I am a D&RGW modeler so no SD40-2's but ScaleTrains will be shipping the best looking SD40T-2 around early October. I've pre-ordered all 6 numbers they are doing - they look very nice in the photos and a step up from the Intermountain version. They are also the N scale tunnel motors in SP. Sweet. But I'm currently doing a layout in HO so ScaleTrains is also shipping D&RGW GP40's and D&RGW SD45's, also due this fall. Yeah, it's going to be very expensive!
What Other Model Train UA-camrs(Bisides Yourself) Do You Enjoy Watching? I Like SMT Mainline, RBP Trains, Toyman Television, Eric's Trains, Sam's Trains, ETC
SMT Mainline, Anthony Dodge The Model Train Outsider, The Main Track, Derail Darrell, HO Powered Train, Mr. RailYard, Peyton Railfan, Train Buff Boy 47, Mom and Son Train Railfans, Steve Childers, The Train Freak. There's others I check in on from time to time, but these are the ones I regularly watch!
SMT is great, and if you want to learn awesome looking detail and scenery watch Boomer Diorama and Luke Towan. Also Marklin of Sweden has really helpful info.
Another nice one Jimmy. That was interesting on a number of levels. It is good to see that you are still attracting newbies to the hobby. I would also be interested to see what other channels you regularly watch.
For your AMA/Q&A, I have a goal of obtaining a total of 40 genral use freight cars (nothing that can haul ore/coal, no autoracks, or intermodal), what would you consider a good ratio between boxcars, hoppers, gondolas, tank cars, and flatcars ( I removed the era limit so if you got 1800's suggestions, it'll probably end up being pulled by an ES44...)
I have a n scale set with a diesel and a steam on a Kato unitrack. The diesel never derails, but the steam engine front bogies consistently do on the switches. When I go slow it appears the bogies follow the path opposite of what they should be (switched to go straight but bogie wheels go left on a left hand switch). Suggestions?
For doing American hon30 like the SR&RL. Kits are all your going to get for now. With the fall of shape ways it's difficult for this scale. 009 in England is really easy to get. Look at Rails of Sheffield. Good luck to your hon30 layout.
Yeah I wish there was more narrow gauge in America. To mind, the only stuff I think about are the old west style locos, whereas the OO9 stuff can be pretty varied, but then again, it’s going to be non-American. Did black stone do some of these, or was it more HOn3? I think that’s a scale/gauge?
@@andrewlaverghetta715 Blackstone is only hon3 but haven't seen them active in years. Only 2' lines in the US were in main or the gilppin in Colorado. A few in the Hawaiian islands.
Hey Jimmy! I’m just wondering, will you be going to the National T-Trak show in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2026 for the record layout? Would be cool to see you going as it would draw attention to the event online. Have a good day!
Hey, I know you’ve said in the past you do video production as you full time job (I work in the TV industry), I wanted to see if you have a website for your video work and what kind of camera gear you have/use and what of that do you use to make these UA-cam videos.
Jimmy, love the channel. I am a 40+ year model railroader. I have always been in HO Scale. I currently have my entire collection for sale as I am making the change to N Scale. First question is, what important recommendations do you have for first time N Scalers? Secondly, I have a 10’x20’ space that I am converting from HO to N, can I email you some questions to prevent taking up an entire segment here? 🤷🏼♂️🤣 I feel as if you’re one of the authorities on N Scale. Thanks and keep up the good work.
My layout is DC and I got into the hobby later in life. We had a couple of children, a mortgage etc, you know how it is. As time past more and more of tgd locos were DCC but I couldn’t afford the prices plus I really didn’t know about the system. Before I realized itvI was way behind and couldn’t afford to add chips to my locos. So I think I am stuck in the past so to speak as I cannot imagine paying the prices being asked today plus, as my layout is British it costs too much now to mail from the Uk
It's been roughly 60 years since I had my first and only trainset, a Tyco HO starter kit circa 1965. Having recently retired, I'd like to get back into model trains. I have a mental plan for a West Coast lumber layout, circa 1920s or 1930s. Given the space available, I'll go with N scale, ideally Nn3. But it would be wise to start small first. I want to start with a simple trolley scene, but I'm having difficulty finding realistic-looking trolley cars in N scale. I'm open to era and country. Can you point me in the right direction?
Be very careful using the MRC Railpower 1370 controller with DCC equipped locomotives. Rapido says that using that unit with their DCC equipped locomotives will void the warranty.
I am drinking my usual Dunkin Donuts Dark this morning. How do you store you rolling stock that you don't have a box for? I have bought quite a bit from eBay and just have them in a box but I would like to make it more organized.
I’m glad I’m not very interested in steam. I’ve been served well by my $100 DC n scale locos that I’ve converted to mostly non-sound for about $30. That’s Atlas and Kato. Then one of the Kato locos got the Digitrax with a different speaker for about $50. Heck, my HO switcher with great sound from Athearn was only $250.
Hi. Drinking Folgers Black Silk. Enjoyed this episode and found it useful as always. This time I was struck by the brick and mortar building I see over your right shoulder. I am a lover of older brick and mortar factory buildings built in the early 1920's up to the 1950's. Please tell me what kit (I'm assuming) this one was built from. Thanks
Hello Jimmy. So for the AMA, I'm curious if you'd ever consider getting a live steam loco (like 5 or 7.25 inch guage) and if you would get one, which class of loco would you like to get.
Hi Jimmy, Lidl store brand Donut Shop coffee this morning! With the number of subscribers and Patreons you have, do you ever feel the pressure to generate content as frequently as possible?
Hey Jimmy, what do you use for the fascia ? I've been trying to find something to cover the bench work that looks clean like yours. I also have a new layout to submit, my 3rd one (you've covered the other two already) this one is my first N scale, and is in the cab of my semi! Comes around the country with me
Jimmy, I grew up in a very small town with a PennCentral spur running through it. Is there any way to find which engine(s) were used on this spur by type and road number? I would like to use that engine as my yard switcher.
How do you get the spouse on board for jumping into this hobby, or continuing this hobby? E.G. Can be expensive and time consuming. But it's just the best darn hobby out there!
(x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is a slope aka rise over run. Also an N-scaler here though nowhere near your hobby level even though I'm in my very late 40s. Still, I enjoy listening to someone who is fast-paced like me (I'm a Veteran). My question now to you is how long will it take for you to dissemble your layout and convert it to modular? Also, what is your favorite EMD locomotive? (in "real" life)
You always have a great informative video 📹 but my qa would you ever think 🤔 about making a service for computer 🖥 and wiring service for model railroads because lot of us really need help in wiring and computer automation service I'm one of them if pay is right
Can I still have analog trains are they still out an nice lighting an some basic sound my tracks outer has 4 termanil track an inside has 2 termanil do you think that's good
Analog would be considered just “DC,” right? He’s mentioned that kind of thing a lot. Something that is “DCC Ready” is also analog. This won’t really include sound though. That’s one of the things you get with Digital Command Control. I don’t know what you mean by the termanil (I assume you mean terminal).
I love this segment. There's always a few nuggets of new information that pertain to my situation. Thanks.

Daniel Cortopassi, TSG multimedia, CraftyFoxe, jlwii2000 and Everard Junction (currently on hiatus) are also great.
Scrumptious Model Trains has come a long way over the years, I remember when he was under 1k subs.
Not me spending $600 on the Rapido H1 Hudson 🙈
Another nice one Jimmy. That was interesting on a number of levels. It is good to see that you are still attracting newbies to the hobby. I would also be interested to see what other channels you regularly watch.
If you want a brass n scale engines. The key custom series engines are very well built locomotives.

Should I add lights and what lights should I use for my N scale layout?

I'm drinking 100% Kona coffee. Expensive but amazing.
You reminded me of that coffee from the movie, the bucket list.
love it
What do you think of SoundTraxx’s Blunami decoders? I prefer them exclusively for their great versatility. I use their 4408 for my brass Triplex.
I'm drinking Tetley British Bland from my Cranberry Lake (NJ) station mug.

Thanks for the heads up
How often should you run a loco to keep it working properly? I know machines tend to freeze up, if not operated once in a while.
What kind of car do you drive, and what is your dream vehicle?
Jey Jimmy, got a big cup of Hazelnut coffee from Green Mountain!
I am drinking my usual Dunkin Donuts Dark this morning. How do you store you rolling stock that you don't have a box for? I have bought quite a bit from eBay and just have them in a box but I would like to make it more organized.

Is there a way to know which unit (I'm specifically asking about the CSX Heritage trains) will be running a route in order to catch it at a crossing?
What editing software do you use looking for one to start videos of the new layout

The most spent on a locomotive was 450.00 for a brass 2-10-4, but that you 4-8-4 would be next.
Automatic or manual kato switches?

I model in N Scale what u think of Atlas Locomotives
Does anyone make a good New York Central Niagara plastic model in HO scale.?
Were u on a green screen? It kinda looks weird
I’m making an n scale polar express but I don’t know how to make the ice on the engine and cars, can you help?

Pikes Place K-cups.

I actually like spending next to nothing on a locomotive that needs repair. My entire layout is probably $600, buy used.
If you had a choice, would you rather acquire a pot of gold to buy trains or a pot of trains?
