The ART of defence it is just beautiful to watch I miss the old days. Yes R9 was probably one of the greatest strikers ever but even he had nightmares facing those defenders at times he got owned and at times he owned them because top strikers only managed to score 20 plus goals and it shows how tough this league was in comparison to other europeon leagues they would have 30 plus goals.
I still miss seeing Nesta. One of the few players who got me hooked to football. His reading of the game was amazing and I could probably watch a compilation of his crazy tackles for days without break. That's how much of an amazing player he was, in my eyes.
cannavaro is good but nesta is better defender, cannavaro lost his place to ivan cordoba in inter and when he play for juventus the best central defender for juventus is thuram, while nesta always the best central defender for lazio and milan he just unlucky with several injuries. when nesta in his peak i never saw any defender better than him. people said that nesta is best central defender after baresi in italy.
@@ultimatexi7491, overall i agree but for central defender nesta is the best, maldini spend most of his career as left defender and he move to center position after he get old (30+) not as fast as his younger day but maldini provide leadership and discipline for defence. when jaap stam come to milan 2004 milan starter in defence is maldini as left defender, nesta and jaap stam as central defender and cafu as right defender. nesta and cannavaro is best duo in central defence, they complement each other very well.

Cuánta belleza en un solo video! Defender es un arte subestimado por la mayoría de los aficionados al futbol, incapaces de reconocer que la genialidad de un gran gol es proporcional a la defensa que debió superar.
Sadly, many of those involved in football these days, especially fans, have no idea about the art (and guile) of defending like these titans. Very few defenders from the current era come close to any of these legends in terms of defending ability
The rules have changed, physical contact is way less allowed and so defense is more about parking the bus that trying to tackle and go for a counter, that's why there are many teams that play high posses football because they have the time on the ball now a thing that with a man on man marking you werent allowed
because defending and pressing become collective responsibilities nowadays not just defenders. one player need to have many aspects besides their positions to cover space when build up/defending now a striker need to have a defending aspect to pull back, pressing defenders (or tackle them) and build up attack to the teammates.. that's why it is called advance forward
@@wasigupitobudiarto7767 True. Defending today is much more a matter of making the team on the ball doubt themselves and pass the ball back to try a new angle, so there's less pressure on the centrebacks' and wing backs' shoulders. You can even virtually count with the fingers on one hand the numbers of attempted sliding tackles in a typical top league match today. Some of the tackles in the video are no longer allowed, and players have received yellows and reds for, even if it played the ball first, because the follow through are considered dangerous plays.

KxngAnubis you’re right but the problem is with consistency. All these teams I’ve listed have legends in certain position across all of their generations. But teams like France, Netherlands, Argentina...etc have legends in certain positions at a certain time but not all the time. For example Netherlands like u said had great legends in midfield and attack like Cruyff, Kluivert, Frank Ricard but now there are no big names.
Imagine if Italy had ever played a tournament with this defensive line up: GK: Buffon FULLBACKS: Zambrotta, Maldini CENTRAL BACKS: Nesta, Cannavaro DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD DUO: De Rossi, Gattuso. And they could have play like that in certain years.
Maldini, Nesta, Bergomi, Tassotti, Costacurta, cannavaro.. Baresi the best from the lot of them. There is so many more that don’t make this vid such was the high level of defenders in Italy at the time. It is no coincidence that a lot of this legendary players played during the peak of Serie A’s power in European football from 89-99
@@michelepes6903 many people forget to mention scirea as one of the best. Baresi often played from the bench in italian nation team before scirea retired. That is a solid proof that scirea is one of the best in italian history.
easy to spot Nesta in the compilation, most elegance and class :D Cannavaro was flashy and more famous for a while, but Nesta was more reliable all the time. If you watch a compilation of his goals, you wonder why he wasn't an offensive midfielder. He just goes trough 4-5 players without a sweat, just to pass the ball at the end. And even more impressive that I can't remember ever seeing him lose a ball.
No there isnt, check italian league scorers, you cant one vs 4 the back cause the back will cut you down to pieces and i'm not just talking about strong teams, Ronaldo's runs works in champions but not in serie A, check some games against 'low tier teams'
Historically La Liga is a tournament where teams are heavily focused on attacking, while Serie A is the opposite. Vieri: 97-98 - Atletico Madrid: 31 games 29 goals 98-99 - Lazio: 28 games 14 goals R9: 96-97- Barcelona: 49 games 47 goals 97-98 - Inter: 47 games 34 goals CR7: 2017-2018 - Real Madrid: 44 games 44 goals 2018-2019 - Juventus: 43 games 28 goals You wanna tell me that one can decrease his scoring rate so much from one year to another just for aging? The difference is crazy. Top scorers in La Liga with more than 30 goals from 2000 to 2020: 10 players Same in Serie A: 2, probably 3 with Ciro Immobile at the end of this season. We'll never know for sure cause Messi won't ever play in Italy, but almost every striker that played a year in Spain and the year after (or before) in Italy scored more in La Liga.

Damn that slide and scoop maneuver, Maldini's signature move. It's so nice to see
Amazing when maldini steal the ball with sliding tackle. Happy is simple :)
Great video, now a second video including Bonucci an Chiellini's masterclass at Euro 2020.
italys food and defenders are most amazing. just enjoy it.
Nesta +maldeni +Baressi👌👌👌😍
@@ultimatexi7491 nesta was 10 times better than cannavaro
@@ultimatexi7491 nesta play in 2006 but he was injured
MALDINI AND BARESI ARE CORRECT!
cannavaro is good but nesta is better defender, cannavaro lost his place to ivan cordoba in inter and when he play for juventus the best central defender for juventus is thuram, while nesta always the best central defender for lazio and milan he just unlucky with several injuries. when nesta in his peak i never saw any defender better than him. people said that nesta is best central defender after baresi in italy.
One of my best days in my life was when Italy defeated french fries in world cup final 2006. Grazie Italia 👍
That was a bad game lol what are you talking about? Italy provoked Zidane by insulting his sister because they knew it was the only way they could win. Sure enough they succeeded, but it was a dirty game from both sides and embarrassing for the sport
@@muncheez2553 With all due respect to Zidane who is my favorite player, but french don't deserve him. They took it out on him after they lost a final, they just forgot what he had achieved with France....98World cup and Euro 2000.
@@Mezomo2009 Yes you are very right. Zidane carried France for a long time. But hey, France of today is much more collective and solid altogether. They don't just have one player carrying them.

@@patrickstar6693 pasta has 4 stars in case you forget. Ikea or french fries combined are half way to reach pasta. Show respect to the goodness of Football
In 2006 Italy taken 2 goals: 1 penalty (very doubt) an 1 by herself (Zaccardo). Pratically the opponents never scored against Italy.
Yes
Cannavaro went down as 1 of the greatest defender of all time while only being 175 cm tall, absolute legend
Size doesn't matter. Most people just use it as an excuse for underachieving.💪💪
Nesta has the best defensive abilities of any footballer I’ve ever seen in my life. And I’ve been watching football for 30 years
So funny when some idiots campare him to dirty 1 like Ramos
Sooooo true! And the elegance?Like Cannavaro against Germany world cup.
Back when Italy conceded goals only from Penalty and own goal. 2006 world cup.
Chiellini and godin are few of them
because defending and pressing become collective responsibilities nowadays not just defenders. one player need to have many aspects besides their positions to cover space when build up/defending
now a striker need to have a defending aspect to pull back, pressing defenders (or tackle them) and build up attack to the teammates.. that's why it is called advance forward
@@jacobpedersen-banovcinyear2965 don't u ever pls nooooooo
It's truly amazing how many great Italian defenders there has been. Baresi by a nose, but Cannavaro, Maldini and Nesta inseparable.

Looking at those tackles and challenges back then makes me realise how soft football has become today
Most of those tackles would be fouls and yellow cards today
Yeah we live in sonwflakes time. Nothing you van do about it.

Greatest defenders of history football.
Still remember how Italy won the World Cup in 2006, Cannavaro was scary and Buffon was possessed by Spiderman. Great memories.
Imagine if Italy had ever played a tournament with this defensive line up:
GK: Buffon
FULLBACKS: Zambrotta, Maldini
CENTRAL BACKS: Nesta, Cannavaro
DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD DUO: De Rossi, Gattuso.
And they could have play like that in certain years.
It happened in the Milan team of 1989 to 1995

easy to spot Nesta in the compilation, most elegance and class :D Cannavaro was flashy and more famous for a while, but Nesta was more reliable all the time. If you watch a compilation of his goals, you wonder why he wasn't an offensive midfielder. He just goes trough 4-5 players without a sweat, just to pass the ball at the end. And even more impressive that I can't remember ever seeing him lose a ball.
italy always a land of great defenders and goalkeepers

This is why Italy was my 2nd country at the time of world cup🔥

@@kmezinjo3719 yep ....messi & ronaldo gets better and better with time ....tecnically period
No there isnt, check italian league scorers, you cant one vs 4 the back cause the back will cut you down to pieces and i'm not just talking about strong teams, Ronaldo's runs works in champions but not in serie A, check some games against 'low tier teams'
When football is passion. Not for money... They were stronger than now
Historically La Liga is a tournament where teams are heavily focused on attacking, while Serie A is the opposite.
Vieri:
97-98 - Atletico Madrid: 31 games 29 goals
98-99 - Lazio: 28 games 14 goals
R9:
96-97- Barcelona: 49 games 47 goals
97-98 - Inter: 47 games 34 goals
CR7:
2017-2018 - Real Madrid: 44 games 44 goals
2018-2019 - Juventus: 43 games 28 goals
You wanna tell me that one can decrease his scoring rate so much from one year to another just for aging? The difference is crazy.
Top scorers in La Liga with more than 30 goals from 2000 to 2020: 10 players
Same in Serie A: 2, probably 3 with Ciro Immobile at the end of this season.
We'll never know for sure cause Messi won't ever play in Italy, but almost every striker that played a year in Spain and the year after (or before) in Italy scored more in La Liga.
Old school. Awesome
