- I definitely wasn't expecting to be milking any cows in June, but I've had one slip really early so I might as well since she's a nice one.
I am a bit hesitant to see if she comes into milk properly though as sometimes its bit of a gamble.
Shame about the premature calf loss.
Good to have a house cow.😊
Hey Andrew. There is a company in Cambridge I used to work for that might still supply sawdust to farmers. Cameron Transport Ltd 👍🏻
I think ive heard of them. just got some off Finch's again, they had a wood chip - sawdust blend which looks pretty good
Hi I like your video
We have a rule if they slip in June they go on the truck. If they slip early July will they make it until Xmas. If not off they go.
good rule I reckon!
You have a lot of grass for time of the year
Bummer, kinda spoils your winter vacation from milking, if she's a younger cow i give them a chance, older cow need to come around pretty quick if they want to stay. On changing out rubber on clusters, try pushing the hose on first, this helps break the bond, as tube compresses from you pushing it, it expands and loosens it, try it, you will be amazed at the difference. Great video enjoyed it as always.
Hi mate. Do you give minerals to your cows?
Yes from the 1st of July they get magnesium dusted on the grass and once calved they get minerals in the drench or o the feed pad
Was that a Crawford finger snap!!
Hey Andrew have you tried taking the milk tube off at the dropper instead of the cluster it can be easier and less chance of breaking the bowl
never really thought of that but it would work I guess.
I just take it off the bowl as its easier cleaning to clean the milk tube on the test bucket rather than the dropper but maybe I need to give it ago, thanks
@TheOnceADayFarmer you still only clean 1 hose just the one connected to the cups the test bucket hose would purely be for vacuum unless the bucket gets to full.
@TheOnceADayFarmer il be coming over to nz for my brothers anniversary he was killed on a 2 wheel farm bike.

nice 1 brother. amazing
When do you start spreading some magnesium oxide on the wet grass prior to calving, especially for the older cows?
1st of July we start
Nice working ❤
👀🙄🐾👍
👍
We have our 1st 2 cows calved today
Your into it then
Hey Andrew,
I really appreciate how much time you put into your videos and I really love them. They are helpful because when I’m older I want to be a diary farmer just like you and watching your videos are inspiring me to follow my dreams. Thanks have a good day❤
That's awesome to hear thanks! Dairy is a great industry to work in and it's nice working outside and with cows.
There's also alot of opportunity as well so go hard mate
I am from Ireland but work outside in eastern europe, do you get grass growth all year round in NZ
Yes, our stock is outside all year long, but in southern parts of nz it does snow off and on during winter. Where this farmer is grass will be growing all year long, but more slowly in winter.
@@CarolynRobinson-u3j thank you
It really depends where about you are, but the further north you go the more winter growth you will have. this winter has been fairly warm which helps though
Its to uncommon for us to grow more in the winter than the summer
