  • This is a neat device. I studied Earth Sciences in college and earthquakes have always fascinated me. I've always wanted to own a seismograph and thanks to the folks at Raspberry Shake this is now possible. This video gives a general overview of what Raspberry Shake is, how I installed mine, and how to look for earthquake signals. You can find them, along with a lot more information at their website here: raspberryshake.org

A little known technology are military intrusion detector systems that use a geophone to discern human footfalls and identify vehicle types. I'd be interested in one that can ID different wildlife species.

Love my shake and it's picked up 1 small 2.something quake here in Australia, plus a few in New Zealand and others a bit further away. In a relatively quiet area but it picks up shooting at the local outdoor rifle range, and indoor range. Just started rock tumbling in the shed a few meters away and it picks that up as a slight increase in noise as well, at about 18hz for one tumbler and 20hz for the other
Wish I had the 3D or 4D, but alas I just got the 1D for now.

The 1d is awesome, still shows a lot of cool stuff. You have some big subduction zones close by, just a matter of time before you get a huge signal from there.
