Coastin' Thru Europe Episode 25: WIENER PRATER (Day One)

- Our next stop on our tour across Europe is to Vienna, Austria, home to the second oldest amusement park in the world, Wiener Prater! This park is set up more like a permanent fair than a standard theme park, as each attraction is individually owned, meaning you must pay per ride as you go. This was our first time at the park, and with opening hours till midnight, we had a LOT to do!
We made a movie! This is How We Roll is a feature length documentary about the history of Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC). For more information and to get yourself a copy, please visit vimeo.com/ondemand/thisishowwerollmovie

14:24 When yall cut to Sarah laying on the floor I lost it! My wife said what the hell are you laughing at! I told her it was the two people I live vicariously through!!
From the obscure rides to the sounds of the other passengers at 16:35 , this park definitely contributed lots of source material for RCT3.
If you haven't seen it, there's a great old movie called The Third Man with a scene set on that ferris wheel that is pretty famous. It's one of my favorite movies
It was also featured in a James Bond movie!
@@gemmachaos The Living Daylights!
And before sunrise
The sign at the Mega-Blitz at 13:35 didn't say closed, it said "Bitte im Wagen bezahlen", meaning "Please pay at the cart." They probably only worked on a skeletton crew at that time and collected the money right from the seated guests at the train of the coaster.
ohhh good to know! We rode it the next day, so its all good!
@@CoasterStudios Glad to hear that you managed to get in the other day. Looking forward to part II of your visit to the Wiener Prater. :)
Yea had a similar experience when I was there in October, had to pay directly at the cart
I'm a long time theme park nut (and a boomer), and I've got to say, you guys are incredible! The after ride, super enthusiastic comments are exciting and often coffee through the nose hilarious. Glad I found this channel! Going to watch all of your vids. Cant wait to send my nephew the link! Oh and I so wish I can ride the Tagada!
Tagada is just fantastic. One of the most popular fair rides in Spain, together with the Cage Pirate Ships and the Flying Rainbow with cages as well. Great video!
Super 8 Bahn was made by Pinfari in 1996
11:50
"Wie eine gesenkte Sau" ("Like a lowered pig") is a term for someone going REALLY crazy fast (usually refers to driving). That's why the pig in the queue had goggles and there were tires and such.
13:00
The few cents for using the bathroom pay for that bathroom's cleaning and maintenance.
Sorry, I can't see it on my screen: Is the ride actually called "Gesenkte Sau"? If so, is that a pun or Austrian? 🤔
I grew up with the spelling being "gesengte Sau", meaning a "flamed pig" - a pig about to be slaughtered that gets it's hair burnt off. 🙈
@@QuokkaSquad It appears I got it wrong and its spelled gesengte. The usage in everyday life still is the same though, someone going REALLY fast.
@@Happymali10 Thank you for the explanation! :)
Powerland in Northern Finnland has another Boomerang with Lap bars. I‘ve ridden it this summer :)
Did not know that!
This is not true. It does use the new MK1211 Vekoma open side train though, but it still has over the shoulder restraints. I’ve been there too this summer. Another one which does feature lap bars is EqWalizer at Walibi Rhone Alpes.
The trains with lapbars or built by Sunkid. You can found them also on other Vekoma looping coasters like SpeedSnake FREE (Fort Fun, DE) and Balagos - Flying Flame (Hellendoorn, NL)
@@timdruyts5025 is Balagos a rename of Tornado?
@@jeffreytalemans1301 Yes.
Great video! The locker thing reminded me of the Aldis grocery store shopping carts where you put in a quarter and get your quarter back. Great park despite the prices!
16:40 that other guy was laughing like Mario 😭
I have just watched all 25 vlogs in 2 days and loved every single one of them, you guys are truly amazing, can’t wait for more
I am jealous you got on a tagada! They are one of my favorite European amusement rides to watch!
I went to wiener prater this past summer and it is an absolutely amazing park and I can't wait to ride the new bigdipper
I was shocked by how much I liked that boomerang. I rode it in the cold so had some natural padding from my jacket. Honestly favorite coaster in the park haha
Congratulations my friend on an astonishing 900 different roller 🎢 coasters. That is quite an accomplishment and to have done it as young as you are is even more amazing. Doing what you love to do is key to living a happy healthy life keep it up kiddo
Wow! I haven't been to the Prater since the 80s. It's much more developed now. It is much more like a theme park. Back then, it did really still feel like a regional fair with the exception of course of the Riesenrad! I grew up riding what you are calling Tagadas. We called them popcorn machines and yes, they were really fun as a child. I don't think I would go on one now. I'm too old.
I’ve been fortunate to have gone to Prater twice. Unfortunately, I’ve never been on Super Achterbahn, and Megablitz. Super 8chterbahn was already being demolished and Megablitz only operates at night. My favourite coasters there definitely has to be Gesengte Sau and Olympia Looping when it’s at the park! The OTSRs didn’t bother me at all, but to be fair I’m a tall guy. The boomerang is also definitely the best boomerang I’ve been on!
Generator at Walibi Rhône-Alpes is another boomerang with those bare lap bars. They're better than ots restraints, but they can be painful for larger guests
I think it's really smart to have water dummies in half the seats, when the ride isn't super popular and runs on an average of a full train then you might as well add those for more weight.
I was there last summer, what a good time. Come for the rides, stay for the food. We skipped the Tagada, though. That thing's a widowmaker.
The site of the Prater is where was held the 1873 World Fair and some of the pavilions are still there…
The Super 8 Bahn (8 bahn or Acht-erbahn is German for Roller coaster) is actually by Pinfari. This was one of their last designs they made before going bankrupt. And yeah its just great seeing you 2 absolutely floored (both figuratively AND literally) by some of the stuff there.
I thought it wouldn’t be too much effort to annotate something like this while editing the video 🙄
Welp. Super 8 bahn is going to India now apparently. Not really any details as of yet apart from its been sold to India. Honestly a bit of a shame, the ride was a unique model and looked charming. Not great, but just neat and charming.
My Washington state fair visit was very strange last time I went. They were supposed to close at 9:00 but actually closed at 1:00 in the morning. It was pretty cool!
Skull rock was easily my favorite ride in the park - for how cheap it was it is soooo creative and absolutely terrifying! Long ride too. We honestly liked this more than Pirates at Disney lol. Hotel Psycho is great too, and Eisberg is so bizarre in the best way
Wiener Prater is amazing with the exception of Volare and maybe Roller Ball, there is no bad coaster, it has to have the best Flat Ride collection and possibly dark rides but I would say with the addition of their Mack Big Dipper will substantially boost this ride lineup.
Agree with the flatride collection, the only thing that maybe have a chance for this title are the biggest funfairs with their most stacked lineups. Then it's a toss up between both
I heard a snippet of ava maxes song the motto while y’all were on the tagada ride and it made my day 😂 huge fan of her!
14:30 I NEED to get drunk and ride this thing all night.
I’m from the UK and tagadas are very common here, I’m kind of used to it at this point
same
Same in germany
There used to be a great themed Tagada at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in England. It was indoors as part of the walkthrough Haunted Hotel and featured at the end. It had effects & was pretty much a dark ride. Unfortunately it no longer remains but it was pretty cool & is sorely missed.
THEM PLAYING NICKI IS GIVING ME LIFE
How you describe Olympia looping restraints is exactly my experience with old B&M restraints.
Loved the tagada footage😂
that was a great time! one of my favorites from your trip :)
When I saw the Volare right next to Olympia Looping, I can't believe that you didn't take the opportunity to make that coaster 900 instead.
I, along with Sarah, thought you were suggesting a rather public yet wooded toilet.
Pretty much every major Funfair/Carnival in the UK has a Tagada apart from Nottingham Goose Fair and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland as they are banned
Superbahn is a TERRIFIC coaster, especially at night!
this is the literal meaning of themePARK
You guys are brave! I absolutely LOVE coasters BUT… I will never ride a coaster that have been built in a parking lot before I showed up. I just can’t bring myself to ride on that’s just been set up after I’ve seen them derail and fall apart in front of a camera. I just can’t do it.
15:57 This is a whole ride of video game voices.
When you go on the Tagada it’s really a fantasy world you enter and when you get off you don’t actually get off your just stuck in it, that’s why you feel so weird after.
She has a great personality. She's got wit.
Watching amusement park videos rn are sad, I have to wait until April to go to my park
Congrats on 900 Taylor!!
I believe the crazy shoulder restraints came out of an accident in the US at a Six Flags park that was running a clone for the Olympia Looping. One of Herr Achterbahn's few coasters where lap restraints aren't enough.
yeah the money for bathroom system sucks sometimes. But the bathrooms where you pay are normally very clean
There's Boomerang with Lap Bar in Walibi Rhône Alpes ^^
the boomerang at Walibi Rhone alphes has the same lapbar as the one at wiener prater!
Imagine doing that very same zamperla volare just as torrential rain starts falling. Yep good times.
What do you guys think of the new Mack Big Dipper coming to wiener prater?
Will be a great addition to this park- excited to see how it comes together!
The description of Skull Rock kind of sounded like Haunted Mansion at Knoebels. Would you consider that to be a good comparison or am I way off lol
Super 8er Bahn is a Pinfari something or other
Also there are a few Boomerangs in India that have received that Sunkid lapbar train
What do you use to keep track of your credits? I'm looking for a good app to use.
I just use the notes app on my phone
Hey Taylor and Sarah! Just so you know, there are Tagadas un fairs in Central America!! I'm from Costa Rica and the biggest fair in San José is during christmas and new year and there is always at least 2 Tagadas!! Now I'm in France and there's Tagadas here as well but I can assure you: the tagadas in Central America are much MORE INTENSE than the european ones!!!
Here is a video of a Tagada in Costa Rica --> ua-cam.com/video/52waYwCzAUk/v-deo.html
I could see tagadas at some parks in the u.s., but I would see them having guests sign waivers and probably be 18 or older
I rode a boomerang with lapbars at Walibi Rhone Alpes in France. I believe there is a third one like in India or something
I really love my "home park" but it is lacking a real solid roller coaster. I think an RMC Raptor or smtg like that would fit perfectly
Well hey you're getting Wiener Looping soon.
I know you guys aren't too keen on the paid toilet situation and I'll admit I think it's wrong but usually the money goes towards keeping them clean, if I was given the option to pay 50p to use a clean toilet or I could use a smelly mucky one for free, I'd pay the 50p. Obviously a nice clean free toilet would be perfect but if the alternative is one that isn't looked after properly I'll just pay the 50p. After years of travelling around the world, if I see a paid toilet I do generally think "oh thank God it's going to be clean".
“That was uhhhh how you say uhhhh ass”
“This is the best worst idea I’ve ever seen”
Did you guys go on black mamba
Hopefully.
How much did you spent on the coasters at Prater? Is it more expensive than a regular theme park?
We spent more than we would've liked...definitely on the pricier side. It all adds up quickly.
From what I heard the main reason Olympia looper has these bad restrains is because it goes to the UK for a lot of money every winter and to get it approved in the UK they had to add “over the shoulder” restraints to get it operational
Nah, it's had the accordion restraints for years now. Rode it last weekend and to be honest, the restraints don't bother me personally, much prefer it when it has the 7 car trains on, it hauls round the last 2 loops with those on.
@@andyuk200523 but it’s also going to the UK for winter wonderland or something for many years to🤷♂️
@@maartenkruijff4293 since 2016, however the restraints were added well before that, cannot remember the exact year, hopefully someone will know, but that was not the reason they were added.
900!!!
It's sad when.I went super 8 bahn was closed still need the cred
I think there is another lab barred boomerang somewhere in India but i may be wrong tho
there is a few vekoma boomerangs with lap bars walibi has one
Fors of all, that was random, second, Walibis Boomerangs do not have lap bars.
@@maxhagenauer24 what about Walibi Rhône-Alpes they have a vekoma boomerang with lap bars also it was because he said earlier in the video that they had the only one with lap bars
@@themeparkplanet3210 Oh, your right, my bad.
Fun Fact: volare is Italian for "the worst coaster model ever"
Imagine if it was actually “the best coaster ever” that would be so ironic
Super 8 Bahn is a pinfari
kewl
WHOOOHOOOOO
Would you say Volare is the worst coaster you have ever been on worse than Bandit, WIldcat and SLC's.
I saw the sign for a fraction of a second and I could still see that it says "Super 8er Bahn". I'm assuming Super 8s are like Crazy 8s.
Also, apparently this gold-coin-crapping dude is a German-language thing because they had one on a wall in Düsseldorf! It's called a geldscheisser, and you don't have to know a lot of German to know what that means. It apparently was a reference to rich bankers.
TAGADA FTW
Super 8er Bahn is a Pinfari
Maybe super Bahn is a gerstlauer
I think that first coaster is a Pax
Just gonna correct ya, its actually by Pinfari.
@@drdewott9154 I stand corrected ;)
I rode a tagatta ride before years back at a carnival in Ga. Back in the 90s
I don't know but i had a pretty good ride on volare so maybe i just had a got lucky or something idk
Weiner Prater sounds like a parody of Harry Potter
Why do you not include the POVs and keep separating them into another video. POVs are the best part.
Because we don’t want our vlogs to be an hour long
Because we don’t want our vlogs to be an hour long
@@CoasterStudios Then cut out other things but not the POV/on ride reactions which is the best part.
13:25 I did
14:31 Reverse Micheal Jackson
where's matt
He left after Toverland and the Dusseldorf Fair
@@CoasterStudios ok
Peeing in the woods is probably 80 Euros. Would Not recommend that at all.
It has Schwasrzkopf tendencies - BUT ITS NOT love it
He's describing a skill issue when complaining about the restraints... goofy
Wiener lol
Don't know how tall you are. I am about 6"11 and didn't have any issues with the restrainsts on Olympia Looping. For a ride that old i found it quite comfortable.
