The Rock & Roll hall of Fame is a joke anyway since the have rap & hip hop jokesters being inducted over rock bands that have been together 40 plus years
These guys where fantastic. So many different parts.complex time signatures, starting phrases before the bar lines. And that song... And OMG those lyrics. Truly the voice of God.
When someone asks me my favorite song, first I ask if they mean non-Kansas song, because my entire top 50 are all Kansas songs. That said, favorite Kansas song and song altogether, is this one.
I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Robby Steinhardt and his lovely wife in Tampa at a Bar-B-Que eatery about 3 months ago. Such a down to earth guy. Kansas to this day inspires me not only as a musician myself but life in general. Really LISTEN! to the music🎶....it speaks to me personally. ☺
Oh wow, one of the best versions of this I've heard! Love the organ solo in the middle. These guys just never cease to amaze me. Thanks Rick for posting this.
These old recordings are great to listen to! Wish I was there for many of these shows! The founding 6 members (Kerry Livgren, Steve Walsh, Dave Hope, Robby Steinhardt, Phil Ehart, Richard Williams) were genius musicians! Thankfully, along with founding members Richard Williams and Phil Ehart, we still have long time band members David Ragsdale & Billy Greer along with new band members David Manion and Ronnie Platt to keep the spirit of Kansas alive and well!
Glorious American prog. It's just LOVE, and Miracles out of Nowhere. I have yet to hear a live version that betters the magic of the studio version. However, I have not heard a bad live version either. Much respect and love to Kansas!
Without the Steve and Robby it's hard for me to continue on with the present Kansas! I grew up on this real true music. This is a compliment on behalf of some truly great musicianship!
there are many bands through the years that have impressed me musically vocally and instrumentally but only KANSAS HAD IT ALL,ALL OF IT,AND I SAW THEM YOUNG, WHEN I WAS YOUNG and that has made all of the difference, they are GENIUS,PERIOD
Kansas was on tour constantly in those days. It kills me when people comment on Steve's voice....not being on top. This band was Great in those days and we all have a bad day. Lots of partying too. Keep that in mind, it was the 70,s
+Doug Stagg I don't think that anyone could make a case for Steve's voice being bad back in his prime. Sure he had rough nights but even then he was better than most singers. Yeah they did some partying! Who didn't? =)
every time I have seen Kansas in concert, or on DVD, this song (my favorite of all of Kerry's compositions) is always placed at a certain point in the setlist. This song always takes the emotional level of the performance up another notch, "in my opinion." Great sound on this audio recording!
This is the Best Audio of KANSAS 1977 - performing at their prime. Thank you for posting, and THANK YOU KANSAS for the wonderful memories... This is exactly how I remember the band sounding, LIVE Seattle Center Coliseum! PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH WIND
I would have given almost anything to have been able to see them on this tour. POKR was my first Kansas album, and immediately I was blown away by the complexity of their music and depth of their lyrics, and when I bought Leftoverture the song Miracles Out Of Nowhere immediately became my favorite song from that album. I had the pleasure of seeing them for the first time on their Audio-Visions tour, but still wish I could have seen the POKR tour when they were doing their shows BIG, with plenty of spotlight moments for various members of the band, not the least of which was that amazing organ solo towards the end of the instrumental break in Miracles. As great as it is to hear, I would have loved to have seen Steve play it. For me, there is no very few joys greater than watching very accomplished musicians perform at their craft.
...Saw that tour... listened to their music before POKN came out stunning music ! Influenced my life ! Saw them throu-out my life , several shows , several cities !
yeah,my first favorite band,i think I saw this tour,in Seattle with Cheap Trick, ive seen KANSAS 19 times now,IN 5 different states ,and two weeks ago in TUCSON,AZ I've met the band and had lunch with Rich,in Washington,he caught a 8lb.Salmon from the Skagit River, cooked it and Ste the whole thing, and then they closed the classic rock festival in Derringer,Wa.,I think 1994 or so,pretty cool, more stories to come
There's nothing else to say that hasn't been said in the comments about the excellence of the music, so I'd like to acknowledge your work and say that you're a hero to the admirers of good music! Thank you, Rick!
Saw this tour live at the Spectrum in Philly. There was a flash pot that ignited immediately behind the gong at the end of the song. Truly breathtaking. I can visualize the image in my head as I write this.
Great concert - Great New Years Eve Night - Still have the Tour Program - Cheap Trick opened for them. I became a Trick fan that night as well. Thanks for posting.
i feel steve has more talent in his little finger than entire bands do put together these days if he had 8 pairs of arms he be playing 8 instruments no b.s. go steve
That blew me away when I found that out. Those 2 lines are hard enough to play alone much less SIMULTANEOUSLY!! As great a keyboardist as Kerry was I'd have to say that Steve (aka Superman) could do it all!!
Just saw this... man it brings back memories. First concert I ever went to, and was blown away! Great live band at their peak, and one of the best New Year's Eves of my life! Thanks for posting this.
You're welcome Robert! have you seen the new line-up? They are every bit as good as the original 6. I kid you not. The band has returned to it's original former glory. You must try to get to show if you really want to bring back memories!
Rick, you are the MAN! Long Beach Arena was practically my backyard. I saw some concerts there back in the day, and it kills me that I was too young for concerts back in 1977 and thus missed this. This is a great version. As always, thanks for posting!
I saw them in Point of No Return tour. 78/79 I think. It was wonderful. Unfortunately the arena was not a great place for acoustics. It is no longer standing
That's true. Digital synths are much more convenient. I think Moog has new versions that are hybrids that solve that problem. I'm not much of an expert on synth technology though.
I definitely agree. Ragsdale is a very talented player, but the electric violin bugs me. The acoustic sound has so much more substance to it. Unfortunately, there weren't always great pickups or other methods of amplification for violins, so Robby frequently got stuck playing an acoustic violin that had a very rough electric tone to it, and there wasn't a whole lot that he could do about it. The violin sound on this recording, however, is very nice, along with everything else.
Saw them a couple weeks after this in Denver, January 15, 1978. It was the same day that Dallas defeated the Broncos in Super Bowl XII. Watched the game in a bar across the street from McNichols arena before the concert (McNichols had much better acoustics than Pepsi/Ball or whatever they call it now). Cheap Trick was the leadoff band and they SUCKED compared to Kansas. All great musicians, but I thought that Robbie and Phil were the standouts that night. Always loved Dave Hope's unique bass sound. Kind of Chris Squireish. :)
But the intonation of David Ragsdale is beautiful, which is why I'm so mesmerised by his playing. Robby just wasn't that impressive to me playing wise. Singing wise is a whole different story.
Great band ... but Steve Walsh and the short shorts? Good lord. I know rock stars are supposed to be narcissistic, but damn. What a dorky "cool" look. Thankfully, he seems to have given them up.
I know it’s redundant to say, Kansas for the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, ASAP!
And they did not have controversies like say Motley Crue
The Rock & Roll hall of Fame is a joke anyway since the have rap & hip hop jokesters being inducted over rock bands that have been together 40 plus years
Glad I got to see the original Kansas band...RIP Robbie
Probably the most underrated band ever...
not by me they aren't
Kansas had two unbelievably wonderful albums... and the rest. So, I think, they are fairly rated band.
I was there. Amazing sound quality. Like a vinal record played with the volume up. Cheap Trick opened up.. Became a Cheap Trick fan after as well.
These guys where fantastic. So many different parts.complex time signatures, starting phrases before the bar lines. And that song... And OMG those lyrics. Truly the voice of God.
+Bruce Delaney You should check out the Kansas(band) Facebook page.
When someone asks me my favorite song, first I ask if they mean non-Kansas song, because my entire top 50 are all Kansas songs. That said, favorite Kansas song and song altogether, is this one.
Ultimate philosophical .
And masters of their craft.
One of my top 5 Kansas songs and never gets old!
This and Song for America, the later seems so appropriate for our situation today.
It's amazing how much a group can influence one's life. Writers for an amazing period.
So sad to hear of his passing
May he be blessed with our heavenly father RIP

Pure genius! Steve and Robbie sound so good harmonizing.
After 47 years, and 25+ shows the music of Kansas means more to me than ever.
Saw them in 1979. Superb show. Leftoverture is a masterpiece!
I was there that night. Tonight, I see them again. 42 years later. What a long trip it's been.
Saw them the same year , in Detroit !! Still have the tee-shirt !! - - - have seen them 7 times , in 3 different states !
*_I sang this song a hundred maybe a thousand years ago .. No one ever listens I just play and then I go .._* 🇺🇸
Glorious American prog.

What an incredible song by an incredible band!
Best live version of this song, no doubt about it. Just wow.......
there are many bands through the years that have impressed me musically vocally and instrumentally but only KANSAS HAD IT ALL,ALL OF IT,AND I SAW THEM YOUNG, WHEN I WAS YOUNG and that has made all of the difference, they are GENIUS,PERIOD
Yep I saw them at Kemper arena in KC 77 or 78 n they were fantastic and sounded just like their albums😁👏👏👏
@@lindabergman3127 YEP!!! I saw them first around 78 when I was 15,,, absolutely dumbfounded by this amazing band-
I was there.
So was I
That makes 3!
I was at the San Diego stop that year.
Their tempos live are crazy. Much more drive than in the studio recordings. I reckon you get better and better with repetition. Cool Walsh organ solo!
Wow! This is my favorite live audio of this song Thank you!
Yes they actually played this! They were THAT good.
My favorite band of all time, playing music from my all time favorite album ever. Nothing can beat my first experience listening to Leftoverture.
God bless you Robbie May you're spiritual life stay heavenly

PEOPLE OF THE SOUTH WIND
I saw these guys in October of 77.This was my getting out of the navy present to myself..
unbelievable tune (amazing lyrics, melodies, musicianship, etc...)...
wow what a masterpiece, these guys rock!
I'VE SEEN KANSAS 14 TIMES!!!😃😃😃😃😃
This is the most epic version
so glad I grew up listening to this kind of music and not today's ear garbage lol. Genius!
So great to hear them in their youth
I would have given almost anything to have been able to see them on this tour.

A sound that NEVER grows old
The bridge on this song is so complex. It’s basically 4 different keyboard parts being played at once by two people, live.
Outstanding version! One of the better ones (probably the best) I've heard! Thank you very much for posting this, Rick!
Wow! Kerry was shredding it at the end.
+evad wall Kerry was a player! Listen to his solo works! He rips it up on a lot of that stuff!
This song is self explanatory , not just a great song , it was the road to a great prog. Rock band , carry on , !! The album say it alll, .
Wow ...The classical organ part just blew me away ....
Steve was so classical..... With his composition.
Great video Rick..
I was at this show. Best New Year's Eve
EVER!! I camped out to get tickets. Can't believe it's been 42 years.
This is amazing. What energy and skill it must have taken to perform this song.
Just amazing :)
Thank you for this post. Rocked my morning. Be well
I was at this show 8th row. Never forget this. Thanks for posting.
+Brian Pate You're welcome!
Great job, Rick! This has always been one of my favorites on Leftoverture :-)
Michael.

I love how the pictures truly correspond.
thanks again Ricky; as usual you share rich music history
You're welcome, Thor!
RIP Robby Steinhardt 🎻
Great concert - Great New Years Eve Night - Still have the Tour Program - Cheap Trick opened for them. I became a Trick fan that night as well. Thanks for posting.
I was at this show. Probably the best concert I ever saw.
AWESOME!!!! I was at this show!!! I was 19 yrs old at the time.
Cheap Trick opened up for them...............
Thanks again Mike Millard!
Real cool photo of Steve in those sun glasses. Good damn music.
i feel steve has more talent in his little finger than entire bands do put together these days if he had 8 pairs of arms he be playing 8 instruments no b.s. go steve
Great job with lining up the shots. Only a true fan knows that Walsh plays both lines in the first section of the bridge.
Thanks Ed!
That blew me away when I found that out. Those 2 lines are hard enough to play alone much less SIMULTANEOUSLY!! As great a keyboardist as Kerry was I'd have to say that Steve (aka Superman) could do it all!!
That was fantastic. Thanks for posting.

Kansas is the best!
Like kansas, they're really great

We should all chip in and buy one for Steve.
IF I am not mistaken this was the Long Beach Arena. I was at that concert what a great a show!!!!
Rick, you are the MAN! Long Beach Arena was practically my backyard. I saw some concerts there back in the day, and it kills me that I was too young for concerts back in 1977 and thus missed this.

My second concert, from the 2nd row!
Thanks Rickyon!!!! You've got some awesome classic music videos!!!! Carry On!!!
Point of No Return~Great vid Ricky!
You're welcome.
Kansas 🏁
Who else is here in 2020 watching?
It just doesn't get any progger than this. Bite me Jordan Rudess.
+Daryl Farley Rudess is a badass and I'm sure this helped shape him also. We all learn from the past.
I saw them in Point of No Return tour. 78/79 I think. It was wonderful. Unfortunately the arena was not a great place for acoustics. It is no longer standing
rickyon! where you been? I see we're still rotating in the same music genre - keep on keepin' on my brotha....
That's true. Digital synths are much more convenient. I think Moog has new versions that are hybrids that solve that problem. I'm not much of an expert on synth technology though.
RIP ROBBY
saw the next tour
This is a totally excellent song!!! Back in the day. Love the jam in the middle. Is that Walsh or Livgren jamming? Carry On!!!
Back in those days, if it's an organ, it's Walsh. Other keys were Livgren.
Steve Walsh
@@toddwebb7819 yep. Steve is playing that organ.
Why don't the keyboards sound that good anymore? I wish Steve would keep a minimoog in his rack like Wakeman.
1:10 yeehoo
I definitely agree. Ragsdale is a very talented player, but the electric violin bugs me. The acoustic sound has so much more substance to it. American progressive rock. A curious expérience. Southern progressive rock as a matter of fact.
he said "dootie"
Steve Walsh’s voice sounds a tad rough here. But sometimes you have good and bad nights.
The songs moving too fast
Saw them a couple weeks after this in Denver, January 15, 1978. It was the same day that Dallas defeated the Broncos in Super Bowl XII. Great band ... but Steve Walsh and the short shorts? Good lord. I know rock stars are supposed to be narcissistic, but damn. What a dorky "cool" look.
Thankfully, he seems to have given them up.
You're welcome.
