn't that why all content providers do what they do? To make money? It doesn't matter if you own a resort, a farm, cook italian, decorate studio apartments, etc............. the key to subscribers is be chatty, share information and be interesting and personable and above all TELL A STORY. I think she's got the beginnings of something very sweet....... but right now, it needs work. If her viewers won't tell her, who will?
Why do boomers always use all those ........? They are so silly when used in writing. 😂😂😂
@@cl5470 they are spacers/pauses between thoughts.
Very interesting, you guys are kinda funny, I’m not sure if your fiancé is joking or he’s honestly a bit slow and doesn’t catch on very fast…..
