    What’s good bro, I’m up here in Wisconsin, we used to the cold weather. This time of the year I use my insulated vertical smoker and my Kamados . Holding temp is not a issue for either , and the best thing is I’m not running back and forth it’s set it and forget it ! I use my offset when the elements are favorable and I feel like being up all night tending to a fire . I strongly encourage people to look into insulated vertical smokers they are very nice and convenient.

    I normally use about the same amount of wood but split into smaller pieces. I stack them "log cabon" style and then dump my chimney of charcoal into the middle to start.This gives me more of a live fire vs coals because of the increased surface area. I have to add fuel more often but can reach 275 easier....... And after wrapping, if it's cold, I can finish the cook in the oven.

    Great video.. I've always wondered about smoking in the extreme cold. I'm in Virginia and the weather is funny here, I've smoked in kinda cold weather and did notice it used more fuel... however i mostly smoke in the summer time..0hh and I did use hotter burning wood when it was cold out... that helps alot 👍🏾👍🏾

    A fiberglass fire blanket laid over the smoke chamber helps on those cold cook days. Good video. Thanks

    Hey JB! That is crazy how much ice and cold weather you guys are getting down there. I give you credit for doing this!
    Nice job showing what it takes for your pit to maintain temps. The only thing I would recommend, in any weather, is to
    break the splits down into smaller slivers. Smaller slivers of splits ignite quicker for that cleaner burn we all want. Sure it
    will take more work, to maintain that hot coal base, adding smaller splits more frequently but it's worth it not to have that
    over smoked BBQ you hate. Also looks like you need a new fire box grate. That doesn't help you contain and maintain the
    hot coal base. Metal On My Brother! \🔥/

      Wassup brother. Yeah I have some smaller splits that use but didn’t want to waste them for the video lol. That grate I have was just for this video I never use it. I have since ordered a new one that I’m trying to keep in tact. Lol. It was fun making this video. Wasn’t that bad I’ve been in worse. Thanks for watching bro! 👍🏽

      Get your temp 50 or 75 degrees above where you normally smoke at and maintain the temperature from a higher temperature as it lowering to the temperature you want. Hot and fast works too.

    Hey, I've smoked in cold weather on a Weber like grill. Add in wood is one solution. I used blankets to minimize heat loss. Also you need less air as it gets colder, because the air gets colder.
    On diesels in the arctic the inlet air is preheated. If you could pre heat the air going into your burn box, you would need less wood. Nitrogen is heavier than oxygen and is 78% of air. It has to be heated to 225 degrees before you can heat the smoke chamber. By preheating the air you are not wasting heat on the nitrogen.
    So add a blanket to the top smoker and try to pre heat your air

    Wood splits are a little big for that size cooker. Smaller splits will create better
    coal bed faster.

    I’m on Maryland an it’s an ice storm here just smoked some rids. I added more charcoal then wood to keep my smoker going

    Ok, but you can use heat insulation blanket for the smoker, when temperature is about -10F -20F

    Get rid of that coal grate you have I feel that is restricting you from have a really good burning fire as you are trying to keep it in one little spot rather than letting your fire burn free and fall were ever it needs to
