For the melt cosmetics just a heads up the pans are magnetic so you can always swap shades from palette to palette and if it expires you can always refill it with a color story you don’t care for the packaging 😊
Ohh that’s a great idea! I did know they were magnetic but it definitely hadn’t occurred to me before that I could swap in non-expired shades to make a custom color story. Thank you! ☺️
I got one of the good formula Subcultures and it set the bar for pigmentation and colour stories. I still go back to it on special occasions but I don't want to pan it as I know that it's discontinued. So I built up my grungy singles and my collection grew from there 🤩🤩
Solid strategy!! I have the same mentality with most of my palettes, I could never be a project panner because I wanna keep them all around for as long as I can 😜 and I’m glad you got your hands on one of the good ones haha, so weird how hit or miss that one was
@@gothadjacent I don't know how people pan whole palettes I would go stir crazy and start creating bizarre stuff....like a grunge version of the taped off eye band people are doing..... actually that sounds like something fun to try
It’s mainstream, but NARS’ 6 pan, Holiday release called Provocateur-it’s by far my most used palette. It’s old as dirt but idc. The color story rocked my world AND flatters my coloring. 😏
This video made me soooo nostalgic! I loved your choices. ❤ Some palettes that altered my brain chemistry: Coloured Raine Vivid Pigments palette (I hit pan in almost EVERY shade & I bought a second palette because of the incredible saturation of color), Glamlite Chucky palette (the cool toned gothic palette of my dreams), & BH Cosmetics Sweet Shoppe Cherry On Top palette (still my favorite reds to this day).
Yaaay I’m happy to have shared this stroll down memory lane 😄 I always wanted to try Coloured Raine, specifically their Safari Raine palette :0 and ooo those are some lovely red based palettes in your list! I still haven’t dipped into my Chucky palette but it really is iconic!!
@gothadjacent Based on your color preferences, you would love the Safari Raine palette. I own almost every palette the brand has released. They are so underrated. They recently brought the Safari Raine back, so it's available on their site. They run sales pretty often, so you could get it at a great price, even though it's totally worth $25. 😉
@@becca3115 omgggg I didn’t know they brought it back!!! This is definitely an interesting development 😏 and good to know the formula is good too! And $25 is very reasonable
The palette that really sticks out to me is the Limecrime Venus eyeshadow palette and from there ABH Modern Rennissance and J* Blood Sugar. I decluttered the LC Venus, but I have Limecrime Greatest Hits Bangers eyeshadow palette. That colorstory is repeated over and over, the Modern Rennissance has remained a top favorite all these years and I am on my 3rd one.
Haha yeah I typically go a year or so past the expiry date but I think my OG Muerte is almost 6 years old so I said “yknow what it’s probably time 🤔” 🤪😂 but to be fair I’m especially wary with Melt since their Gemini palette and smoke sessions palette back in the day starting actually growing things ._. Luckily it didn’t happen to me personally (because I didn’t have either of those two palettes lol) but I will never forget the videos that came out about it 😖
Muerte is such a fave.. i love the gothic tones.. I did my video regarding the indie brands that have blown my mind and why i am an indie lover vs mainstream.. thanks for doing this collab with me.. you have great choices :o)
I love this premise! Subculture CALLED to me just as I was getting into makeup (slightly post release/chaos). I heard it was terrible to work with and I had no idea what I was doing and I just.didn't.care. I found it at tj maxx and learned how to do eyeshadow the hard way (beautiful colors but not ones that I like on myself + zero knowledge of color theory haha). I have such a soft spot in my heart for subculture. Not sure she changed my brain chemistry (except for never doing that again), but I was ticked that that's what you led with.
So glad you enjoyed the idea for this vid!! 🖤 And haha I suppose influencing what you *dont* do or like also counts as altering your brain chemistry 🤔 Amen to learning to do makeup with colors you don’t like on yourself- I hate wearing 99% of orange shades and yet one of the very first palettes I had was a Wet n Wild one with quite a few oranges and browns in it (actually now that I’m thinking back on it, I think it was a recommended dupe for Modern Renaissance back in the day funnily enough!)
I have most of these palettes. 😅 I have more in the same vein, as well. The Lime Crime Venus II and the J* Androgyny started it for me, and imo inspired ABH Subculture. 💚
Newer viewer here! Modern Renaissance is still such a hit for me. I should probably replace it with a new palette. But also All That from Colourpop has a beautiful, deep color story to it. Another I should throw away but I don’t think they are bringing it back so I’m holding onto it until I know for sure. And one more! It’s newer but Huda Beauty’s Pretty Grunge is far more versatile than at first glance. It’s been a go to since I got it 🤩
Isamaya industrial and industrial 2.0. After purchasing those recently, it’s very hard to go back. Nothing else compares! You can layer shimmers and mix colors to your heart’s desire, and even make your own colors.
I’m really intrigued by Isamaya as a whole!! Most recently it’s been their lip products. But their palettes have always piqued my interest too, just a bit above what I’m willing to spend on a single palette 🫣 but maybe one day I can catch a good sale haha. Out of the two, do you have a strong favorite?
I am so glad the yt algorithm brought me here! This was a cute idea for a video! I think the palettes that altered my brain chemistry are good sport from colourpop, melt's maryjane and the gemini twins (sweet band name lol) and surge from blend bunny. I have so many grungy palettes, a lot of rose and olive tones, but I also love to add in bright colors with lots of depth. One day I might do burgundy and the next day may be bright orange and turquoise lol. I really love how subtle melt's shimmers are. A nod to back in the day where the shimmers were more of a satin formula, perfect for truly grunge looks imo. But when I want to be visible from space, I'll choose adept or unearthly or something similar.
Genius idea and we seem to have the same/similar influences on our brain chemistry! For me it's mostly 'the ones that got away' because they were before my time: Subculture, Muerte, Beauty Bay Age of Opulence and Book of Magic (hence current obsession with blue-green-purple colour stories). I also love plums and mauves, not sure which the first palette I got like this was (I think the Maybelline rosy nudes which is awful quality), but I've since got Melt She's in parties and at least another 8 mauve/plum/burgundy palettes! Finally, grungy blue-green-purple, didn't get Unearthly Arcana but got Lois Meet me in the Underworld and I think the first Colourpop Hocus Pocus collab is similar vibes.
Ooo same tastes for sure!! I had She’s In Parties and Age of Opulence at one point as well, and the Lois Underworld and the CP Hocus Pocus too actually. Quite a few in common indeed!
I follow you on instagram (fairly recently) and did not know you had a youtube channel, this video just showed up in my recommendations and I am pleased that it did, I really enjoyed this video. I love a deep plummy purple, periwinkle is one of the colours that make my heart sing, I find the one in the It's freaking bats not the colour I'm reaching for, I think my favourite is still the periwinkle in BH blueberry muffin
This is a great video idea and I love cnut! I saw a short of you using that necromancy palette. It is beyond cute and your looks were amazing. Those wet and wilds were pretty. Juvias Place palettes tend to pose a challenge for me and I kinda like that lol there is also a large palette by an indie brand (Playing in Makeup by Yolondo) , the Relentless palette, is the perfect black girl rainbow palette, it blows my mind every time . Also Danessa’s Lightwork collection is magical!
I absolutely adore this video! I’ve just found your channel and I cannot wait to see more from you! I think I may need to do a video like this on my channel ❤❤

I literally JUST decluttered my Subculture palette in my last declutter...mere months ago.
I can't bring myself to do it so that baby just sits on my shelf. 😅
Hahaha further evidence that baby had/has so many of us in a chokehold!!!
Real
I love the subculture palette. lol also call me disgusting but I don’t get rid of my old makeup unless they start smelling funny or grow things lol

I actually prefer the original one. It’s more grungy, whereas the 2.0 is brighter. I got a teensy bit of a discount by signing up for their emails.😊❤
The ghost face glamlite palette is one that altered my taste
