When I was even younger I remember looking at those apartments under construction and going to mira mesa now I'm 11 the same apartments are done being built.
Love your content! It’s a unique passion but I like being taken along for the ride. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos! Would love to see some more Midwestern states! Kansas Oklahoma etc
Used to live in Socal, and I LOVE driving the freeway whenever it is empty after rush-hour subsides. Dusk is by far the best time to be on a California freeway, right about when the "sky's on fire". Set cruise control to 65 and put on some suitable tunes as your soundtrack.
What was your opinion of the I-8/I-805 interchange, assuming you got a chance to see it from the bottom level? One of my favorite interchanges in the world; seeing I-805 run through there on the top level through the canyon is a sight to behold!
That interchange is epic. The view from I-8 is similarly spectacular. The ramps between I-8 and I-15 slingshot around nicely too, and are great fun to drive through. San Diego is one of my favourite US cities. I'm debating a return in the Spring 2018, but I haven't decided yet.
FreewayBrent it’s rare to find someone like you, who finds appreciation in interchanges so amazing. I pass the I-8 / I-805 junction multiple times a week, and I still think it’s a beast of an infrastructure project.
I know the freeway in the video is interstate 805 but why doesn’t interstate 405 connect both Los Angeles and San Diego. The freeway signage on interstate 405 reads San Diego but ends at interstate 5 north of Bake parkway in Irvine. Was interstate 405 ever intended to connect both San Diego and Los Angeles.
So I’ve noticed that in SoCal, they changed the lane marker for the Carpool/HOV lane from double yellow to double white… does that have any difference?
There is no difference. I believe California used to have an exemption from the US MUTCD for the yellow lines but the FHWA changed the rules about state supplements to the US MUTCD so California had to adopt the white federal standard. Personally, I preferred the aesthetic of the yellow lines.
I take the photos myself while driving. I have a camera lens that has a heavy zoom lens that doesn't adjust its focal length when either I move maneuver the camera, or turn the camera on or off, so they are pretty easy to capture.
I've long been a highway nerd, so I've had a pretty extensive photo collection of road signs before I started taking road videos, so using photos instead of graphics is a lot easier for me than it would be to learn how to generate graphics.
That's a very nice video, good that the pavement markers and freeway signs have been improved since.

Your signs look really nice! Were they captured with a separate camera?
yeah, I use a second camera and photograph the signs using another digital camera.
how do you do that? do you have a seperate person in the car snapping those with the other camera?
I take the photos myself while driving. I have a camera lens that has a heavy zoom lens that doesn't adjust its focal length when either I move maneuver the camera, or turn the camera on or off, so they are pretty easy to capture.
Phil, that is actually FreewayJim creates his signs as well.

The traffic never stops there!
The music's a little overdone. It's just a freeway, after all.
Much lower volume and light jazz would have been more suited to the theme of rolling down the highway.
love weezer!
