I am another with medical diagnosed celiac. The gluten free trend has helped me find products on the shelf. It's not fun when you accidentally get gluten.
I agree. Had to go GF in 2008 but other family members were diagnosed over a decade earlier. I remember how hard it was in the 90's to find GF products, but after the craze hit, suddenly everything was labeled and restaurants started changing their recipes to accommodate GF. It made my life so much easier. I do hate the people who lie to servers and make their lives miserable because it means they're pissed off at everyone and I get worse service, but that doesn't happen quite as often anymore. It's been awhile since I've received the stink eye from a waitress. The worst thing I ever heard from a server was "What's a gluten?" Nope nope nope. Time to leave.
@@jbird4478 I am a regular at a couple of restaurants that still do this. Separate cookware and they change their gloves. They ask if it's a true allergy so they know how careful they have to be. And if they do it wrong, they remake the entire meal.
@Don Mega Which is exactly why I haven't ordered pizza or eaten at Subway in over a decade. "BuT wE hAvE gLuTeN fReE bReAd!" Right, and you make regular bread, too, with regular flour, so that's a hard pass, thx. "BuT wE mAkE iT iN tHe MoRNiNG!" [eyes the flour particles you didn't clean up from last night] Mmhmm. Because gluten dies at midnight. K.
Gluten free isnt just for celiacs... So I was diagnosed with lupus a few years back. long story short went on a gluten free diet and all the symptoms of lupus are gone :) Mainly the arthritis and fatigue symptoms. Gluten free diet is a must to cure leaky gut syndrome
+sushiyo Nice! Great to hear. We are as well trying to spread the word. If you are still curious for gluten free recipes, we join gluten free cooking with comedy. As you have experience with gluten problems that are not celiac disease, we would really really appreciate your input.
I have leaky gut. All gluten free did was make me constipated and mess up my microbiome.
I remember when the only people i knew who ate gluten free stuff were the ones who were allergic to gluten.
+jmh1189 And I remember when peanut allergies did not exist.
Except there's no medical test to show you are allergic to gluten, so all those people were lying as well. The closes thing they can test for is Celiac disease, which is NOT gluten.
+zdrux there may not be a lab test to point at gluten, but they can monitor your diet and narrow it down to products containing gluten.
+Timothy Krainik i even replace my pizza to my own handmade full grain pizza. but I need to aleays add some bleached flour to enchance gluten content so that dough would be springier.
Thanks Obama.
Buying pancake mix no longer qualifies as 'from scratch'
So you want him to grow the grain himself, grind it into flour, raise his own chickens for the 1 egg needed to make pancakes, milk his own cows and then combine all the ingredients to make a pancake?
+Urban Eyes milk and then pasteurized
Urban eyes, i think pancakes "from scratch" means you buy a flour for a few pennies, add a pinch of salt, an egg, and milk instead of using a package that has those ingredients mixed into 1, often with milk and egg powder included.
@@antondegroot6061 Wait, when do you add salt to pancakes?
@@da14a49 I always add a pinch of salt to pancakes and cakes. Helps to balance the taste.
Homemade is healthiest. You choose what goes in your food.
Ashley Mills me too I make all my stuff from scratch even bread
Um yeah.... Are you going to grind up your own wheat to make flour?
Cooking from the scratch is better. I stopped going to the restaurant.
Yeah and another episode were of food products that contained "fruits" or "vegetables". Why don't people just eat fruits or vegetables...
000snow000 I actually know people who do....but that said, if you're celiac, you still can't use wheat whether you make your own bread or not.
Sure, gluten free being a trend is stupid and people who don't need to be gluten free shouldn't. But if it weren't a trend, people who can't eat it wouldn't have nearly as many options. Where I live the trend isn't all that like it is in larger cities, and it's frustrating to get a good variety of food for me to eat. So I support the trend, because the popularity keeps the products coming and offer many more options.
Same. Having the real sensitivity and got allergy attack from a little bit of gluten in various product. Very difficult.
This logic doesn't hold. How about corn syrup? There are people who are allergic to corn as well. Should we have "corn-protein-free" diet trend? There are people allergic to chicken protein, egg, all kinds of seafood. There are even people allergic to water (well, through contact, but you know what I meant). There are all kinds of thing that can be hyped in this way, but people's attention is limited.
It is bad for me as someone with a wheat allergy, because people assume I have Celiac disease which I don't. Sometimes I get gluten-free because of that, which can still contain wheat. It really worsened because of this trend.
Kristen Sheppard That's actually a good point
The thing about that is that in many of the products it is simply reduced gluten not gluten-free. To a normal person that's fine. But a family friend has celiac disease and any gluten for her is a problem.
"I believe it's healthier" is not an argument.
You don't need an argument to defend yoru food choices.
GLUTEN HAS NO HEALTH BENEFITS. Not one.
But it causes plenty of health problems.
Causes plenty of health problems such as?
Jerky Bogis There is no research evidence to support your claim, except for people who have celiac disease. Therefore it is nothing more than superstition.
+tyler oakley Weight gain.
Wow, I can't believe the ignorance! There is a tremendous amount of research and many many studies that show the dangers of gluten. Do your research and watch " The truth about gluten". Wheat is not what it used to be. It is now "frankenwheat". There are 42 chromosomes in modern wheat as compared to ancient wheat ( einkorn wheat) which only has 14 chromosomes. This is very dangerous for ALL living creatures. Many autoimmune and neurological diseases are eliminated when gluten is removed from the diet. I am living proof. Unfortunately, most of the gluten free products on the market are garbage and just plain crap. I've had to make a life style change and learn to prepare my own gluten free products with all the gluten free grains out there, like amaranth, quinoa, millet etc.
I am in love with market place series. Love from Nepal.
aastha subedi big time. I’m from Canada and know a lot of the companies they investigate. Really cool
I'm not celiac but I have IBS and most foods like dairy and gluten and such make me sick, constipated or have diarrhea for days and days. Going gluten free has been so much better for me,even though sometimes even dairy free, gluten free things can still make me sick,it never gets me sick for days and days, usually it will be a few hours or one day and it tapers off and I get better. I just feel alot better eating gluten and dairy free.
Some of us have gluten intolerance , these gluten free products is helping us
+Hind Raheem That was mentioned in the show.
If you believe you have gluten intolerance, see your MD. Get a referral to a specialist, have the biopsy done and get an answer, for sure. You either are allergic therefore CELIAC or you are NOT. It's very simple. Otherwise, you just like being bilked for a marketing scam that knows you aren't paying attention. There's no two ways about it. There's no such thing as gluten intolerance without being CELIAC.
And for the people who don't, the products will inflict gluten intolerance upon them. Permanently. If you cut gluten out of your diet and you're fine at digesting gluten, you will permanently lose the ability to digest it. You will be on a gluten free diet for the rest of your life and have no choice but to seek out those products after the trend ends and you can still only find it in specialty stores for astronomical prices.
@@flapkatt6094 I disagree. I do not have Celiac disease, but glutens seems to cause me problems. I think perhaps some people are sensitive to it without full blown Celiac disease.
Very much!
I have endometriosis and going gluten free it has helped with my pain.
Anecdotal evidence.
People who eat gluten free but are not even intollerant or allergic ruin it for the people who actually get sick of glutten cause now everyone thinks we are just on the hype train
We want people to eat gluten free. We need more people looking at and questioning labels so industry follows. You want to be able to buy a can of tomatoes at a normal price and be sure it is gluten free. People who need to live gluten free need to be more assertive and vocal with companies. Kroger claims there boars head deli meats are gluten free, but they shave it with the same tool they use on food with gluten=contamination. They should be getting all kinds of complaints instead of wondering why I ask this question they haven't heard before.
Organize, be vocal, vote with your dollar, and be thankful that people who might not need to live gluten free are buying the product because we need them.
on the other hand, the more of the demand, the more people who NEED to be GF will benefit from the supply it generates ;-)
Lets Mash It Up! at least since so many people want it now, theres more products available
How do they ruin it exactly?
zombieseezombiedo people will take it less serious cause they will assume you re one of those whos just following a trend. I work in a restaurant and ive seen so many people that claim to be gluten intollerant but dont care when you tell them the fries contain gluten. I know my coworkers get really anoyed by those people.
I've actually seen Gluten Free Vodka touted in the USA. It's a no starter. Kinda like a Elephant Free Car.
A. Nameline They've started adding gluten free on products that didn't have gluten to begin with to appeal to that new crowd. People who can't eat gluten already know what they can and can't eat, but the new gluten free by choice crowd doesn't and this marketing makes them more likely to buy it.
Hahahaha, reminds me of when I read a powdered drink mix that said GLUTEN FREE on both the front and back of the package.
Since vodka is made through the distillation of cereal grains, it could actually be harmful for people with celiac disease. In theory, the process of distillation removes the gluten protein, but some people with celiac disease seems to react bad to them.
Many vodka brands are gluten free. Most vodka isn't made with grains.
@@marisu9765 Might be that corn also has gluten and as you know just about everything we consume has some form of corn
As someone who IS gluten sensitive, I can say that "yes I can eat gluten from time to time and not get any symptoms" and "no, I can't eat gluten on regular basis".
I might eat one slice of pizza and be absolutely fine, but I could also spend the night shitting my intestines out. That's not a gamble I would take all the time, but sometimes I really want that pizza and will eat it and face whatever comes out of it. It may not do anything, but it may upset my stomach.
Anyone who has irritable bowel syndrome knows what I'm talking about.
That "someone I know tells me she's intolerant, but that's only 6 days a week" may not want to talk about her bathroom problems with you, so it's easier for her to just say she's intolerant and may still sometimes eat gluten, but won't tell you the small problem of waterfall diarrhea that comes out of her couple of hours later.
The trouble isn't necessarily gluten, it's the fact that we as a society overdo carbs in general.
Aron Janzen and eat less fruits and vegetables, and consume more n more process food that is filthy and dirty processed in factory
It is if you have Coeliac Disease! numpty
Seriously a great special. I used to work for a pizza place that was pretty well-known for its gluten-free crust and adherence to the Celiac standards of preparation (i.e. avoiding gluten-contamination during prep). I was always known as the "expert" on both gluten-free and vegan foods there (since I was following both diets, and gluten-free only because I had doctors tell me I possibly had a "gluten intolerance" based on years of abdominal issues I'd been dealing with), but because of that, I became the go-to for anyone looking for advice on Celiac in particular.
I had one mother come in whose son had just been diagnosed with Celiac, and she felt super lost. I tried to get the point across that 1. We live in an awesome time for those with Celiac to live totally "normal" lives, i.e. that as a kid he can still totally do pizza nights, eat GF birthday cake, etc. and still feel like a normal kid, but 2. I tried to bring it home that even if he's not used to it, eating a predominantly whole-foods diet would be best for him. It was honestly so sad that she didn't even know until I said it that he can still have rice, corn, etc., but either way, I think that's a big problem with the "education" from the gluten-free movement
"Don't buy either one. Here's a spaghetti squash. Cook it."
I hate the gluten free trend. I'm allergic to wheat, but people just assume I have Celiac disease. I've learned the hard way that people don't know the difference, so now I have to check everything. Even gluten-free products often contain wheat.
People, aside from celiac disease, there is also gluten sensitivity. From stomach issues, to being bloated, and getting acne and gaining weight, many many people experience symptoms. My body doesn't even like gluten free products.
Which goes to show that maybe it's not just the gluten. I know a few people with celiac disease that are gluten free and twice my size.
Sunny Dune a lot of it has to do with processed carbs, we eat too many of them, gluten free people included.
I cant have corn, soy, oatmeal, dairy or anything else with traces of gluten or sugars without hives, runny nose, bloating, and inflammation. I believe its a stomach acid issue. Nameste products are the only normal pasta...bread things i can have and I miss food but it hates me. First symptoms were around 2003 so its not a current fad for me. Not one comment about gmo in these posts i noticed. Just things about people faking this? People just dont know enough and its hurting those who have a serious...not all in their head....problem with modified...over processed foods. Hope you find some comfort.
@@deliad9960 Celiac Disease does not mean you have to be thin or have lost weight because of the disease. Weight loss, even extreme weight loss, can be a symptom of the disease, but not everyone has the same symptoms. Nor is anyone's size your concern.
It could be fructan.
My sister is celiac. She eats one normal spaghetti noodle by accident and she is incredibly sick. She won't eat normal meals for nearly a week and won't eat at all for 2 days. It is terrible and it is frustrating because we have gone to restaurants and gotten laughed at and she was told she was "skinny enough".
No idea why anyone would voluntarily stick to a gluten free diet if you don't have celiac disease.
I also have celiac.
I broke my leg this summer, the rehab I was in for a month did not have gluten-free available.
When I got home I was so sick; it took fourteen days to get back to my health.
Of course this had an effect on my healing process.
For my family it's not a trend, being gluten-free is life and health
Non Celiac Gluten intolerance is a disease too-- It affects them Neurologically.
It specially affects the Fad Needers and the Gulliblers.
I'm an American. I really appreciate and enjoy these shows. Thank you!
This is good for Darcy given that gluten free products are more widely available, but for the rest of us, it just means higher prices, and fewer products with gluten. The one thing I've learned about "nutrition" is that people have no clue what they're talking about.
Luckily for you, the gluten-free fad only affects processed foods in the middle aisles, which you shouldn't be loading up on, anyways.
a lot of people have a non celiac disease related gluten intolerance
theres nothing wrong with reducing inflammation - but half the time gluten free is just crap like tapioca or potato starch, and rice flour. if you’re that bothered, make it yourself.
They just showed their ignorance about people with celiac. I know people that can't use certain conditioners because of the wheat in them causes skin irritation.
lyokofans I believe there is research that demonstrates this also.
lyokofans Hi this is a great video. Especially for those who really want gluten diet. some people want to different type of diets I got some informative information by searching Delicious Desserts Perfecta Solution if you want useful information then search Delicious Desserts Perfecta Solution in google.

So what you think is it the gluten or the wheat .... because .... well wheat is not the only grain that has gluten in it. So yeah wheat and gluten are not synonymous.
So glad they made an episode about this trend!
Here's why people who go gluten-free often feel better and lose weight: They avoid/eliminate foods that are high in carbs. Breads, pastas, etc... But it's not eliminating the gluten that's causing the benefits. There is no medical evidence that gluten causes any diseases/conditions; rather, an excess of carbs can cause problems. So laying off the spaghetti might help you lose weight, but it's not the gluten.
Uhm, I'm not sure what you think you know about gluten, but I am medically diagnosed with Celiac Disease. A disease, that is in fact, dealing with gluten. Celiac Disease is an auto-immune disease that is triggered by gluten. Carbs are not making me sick, my body is making itself sick because of a genetic DISEASE in which my T-cells react to gluten.
As a Coeliac I love the fact that GF is now a health fad. It just means that there is more food available for me when I go to buy food. 12 years ago when I was diagnosed you had to go to artisan food stores and buy a loaf of GF bread for $20. Now I can walk into any supermarket and I will find stuff that I can eat everywhere.
Seriously, can't believe that guy was complaining.
That's your opinion, and it's quite narrow-minded. For a lot of us, the selection isn't that big a deal because we don't eat many processed foods in the first place. And having a bigger selection of gluten-free products doesn't mean the gluten-free fad lacks actual problems. It has them. For some perspective, I've gotten flack from so many people because they perceive celiac disease as not a big deal, because of how trendy it has become. They nag me to "just try a bite", even though it wrecks my GI tract and gives horrible fog. I get constant skepticism at workplaces. I've had people give me foods with gluten in them and after I reacted, tell me "oh, I thought it wasn't that big a deal" which was extrapolated with "I thought it wasn't serious". I've also received looks from servers if I ask if they have any gluten free items, like they don't believe I actually have a bona fide health problem. Obviously you haven't needed to deal with that on a constant basis. Your anecdotal experience isn't the rule.
@@amorphousblob I fail to see how I am the narrow minded one. Fun fact, I have also gotten flack and teasing from friends, colleagues and family. I have been told to try all sorts of food that I definitively cannot eat (KFC, Krispy Kreme donuts and ramen to name a few). I have gotten weird looks from servers and my family literally were asked to leave a restaurant after asking about gluten free.
But at the end of the day, gluten free foods being a fad makes buying food easier for many people not just coeliacs.
@@LostBeaver Totally missed the point of my comment.
@@amorphousblob what was the point then?
I think its great because you no longer have to find gluten free stores...it was like a drug deal whispering: Do you have gluten free here? Running away like they where going to call the cops when you got a strange look. Now we can buy in the main isle🥰
If gluten free food is so popular, it shouldn't cost so much more than regular. It's another example of greed in the marketplace. My granddaughter lost her excess weight after going gluten free. She looks and feels so much better. The gluten causes heartburn, but without it you can enjoy eating and not have to worry about discomfort. It's good for everyone. The non-gluten-free people are in the minority because of today's food being "different" due to the gmo's in the grains and seeds of our food. You don't have to have celiac disease to need a gluten free diet. Here we go with another tug of war between one group and another. It started with vegans vs. meat and dairy eaters, now, it's who needs gluten free and who shouldn't. I wish people would stop trying to dictate what others should eat. It's a matter of personal choice. Live and let live.
You don't need to have celiac disease to be gluten-free. Being gluten-free works for people with eczema & allergies as well. It causes inflammation on a lot of people.
Not gluten, processed grain. If someone who's not celiac sees an improvement from going gluten free, it's typically because they're reducing the amount of bread and grains, not because they're buying Udi's
BohoRho I have eczema. Gluten isn’t the cause, you don’t even know what it is. Eczema is an autoimmune issue and the only thing that would effect it in your diet is DAIRY because of its oil/mucus production. Don’t spread lies
Exactly! Agreed. I don't have celiacs, but I am intolerant to gluten (like a mild allergy). With a gluten diet, my stomach lining becomes inflamed and I begin to have digestive issues. Cutting gluten out of my diet has changed my life significantly in terms of inflammation.
@@alize0623 My sister has had really bad eczema for years and we found out that citrus fruit triggered her flare ups. When my son got eczema we tried to find the trigger by elimination diets and going gluten free has really helped him a lot. The dairy didn't seem to be a factor for him. Everyone's body is different but gluten and dairy are 2 of the leading causes of eczema flare ups.
I used to get soya milk on prescription and my parents had to travel to a specialist health food shop in another town for bread etc. and it used to be like a solid brick so while it irritates me that practically everyone identifies as gluten intollerant, at least I can get a far greater range of better tasting products.
I wish we had more gluten free stuff here in the states. I'm allergic to the stuff :/ I kind of like that it's a trend because it gives me more options. It's nice to be able to eat crackers and bread now and then even if it's a little more expensive.
HoneyedHylian if you buy stuff in bulk it is way cheaper to make your own gluten free items then buying. I would not want to buy bread for $7.00
Try Aldi or wegmans. They usually have good sized sections.
I've only ever eaten one thing knowingly that was gluten-free since we don't buy those sorts of things, and that was a pack of chocolate chip cookies. Most everyone loves chocolate chip cookies. How can they go wrong? By not adding gluten. The first time I had it, it was crumbly and dry. Plus, I really don't feel they used real chocolate in them, or rather, they used a different kind. It was a light brown instead of the dark brown of regular cookies. I didn't finish the cookie and swore off of them. However, I figured I'd keep an open mind and did try another. Knowing what I was getting myself in to, I managed to eat it. In lieu of having nothing else sweet at the time, the package was almost finished. One lone cookie remained in that pack for two weeks before I just threw it away. When a chocolate chip cookie remains in a house of four people for TWO WEEKS and nobody wants, it, it's a sign. Even if there was science to prove that it was healthier, I'd pass. I'll eat the regular cookies in moderation (as you should eat all things in moderation) and keep it moving.
I have been gluten free for almost 6 months and feel great, no bullshit, I'm never going to back to eating gluten. Anyway, I'm pretty sure humans just started eating wheat, barley, rye and oats since industrialization started (200-300 years ago), so I do not believe our digestive systems are adequate to digest the protein found in these 4 grains. Your not losing anything from not eating those four grains, and your only gaining a healthier lifestyle by being gluten free because you begin to substitute real food instead of generic mass produced heavily processed and packaged foods.
Ever heard of the Placebo effect? You, my friend, are a prime example of that. Nice job being the common sheep.
Bris Vegas
Humans have been eating wheat for between 7 and 10 thousand years. In terms of human evolution it's pretty short but in terms of generations and how long we've been eating a lot of the stuff you find on shelves today it's pretty damn long.
When is the General Public going to understand that these companies are not on anyone's side but their own? They are there to fill their own pockets . It really is that simple! It doesn't matter where you live. I would love to see a surge in truly caring companies that do not use BS tactics. Competitive pricing with heart will win my business.
My brother has Coeliac disease so this trend isn`t doing any good for him, because prises on gluten-free products had risen.
About broducts themselves.. I find some of them tasting better than ordinary ones.
I live in England and it has actually reduced the prices and brought many more products on the market that were not there before. But I still make most of my foods from scratch but it is nice that if I want to or need to for any reason I can go to the store and just buy it rather than get it on prescription or make it myself. Which is the only way I used to be able to get stuff before. I am 61 and remember the old days and I bought some GF flour once without prescription and it was sooooo prohibit ably expensive and not as good as doves farm which is great. I am now loving the freedom and choice that I have now.
TheChriskitty572 The market in Europe (and England is part of that ^_^) is very different from the North American market. In my experience, North Americans are extremely naive in many respects, ready to jump on any new trend, whether it makes sense or not, and the industry seeks to profit from that by gouging its customers.
TheChriskitty572
I`m glad for you. Yes, now we too have more products to choose from. However prices have not been reduced yet (I`m from Latvia). The only thing we do make ourselves is white bread, and some ice-cream time-to time.
The positive thing about this trend is that more gluten-free products come on the market and at greater variety. The negative is that people who do not react to gluten, somehow thinks it is much better for them and should stop eating gluten. If only we could keep the positive and get rid of the negative but oh, liberal and free markets don't work that way...
+Nokah The variety is only from GF PROCESSED products. Fresh whole food GF products are always available but take care to keep the new food industry GF products at a minimum, as their high refined starches and sugars and other processed ingredients are red flags for insulin resistance, belly fat, and the medical conditions that follow. Those who "do not react to gluten" especially if overweight should not eat PROCESSED GF foods regularly for 'health' as they tend to cause high blood sugar leading to insulin resistance etc. Overweight should seek natural GF foods not processed ones.
+thetaijicentre Just like a recipe I looked up known has paleo bread.
+Rob Legroulx Thank-you for your reply and information. I am of the view that nuts and seeds should not be heated at high temps or for prolonged times. So although I see many beautiful looking cake like Paleo "breads" I would only consume these occasionally out of respect for someone's effort and kindness at providing a special treat.
+Rob Legroulx BTW I also consider that the term "Paleo" describing a "bread" as an oxymoron pairing: that the ingredients and tools to make such bread are stretching the concept of pre- agrarian style food consumption - baking powder, ovens etc??
So yes there are "non grain" GF breads made from eggs nuts and seeds, but the point of GF eating is to improve gut , neurological and immune health, and the content of Paleo options may be unsuitable long term also.
We don't know, these recipes have not stood the test of time, and have not arisen naturally as the Paleo diets would promote. They are totally dependant on the modern food marketing and technology systems to make every "processed" final product. And whilst that is still largely done in the domain of home and cottage industry, in the mass market it is likely to head in same manner as consumption of mass-produced wheat/bread.
Stoneground flour bread previously popular with health foodies has now been replaced by high speed/friction home food processing equipment and the ready availability of foods such as nuts being available all year from a global market. These are not in keeping with traditional agrarian diet let alone an understanding of paleo style diet.
After many years flowing from fad to fad in the search for better health I now choose to reduce consumption of all processed foods, relying on nutrient content from fresh produce as much as possible . Bread is convenient but not needed.
+thetaijicentre *I meant Paleo *Bread* options
Avoiding gluten is like avoiding food coloring #4
I make pizza 5 nights a week and its 100% gluten free and tastes like heaven!
+Bris Vegas I would beg to differ. Pizza might taste great - but the crust tastes like dirt.
not even 5min into this, but my opinion on "gluten free" is just another way to market. its a marketing strategy. instead of coming out with new flavors for example, now its "gluten free!" and of course the hollywood stars are on board thats the first way to make anything popular. if you want to loose weight eat less and do more. its actually that simple. cals in vs cals out. its been like that since human existence. look up the guy that ate twinkies for 3 months as his diet and lost 27lbs and actually was healthier by the end of his "diet". people are just being scammed day in and day out.
It is idea of a diet
and if it is just marketing it will stop
and people who feels better with
are a good nutrition before
and they also have no issues
why they feel better
it is marketing ?
I am so sick of the Gluten free trend! It is so stupid! It puts people who legitimately can't eat it (those with celiac) at risk. One friend of mine will go out to a restaurant and she still needs to be cautious of the item marked "gluten free" because if it isn't prepared in a gluten free environment she could still be sick for almost a month! The same with the "gluten free" grocery products. As for all of the "I went gluten free and it made my (fill in the blank) better" I totally agree with the placebo affect.
This just needs to happen for 'sugar free' products cuz I'm a diabetic (type 1) lol.
In a 60 Mins presentation, Andy Rooney once expounded on the more expensive Salt Free/No Salt vegetables. All forms he featured were more costly. He commented that when the companies were finished removing all the 'harmful' components of ordinarily consumed foods & increasing the prices, most folks would not be able to afford to buy them. How prophetic.
I hate those kind of trends, but now.. I find this so good for me :) shopping easier and I can spare some time not cooking everything myslef! So yeah! It is expensive, but not always tasty... so I mostly prefer my own bakes etc. Being gluten for me means my skin is on fire, itchy and full of acne just a while after consuming it! So bless the fashion :)
Most of these people don't know what the hell "gluten" is in the first place. It'd be like avoiding carotenoids. Most people reading this comment have no idea what those are, but they're not something to avoid; in fact, most people could use more of them.
Why is everyone so crabby? Try gluten free - if it makes you feel better - GREAT! If it doesn't make you feel any different, then save your money and don't buy it. Simple. Everyone else should mind their own business. I tried it, and it seemed to make my aweful pain go away. My son has cold induced asthma. We changed his diet and everything seem great so far - and he is having a growth spurt. So please respect our right to choose and mind your own business. Do a bit of research yourself and learn how GMO grains has introduced a ton of new proteins. It may be a separate issue from gluten - but all the same - people think they are expert know it alls. Just mind your own business and stop trolling.
the problem is the fad is a money grab and is causing issues to people who need help. it also makes a lot of services more inconvenient. Everyone wants to be sick nowadays and its annoying as hell
Gabzo Avro it seems to me that if more people want to buy gluten free, there will be a larger market; meaning there will be more products produced for a wider selection, more alternatives. More competition. Ultimately cheaper products in the long run.
People? More like sheeple.
Gluten cannot be digested by your human stomach, so its not a nutrient. 70% of the population is genetically sensitive to gluten.
where did u get that stat huh?
@ Jeremy Nowack -- where do you get your wheat flour? Canada does not cultivate GMO wheat.
Unless you have Celiacs disease you don't need to avoid gluten. I didn't find out I was lactose intolerant until I was 55 and talked to my doctor. Now it's nut milks for my oatmeal.
See Canon If you have an allergy to gluten you also NEED to buy gluten free.
"There's no downside to going gluten free". Yeah, I bake my own bread. If I go gluten free, one of my favorite hobbies goes down the drain.
There are lots of mixes and straight recipes to make up from scratch. I can now enjoy 'occasional ' muffins, breads, crackers, pies, cakes, etc. They taste veeeery good. I also have to practice moderation and watch my sugars. With balance I can eat and be satisfied instead of running to the bathroom 20 times a day because I didn't have choices for safe foods.
I used to make bread daily for my family. I found out I have celiac's disease. So I feel guilty that I can't anymore, when I was kneading the bread but not eating it, I would still get blisters but no swelling of my body. They now have to eat store bought bread and my days dont seem right without waking early to make bread.
I love the female host, she always speaks her mind.
They forgot one important question .............
What are they replacing the gluten with?
LIVEFRMNYC you don’t replace the gluten...you replace the wheat. There’s tons of flour substitutes that work well for baking. Usually tapioca, black bean, oat flour, etc.
Pondering Life that’s your problem. That wasn’t the question, the question was what they’re replacing the gluten with. If you’re allergic, you don’t eat it.
Dear CBC, please make a marketplace about ADHD.
Thanks,
UA-camr.
Funny how human beings survived for tens of thousand of years eating gluten. Bread is delicious.
Mareșalul Alexandru Averescu. Maybe waiting until the peanut allergy went on vacation.
Mareșalul Alexandru Averescu. Just give me the FOODS! I am not allergic!
+garcemac We only domesticated grain 10,000 years ago, technically. And we didn't survive well on it. Ask any archaeologist what the skeletons of early farmers looked like.
exactly, but now all of a sudden its bad... people are just over eating, thats why they are unhealthy.
I can assure you that my twins's Celiac disease is not due to overeating.
Understanding history, connections and how it effects thyroid is far more important to understand.
It could be a more comprehensive "investigation".
Aside from Celiac disease, gluten is a complex protein that isn't easily digestible by MOST people, a protein is a long chain of amino acids strung together like a pearl. The stomachs job is to break the pearl and liberate the individual amino acids which are essential nutrients. BUT the chemical bond which holds the amino acids in gluten together..are VERY difficult for most peoples stomach acid to break which result in undigested protein. These amino acids then travel through the small intestines and get absorbed by the Villi. The Villi is finger-like projections that protrude from the epithelial lining of the intestinal wall which absorb nutrients and bring them into the blood stream. When the Villi grabs an individual broken down amino acid no problem. Again, GLUTEN is a complex protein which isn't easily broken down. When the Villi grabs onto a long complicated chain of unbroken amino acids.. the Villi gets destroyed or inflamed. Resulting in poor nutrient absorption. Aside from destroying your Villi, you will get protein plaquing, fermentation, and rancidifying of these undigested proteins in your intestines.. What happens over-time if your intestines are backed up with fermented garbage? Disease, bloating, acidosis, fatigue, weight gain, chronic constipation, ETC. If any of you pro-gluten heads want to debate, do your research first. To the rest of us health conscious, good work! God bless everyone on their journey to better health.
Humans have been eating grains containing gluten for thousands of years and even more so now and we are living longer. Even though there are many illnesses out there, humans have never been as healthy over all as we are today. Keep your crack pot theories to yourself and the other nuts and please stop trying to change the rest of us by preaching non stop when no one has asked for your opinion. It is fine to discuss it here, but outside of these types of forums, if no one asks, keep it to yourself please.
I can preach if I want to. I can also voice my opinion without being asked. If you don't like it, deal with it. I stated factual information based on scientific research. If you find a flaw in what I've stated I will retract and make corrections but I don't believe there are any. Sure, we consumed grains 10,000 years ago, we also didn't have mcdonalds, heavy metal pollution, gmos, pesticides, and the constant bombardment of junk in our foods that tax our bodies of the raw materials it needs to break proteins like gluten down, properly. Also, 10,000 years ago the food had more active enzymes and minerals which helped to break these gluten proteins into amino acids correctly. What might have been relevant to the times 10,000 years ago might not hold the same weight in current times with our poor agriculture processes. We might be living longer but that doesn't mean your quality of life (health) is better, especially when chronic diseases are more rampant than ever before historically. Do your research and think about it. I challenge anyone to stop eating gluten foods for an entire month or 28 days. Then on the 29th day, go out and eat all the gluten you desire, load up, see how you feel. ;) Not up to the challenge? Scared I'll prove you wrong? Hit me up in 28 days and be honest. PEACE.

*I can preach if I want to. I can also voice my opinion without being asked. If you don't like it, deal with it.*
Yes, you can. Just because you can do a thing does not mean you must do that thing, however.
*I stated factual information based on scientific research.*
No you did not. You regurgitated nonsense spouted by quacks, who want only one thing: make lots of money by usurping the gullibility of bored, uneducated middle-classers who desparately need to feel important.
You do not know what we did 10,000 years ago. Science goes only so far, and while we have a few glimpses, there is far more that we don't know, than there is that we do know. There are no records from those times, since humans had not yet acquired the ability to write. However, we do know, based on the scarce remains of those times, that life expectancy at birth was about 20 years.
In Canada, this is now over 80 years. For a civilisation that has supposedly totally poisoned itself, that's not a bad result. If you look into it, you will see that empty claims from ruthless quacks have somewhat less to do with this than the gradual progress made by the medical sciences.
Romanticism about a pure and natural past is just that: romanticism. It is great for novels, movies, quackery and other dreamy nonsense. For longevity and health, not so much.
I just read nothing but nonsense. So I stopped a quarter of the way. PEACE OUT AND GOD BLESS. GIVE IT UP!
1sikteg Maybe you should go offer a child to your god. Gods seem to like that type of thing.
I think more people are being diagnosed with Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity because more people suggest that they be tested for it. My aunt was diagnosed with Celiac only because she nearly forced her doctor to arrange for a biopsy. Studies show that diagnosed Celiac patients have gut flora that has very few Bifidobacterium spp. I've read a few articles acknowledging over and misuse of antibiotics. Because of this, more people are likely to develop the condition or a sensitivity. While there is a genetic link, it seems that with proper gastrointestinal flora, triggering the autoimmune response can be skirted.
I must also add that I read that probiotics containing bifidobacterium spp did not reverse the condition.
I think with our first world advancements, we've exposed ourselves to other ailments.
I have a feeling many loose (or at least used to) weight from a glutenfree diet because fatty foods like pizza, doughnuts and cupcakes contains gluten. Although, now that everything comes in a glutenfree option, that's not always the case anymore
I love it when people say they cut out gluten to lose weight. My sister has celiac disease and her daughter is mildly gluten intolerant. They aren't skinny. Fun fact, sugar is gluten free! Also, just like any other allergy, you can develop it later in life. So for SOME people, yes, a gluten free or a lower gluten diet can help them feel better (ie less bloating) just like lowering your milk intake (I am also lactose intolerant and have a mild milk allergy). But I think the bigger effect is when people go gluten free, they start eating healthier in GENERAL. Like more fresh veggies and fruit and less crap. Bread is good for you but we tend to eat too much and gluten free bread is expensive so you tend to eat less of it. Gluten is also used as a thickener so most canned goods are out and ready-to-eat sauces (even soy sauce!). Instead of buying that can of soup, you have to make your own at home. Homemade is always a healthier choice and always has less sodium and preservatives. So it isn't so much about gluten making you feel bad but the fact you are forced into making healthier food choices. Now if you end up getting bloated after every meal and having other digestive issues, EVERY DOCTOR is going to tell you to start cutting things out of your diet to find out what is triggering you. I wouldn't start with gluten though because that is a hard life style!
for some reason people that claim a gluten free diet is good for you piss me off, like can your ignorance get any higher?
GLUTEN HAS NO HEALTH BENEFITS. Not one.
But it causes plenty of health problems.
Jerky Bogis Gluten has been the main Ingredient in our ancestors' diet and all the sudden it's bad? The only reason there's a lot of people coming up with an allergy to gluten is because the recessive gene has made its way into light. Just like people who are lactose intolerant. Etc.
Irvin Gomez Gluten hasn't been an "ingredient" in our ancestors. Gluten only showed up in the 1930s with the advent of white flour and vegetable oils.
Gluten is IN WHEAT, but WHEAT IS NOT GLUTEN but the ancient varieties of wheat (called Einkorn) actually have very little gluten.Wheat and gluten are 2 different things, gluten is in wheat, but it is one of several proteins in wheat, and by far the most dangerous one.
The same way that a cake has eggs in it, but the cake itself is not an egg
So what health problems does gluten cause?
Jerky Bogis that's like saying the sugar they used to sweeten their stuff in BC is different from the sugar we use today.
If that woman thinks that another bank's ATMs are bad, the third party ATMs are even worse. Plus they can easily be hacked.
I use to think gluten free meant it wasn’t gmo wheat....today I think most wheat is genetically altered. Good vid to watch is “ The war on wheat “
At this trend is helping lot of people get gluten free food went I was kid I could own eat gluten free food or I get horrible stomach problems they so much and gluten free was super expensive and super hard to find for me
i actually have celiacs, easyest way to see if you have any sort of intolerance is to drink a beer, and if you get a head ache before a buzz like i you should stay away from bread,
Aleksay Nikolskiy ....id say you had a hangover not celiac.
See Canon
have you never been drinking? You get the hangover after the drinking and being drunk. Not before you've even gotten a buzz. If the hangover came before the buzz a lot fewer people would go drinking.
That can be wheat/yeast problems as well as gluten!
Aleksay Nikolskiy a headache is not a symptom of celiac. Anyone who drinks a cold one will get a headache which is called brain freeze
I throw up every time I drank beer n feel horrible bt it never happened with any other alcohol.....also suffered from series stomach problems and eczema for very long thinking I have delicate stomach I'm diagnosed with gluten intolerance........it makes sense now
a friend of mine can't eat gluten or she ends up in the hospital! So when I make my almond milk, I roast the almond meal at 170 degrees in oven, cool down and process into Almond flour for her to use in baking things for herself!!!
but that does not have any gluten like protein to make this flour work like normal one unfortanetelly :c i am sad for celiaks cause they cannot eat that tasty and wonderfull gluten thats present in my wholegrain tasty veggie pizza and crafty alive beer...
+Hideki Shinichi true 😂 im celiac when i discivered my allergie iwas like remembering all the moments i ate that crispy pizza and those sandwiches 😂😂 anyway it's nt the end of the worlds eveyryone have a kid of allergie tho plus we can make pizza amd all the thinks it's just we change the ingrediens that causes problems
I have not celiac disease, however suffered from pains all over the body, tiredness and slow.metabolism. Quiting wheat flour products made this symptoms disapear. How to explain? The wheat today has thirty times the gluten amount that it had fifty years ago, because the selective croping technics. Maybe my body does not deal well with such daily cargo of gluten.
+AminasDream If removing wheat from your diet cured you, then gluten is probably not the problem, as wheat is not the only thing containing gluten. Have you been checked for wheat allergy? That can be a very bad allergy. Hope you find out :)
+AminasDream gluten sensitivity
+Charlotte Lien Sure. I mean wheat 'cause it was the main ingredient with gluten in my old diet. But 'll follow your suggestion. Thanks
+AminasDream Wheat has the highest and most harmful "type" of gluten. It's true you may just be allergic to wheat but it could be that you allergic/intolerant to the level of this type of gluten mostly found in grains, but again...highest in wheat.
+Charlotte I was going to say the same. My father-in-law has a wheat allergy but he can eat gluten. I don't think people realize all the different aspects of foods as these fads come about.
i actually found out about what gluten and celiac is because one of my classmates got it back in 2014 and did a presentation about it because she didn't wanna explain to everyone individually why she can't have theie food.
was actually quite interesting and when she had her birthday i baked her gluten free muffins which was a pain back then bc gluten free flour was almost impossible to find
It is unfortunate that people don't understand what gluten is and how it can effect or not effect your health. Despite the annoying fad, all the unhealthy, over-abundant gluten free products and the ignorance of people, keep an open mind and take a look at the latest peer review findings about gluten and its effect on the immune system in individuals outside of the spectrum of celiac.
+Mark Zajac exactly...there is a MAJOR link with gluten and autoimmune symptoms. I even thought I had lupus until my doctor did test to find out I was highly gluten sensitive. They even say everyone with an autoimmune disease should get tested for gluten sensitivity since the symptoms can be so similar.
Great channel, very informative and helpful. Please broadcast in the US and show them how to do it right.
You should thank the trend for "forcing" manufacturers to make a variety of products instead of whining about it.
But the cost .. because it has turned into a "fad" is being made more expensive which is a shame. It should be in the same category as diabetic foods.
Pretty sure it was always expensive. Being a fad just introduced more competition.
Not when that Trend makes it more dangerous for our family to eat outside of our home because people don't listen about how seriously we have to take it
not if they up the prices 50-100% based on a lie. sorry I totally disagree.
they take up precious slots in the supermarket that could actually have cheaper, good food :P
You give journalism a good name ...
also, cheap food is cheap for a reason because it is rubbish for you!
so you thing gluten free is better for you??
+Agames 12 you could say that! #glutenfreeallergies
No, it's cheap because the materials don't cost that much. #yourenotceliacsodonttakeadvantageoftheirdebilitatingdiseasethusgivingmoremoneytogreedycorporatistswholiketoplayonfads
KyleBuschPackFan Spot on dude!
Home made real food can be way cheaper than processed food, and definitely better for you.
I work at a gluten free bakery called debys. I do not need to be gluten free and still do eat gluten sometimes. However I have a acid reflux disease called GERD. Since working there and since eating the food I make my acid reflex has greatly decreased. I use to vomit multiple times a day and would be lucky to keep any food down what so ever. Now however I get to work and eat right away and am normally ok the rest of the day. It has drastically helped and considering I can't control my vomiting and there has been a dramatic decrease since being most gluten free that's proff enough for me that there are more benifits than we may know. Yes most of our customers are celiac not all but probably around 80%-90% and I'm not saying it's nessissarally healthier because I know how much sugar we use lol but there are many benifits as well but it does not replace eating veggtibles and fruite as well as exercising. Udis also tried to hire my bosses company to work for them but my manager refused wanting to make more than just bread to stubstane a celiacs complete diet considering Her and her whole family are ceilacs. Also I hear so many complaints about utis saying how dry their bread is and how much better ours is. So if you are celiac you should consider trying debys gluten free. We ship to any where just call and order. :)
Modern bread is soft. Why? It sticks to your teeth.
23 years ago, I taught a student who had celiac disease and that was the first I had heard of this problem. What a nightmare taking her camping was (for her). Her food was all made by her mother and had to be kept separate. Mom tried to follow our menu so the gal would fit in, but the effort involved was immense and the creativity, impressive. When I see GF 'bread' advertised, I am hesitant. This girl didn't just modify her bread, she ate something in place of bread and spaghetti etc. I think she remained healthy because she wasn't tempted to try something that may still make her sick despite being advertised as GF.
Some people have no choice!
Sabine Beaudry SUPPORTED! (It's true.)
So I actually have a thyroid disease, Hachimoto's, and after a doctor suggested my Aunt, who also had a similar thyroid issue, to go gluten free, I also tried it (I've been fully gluten free for years, since like 2012). It does seem to help (I would tend to feel heavy, tired, and have massive headaches and it settled down some after going gluten free, I even recall trying non gluten free cupcakes at work often when I first started gluten free, and being super awful after eating said non-gluten free cupcakes and eventually decided it was time to go full gluten free because headaches really aren't worth the cupcake) and from what I have read there seems to be sort of science behind it (something about your body attacks the thyroid and gluten can confuse it in a similar way), but people focus on celiac and whenever I try to explain it, they don't get it and think I'm making it up. I too sometimes start to wonder if I just missed something else. It's been awhile since I went gluten free and at first I think I had issues finding gluten free items, especially those that tasted good, and so was stuck eating foods that were gluten free naturally which were in generally pretty healthy options and less processed (I also lived with my Aunt for the summer when I started and let's just say that I was introduced to healthy foods my family would have never eaten). I have since started double guessing if it was the gluten or just processed, sugary things in general as more sugary and processed products become available and I get excited and try them, I see problems come back (I even after a suggestion from a nutritionist went on a low glycemic diet and it seemed to have a similar effect, but nothing is ever perfect). So I wonder if that was where the hype came from, gluten free products were at one point a bit healthier. I don't regret going gluten free though, it made me way more aware of what was in my products and I also have legit nut allergies to watch for, but the more it comes up lately, the more I am starting to rethink it for just a low processed diet. But I do wish I knew for sure if gluten free for Thyroid is legit or not, but it's hard to weed through the articles these days with the fad circling. *Note: I guess I realized this video was from 2014 and I just saw it now in 2019.
Well some people actually are allergic to it :/
MagicOfTaco I am
MagicOfTaco
I am allergic to wheat. Its easier for me to go 100% gluten free instead of just finding baked stuff/pasta without wheat.
I wish we had a show like this in the U.S 😞
Don't go gluten free. Go grain free. Gluten free bread is total garbage.
+Eric K That's why I have looked Into other things and I ended up finding bread such has paleo
+Eric K Good luck making bread without grain.
It has worked for me!
It is tremendous.
Every time I eat something with wheat or bread, I'm in the bathroom.
I tried no wheat/bread.
I haven't been sick once!
My Nana gave me a sandwich as I visited her.
Came home...in the bathroom.
Next day, I was CRAZY anxious, nervous, and depressed.
I was blaming it on the heat - my Mom said it wasn't hot out.
Remembered I ate wheat the night before...
I felt fine after that day.
THEN I did this again accidentally... I didn't think it would harm me.
That bathroom experience was insanely crazy an hour after eating.
I actually got fired from my last job due to not going to lunch the second as I was told (I called back a customer). Before that, I was talked to twice about my long lunches. I was embarrassed.
I eat hamburger meat ALL the time without the bread and I feel fascinatingly beautiful afterwards. The minute I eat something with bread, I'm in the bathroom.
This only gets worse if I drink milk (or coffee with creamer).
I'm hyperactive AS F...
I have been disruptive since first grade.
I can't sit still, poor organization, etc.
I have dermatitis herpetiformis (mild) and only on my back of my elbows and now on my forearm.
The cause of this?
Sensitivity to gluten.
I stopped eating gluten/wheat and it's gone away.
I will continue to not eat gluten/wheat no matter how long 'human beings have survived eating bread' as 'garcemac' mentioned in their comment.
at 11:42 that guy's chest is sweating like Niagara Falls
I used to refer to myself as gluten-free, because I was cutting out unnatural processed carbs, then all the products came out that have double the carb content than regular gluten containing products... Which I wouldn't eat anyway because they're processed foods... Now i call myself HFLC... I eat low carb vegetables, berries, nuts, eggs, dairy, and meat. So now people say I'm on Atkins... So many people with uninformed opinions on how I should live my life, and what I should eat.... All I have to say is that the leading next gen drug to treat diabetes is Invokana, it robs your body of glucose and forces you into ketosis. This can be accomplished by simple diet changes... Lower carb intake to below 80 grams a day, add natural fats like butter, cold pressed olive oil, lard, beef tallo, and coconut oil to your diet, and adequate protein... Look at that, you "cured" your diabetics... But no, sell a drug that does it for you, with side effects... And tell people the diet changes are bad...
+Adam Vallee Recently I've checked my stomach and discovered that I have mild gastrits due to low acid production. But imagine what the doctor told me to take? Omeprazol!!! Without even talk to me about my regular diet habits! I have not took the junk medicines prescribed and now I am treating my problem with a nutrologist, based on diet and natural medicines. I feel great!
I prefer extra gluten.
The paper bill charge is not dumb. you have a bill online you want paper then pay for it. this helps the environment and helps companies
How is gluten free a "trend" ffs.
+FoolyLiving
Because of marketing hype, like any other trend?
+FoolyLiving because around 90% or more of the people who claim to have it don't actually have it and suddenly don't mind it being in gravy or beer.
Finding this in 2020 and not much has changed with what people hear and just go with. I do not have Celiac Disease but my wife has issues with gluten. She has not been diagnosed with it though. Her Chiropractor recommended that she change her diet and that worked. This was after many doctors visits and eye surgery. So I started researching and that is how I found out about Celiac Disease. Amazing what you can find out when you just read and think about what you've read. And I never trust what a face of a brand says....they get paid to tell you that...
well for the people who acualy is alergic isent this good that its trendy as there is more gluten free products
Not really because I have celiac disease and now that its more trendy the prices of gluten free food is expensive. When I go to the store and buy bread it about 5 to 6 dollars, also the bread is usually smaller that normal bread.
Its just taking one product and changing it into something else. I never fell for the gluten free trend. If you have a health problem that makes you sick, then yes eat gluten free. And they charge more for it, if there is a huge trend, they will make huge money off of it.
I have celiac's and I don't usually buy those gf items. I have a loaf of gf bread in the freezer for cravings of bread. Usually I just have potatoes, rice, or rice noodles as a carb. You can get away with not buying those prepackaged items if people change eating habits.
and that's marketing!
All these modern intolerance /allergic to food it is just crazy! I am 48 years old and I remember in school and growing up in my family that is huge, I never met or heard anyone talking about lactose, peanuts, gluten etc... I wonder what is causing all that!
Great piece, hopefully this can dissuade some of the gluten free nonsense.
Its not nonsense as so much as the science behind gluten sensitivity is proven and established medical literature. But what is nonsense is some of the marketing hype behind foods that "claim" to be gluten free and are not. These are just a money grabbing exercise.
People that are trying to avoid gluten however are doing themselves a world of good, its a matter of knowing how to go about it, and not buying into fads like some gluten free pizza and snack foods and expecting results. Avoid rice, milk, wheat, yeast, corn starches, grains, processed foods etc. There are many millions of americans undiagnosed gluten sensitive individuals. Hell I would say more than 90% of obese people are already immuno compromised and pretty much gluten sensitive because of years of careless eating. Which basically like diabetes is a disease you can get through lifestyle.
You can say gluten sensitivity is this century's new diabetes. And we are only starting to scratch the surface. There are still so many undiscovered gluten similar proteins that also cause cross reaction and give gluten symptoms (leaky gut, bloating, Irritable bowel syndrom, reflux) So if anything, knowledge is power. So go out and inform yourself.
I am quite happy that more people want to eat gluten free. It means that the companies are now making a cool variety that we celiacs now have that we didn't have before. The truth is that if you suffer from IBS reducing gluten CAN make you feel less bloated but it is not a cure and not a replacement for medication that you may take. All of the rest of you ...... you're being conned but if your happy with that carry on it means that there is more choice out there than ever before. So thank you xxx
He ehh reh.... said to his HUSBAND???
Yup :)
a wha...?
I have Celiac's disease and I tell you it's manageable. My weight has no effect on what I chose to eat. I can still gain weight by eating non-gluten products. Being truly gluten free means that your body can't take in certain enzymes found in gluten. When you have Celiac's, your body will react to gluten and will try to get rid of it. Some people will constipate and others will vomit. When I eat gluten, I usually vomit for a few hours and get a fever. I tell you it isn't fun.
For me going gluten-free was very good. I've got rid of the acne that I've had for 15 years since 16, and for my Hashimoto's it was areal saver. My ATPO antibodies dropped from 1444 to 536 after 7 weeks without gluten. So what they're saying does not apply for people with autoimmune diseases and even acne.
This show is the best
I don't know why celiac people are complaining about the fad. Thanks to the fad, you now have way more gluten free options. I'm not celiac but gluten sensitive and am grateful for the trend.
They mentioned nothing in this about non-celiac gluten sensitivity, which is a real medical issue for some. Monash University says going gluten-free can help reduce symptoms in some people with IBS.
Also, any convenience food is going to be expensive. People on gluten-free diets can eat rice, corn, oats, potatoes, ect, which are cheap and healthy.
