Cullis is a forgotten man in the history of great managers by most people other than Wolves fans and that's sad. He was a great manager. Probably on a par or even better than contemporaries such as Bill Nicholson or Harry Catterick

I recall back in 64 our head master Mr. Bastin at Sir William Collins secondly modern school in King's x , he took assembly as usual and proceeded to tell us 15 hundred boys that the great Stan Cullis had been fired, he broke down in tears telling us, Mr. Bastin obviously hailed from Wolverhampton and must of know Cullis

Sounds similar to the shock of when Shankly retired, heartbreaking it had to end in such a way

Can’t stand Wolves as a Shrewsbury fan, but enjoyed this documentary. Would be good to see a documentary about English hooliganism in the 80’s, its an interesting topic

Thanks buddy, one of the key themes about this channel is you can enjoy a good story whatever your allegiances are. I’ll add that too the list, good suggestion!

Tough break his ending at Wolves, however, going from 1st to 6th to 16th over a number of seasons, there is always going to be an inevitable outcome

Think youll find won 4th FA Cup in 1960 also lost to Portsmouth in 1939 FA Cup not Everton

The anecdote that Cullis was dropped for refusing to give the Nazi salute is rubbish. The England team was announced two weeks before the Germany game and Cullis was dropped because he had had a poor match in England's previous game, a 1-0 defeat by Scotland at Wembley. The Nazi salute business is just an urban myth. Also, Wolves lost the 1939 Cup Finial to Portsmouth, not Everton, and Billy Wright was not centre-back when Wolves beat Leicester in the 1949 FA Cup finial. He was left-half.
