One of the most brilliant tenors in this repertoire to ever live. The refined taste of Kraus, the vocal athleticism of Blake, and a golden warmth all his own. You’ve made my day yet again, Lohengrin!
OMG! What a find! "Bruce Ford manages to make the fiendishly difficult role of Mitridate seem easy, with spot-on high notes and great style. Dramatically he is very moving and refined." IMDB. This channel is like a museum of operatic greatness. No, velvet Elvis paintings, only Da Vinci-esque masterpieces!
His performance of Se di lauri here at the beginning of this video was one of my main inspirations when i was learning and preparing to record it. That maestoso tempo he takes it is absolutely brutal. Simply operating at a high level. Thank you for the upload!
Graham Vick’s very stylish 1991 Covent Garden production. Fun fact: it was restaged in 2017, with Michael Spyres in the selfsame 20 kg heavy costume. ua-cam.com/video/uaLIzXKgCRc/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared ❤

you have heard Ford live? how was his voice? I mean in terms of volume which is smth we really cannot appreciate in official miced performances as opposed to piratic bootleg recordings which reflect the real volume of the voice
@@LohengrinO I heard Ford live in Amsterdam, as Mitridate and as Ermione. I have heard Spyres too on quite a few occasions. Bruce Ford was on the top of his game in said years: I have never heard nor seen a better acting and performing tenor, as far as bel canto technique and beauty of timbre. Ford was able to fill the hall and project his voice with apparent ease, not because it struck me as hugely voluminous but because of its natural high setting and squillo. He sang this role with an eerie metallike sound, perfectly in character, always with a golden glow. The sad and only reason Ford has not remained famous IMO is because he got ill, and had to take a step back. Wonderful singer! Nice man too (like Spyres).

Was listening to Moser and Auger in the divine Aspasia Sifare duet and was thinking exact same thing
This is glorious. Having a nap in Vancouver, or am I in Heaven? Eternal thanks.
Magnificently gorgeous! His voice soars!
8 C5s in second aria
What a marvelous talent and beautiful production too. Those jumps from low to high notes so effortless. Thank you Lohengrin.

Cleaner and more polished and technically sounder than Michael Spyres, in my opinion.
Excellent choice as always! Lawrence Brownlee actually sang Mitridate here in boston a few months ago and i missed it :/ hope to catch him next time
Wow, another awesome Mitridate! Can't decide whether I Like Ford or Spyres better. They are both wonderful!
WoW quelle tessiture!
Πράγματι καταπληκτικός στο ρεπερτόριό του.
Ευχαριστώ, φίλε μου.
Gorgeous voice and no less gorgeous wardrobe

Those gloves are a bit much!
Lady Gaga borrowed them some years later for a red carpet at the oscars
