Thanks for another one. He put so much into each composition. This is one of his many tunes that makes me sad & happy all at the same time. I love it when he smiles. One of the most amazing compositions for guitar.
I think that what make's this video so special - besides the song itself - is the fact that you can see every dim of feeling coming from his face. Such a peace
Thank you so much for posting these. I have only come to know about Michael Hedges in the last couple years. Michael Hedges and all the people he inspired have changed my life.
I was fortunate to spend an afternoon with John Stropes shortly after MH's death. It was amazing to study a few of Michael's pieces with him. MH did not waste notes. There was a purpose for every one of them.
Very first piece I ever heard of Michael or of him as a chance needle drop in 1982. Set me on a journey ever sense. Love this and in the 3 times I heard him live always wished he would have done the Happy Couple at those shows but I think he had moved on. Wonderful and still I think my fav from Breakfast in the Field although trying to eak out 2 Days Old at the moment. Whole album was just wonderfully amazing and innocent. As great as Aeriel Boundaries was I always liked Breakfast for it's innocence.
this song always moves me to tears. great song. the fast picking near the end makes me think of rain for some reason. my friend jazzpsalti has a page here on youtube and he does some excellent hedges covers. p.s i like how he goes right into hot type afterwards.
I'm learning it, or trying to, got most of it down except the fast part at the end, that's not saying i'm playing it anywhere near as beautiful as MH, but learning his songs gives me new appreciation for his composing brilliance, as it has been said here before, he doesn't waste a note! most other FS players (percussive and traditional) who 'try' to sound like MH only do a hollow interpretation, even their own pieces seem more fluff and filler than actual melodies.

I keep coming back to this video over and over. Magical guitar playing and composition. One of a kind.
Andrew Westhoff completely agree. I love this live recording of this song.

hey bud, you still around? got some questions for you, being a fellow MH fan, FS guitar player
A sweet song from a sweet man.

Have you listened to the "slow"version yet? It's on my site...

thanks for the tip
If that doesn't make you misty, you're not living
love to hear these posts. thanks.
Hedges was a composer that understood the value of patience.
randy, thanks for the great video.
I’ve almost mastered this song! Only took six months lol and I’m still tripping over my fingers in the end section
i'm amazed that folks have learned to play his stuff. he would be pleased.
Thanks Randy
sin palabras.Michael escribio esto para el y su guitarra esa es feliz pareja.
I'll specifically never attempt to learn to play this song for the one simple reason that it is more grandiose than I will ever be.

Can you tell us abit about your guitar setup? Did you use higher gauge strings? I feeo l like im loosing Intonation when I tune down so low
Real Genius
This guy is an inspiration for McKee himself!
💟Exquisite 💟Harmonics
💟MH: "This is a study of - on the guitar - of notes played in unison so i decided to call it "The Happy Couple".
i've talked with john. he seems a good fellow.
yeah, every note counted. every note was special.
@rlutge I Did. He came thru southern oregon several times. Unbelieveable!
I love the moment at 1:51
The ending, it's so... hauting
Pure Patients
jazzpsalti is a regular and welcome visitor.
(he follows "happy couple," with "hot type" as well. :))
(clutches heart)
thanks for the nice note. randy

nice.
@Hedges001 agreed. did you ever see him?
when I busk, I always follow happy couple with hot type
He should have been a lot more popular but he had his reasons for not going commercial nation wide.
Why didn't he?
@@trewq398 ====== I think to keep in control of his material. If he went commercial he would have to sell his soul for fame and glory.
Is this the audio straight off your camera?
Andrew Westhoff This is likely streamed directly to my VCR from Michael's P.A.
@iowaozone i agree.
i need tab please
@jazzpsalti True story, I can vouch for him. lol
:)
