Crumb is one of my all-time best documentary films ever made alongside Hoop Dreams (1994), Woodstock (1970), Roger & Me (1989), and The Thin Blue Line (1988)

This episode is a good reminder that they always wanted to do something extra each show, like talk about a trend, or try to nudge the film industry into a better direction.

Sharon Stone talking about the algorithm, before the algorithm was the algorithm. Prophetic.

roger and gene never addressed on the original vhs and dvd cover of shallow grave that it said two thumbs up on the cover although it did not, it one of three movies that falsely says that the others are birdy from 84 and lemony snicket's a series of unfortunate events but ebert and roeper did address false claims on that last one

Producing a scripted Jerky Boys movie misses the point, Crumb was-and still is-quite devastating. Always enjoyed Shallow Grave due to the editing and soundtrack

Crumb is my favorite documentary. A hard watch for sure but there is lots of humor in it for some needed levity. And I was obsessed with The Jerky Boys as a kid, I think their Jerky Boys 2 was my first CD I got haha. But even back then I knew the movie was kinda crappy.

Shallow Grave was the warm up for Trainspotting. Good thing the follow up was great.

Genes rant... if he were here today, he'd have an existential crisis of faith with all the superhero overrun and all the shit on streaming.

The Quick and the Dead would have been better if they had left in the deleted scene of Sharon Stone's character having sex with Russell Crowe's character. Because that would have made it more interesting instead of just watching one gunslinger get knocked off after another. That and those two had good chemistry.

Hear me out: I don't think the Jerky Boys movie was that bad for what it was.
If you're walking into the theater expecting to see a quality pic that is going to win Oscars, then yeah you're gonna have a really bad time.
If you're going into it knowing what you're going to get, it's not bad. You're getting the various characters from the CD and the occasional cameo that happens to be dropped across a storyline. Is the script great? No, of course not. But nobody is going in expecting a theatrical masterpiece or an amazing back story. You're going to see the Jerky Boys "play the hits" in movie form. You're going in expecting to hear Frank Rizzo and company.
If you look at it as an extension of the CDs, it's a little more tolerable. Notice I didn't say great or even good. It's the health food equivalent of downing a king size candy bar on the weekend. You know its not going to be good for you, but sometimes its not a bad idea to consume it anyways.

"No depth of character" in The Quick and the Dead? NO SHIT. It ain't that kind of movie. It's an exercise in style and thrills. It's fun. You know, that thing you USED to have?
Crumb is a brutal downer. Great documentary but I regret watching it.
Shallow Grave? More like Shallow Gravy. The gravy on the mashed potatoes that is the script! The Chicago Sun-Times should hire me hahaha. On a side note one time I got a speeding ticket in Berkeley California from a cop who was a dead ringer for Wavy Gravy.
