In this case a soft charcoal pencil is used, mainly because it looks good on the video. The pencils you describe are very good choice, you can also use colored pencils. The tools don't really matter much, with practice you can use all of them to get a good result.
I just began a course in basic drawing technique several weeks ago and, quite frankly, I have learned more watching your drawing than the class room so far. Your use of basic shapes to begin your drawing is perfection and I am grateful that you are sharing your amazing talent with the world. Have you ever done a still life with all white objects? That is my assignment for this week and it would be awesome to see you tackle this. Thank you again. Nice, nice job...............................
Of course, the pencil doesn't matter. Charcoal pencil is harder to draw with unless you are experienced, it looks good on the video because it has strong contrast and that's the main reason it is used here.
@riceballs101 practice.. also try to imagine the line you are drawing before you draw it, also try holding the pencil in different ways and try to draw from different distances..
hey you are really awesome ...!! can you please post video about how you did the initial shading giving requisite tips to draw those diagonal lines etc. please please please help me!!!
amazing talent congratulations on a beautiful drawing.its so surreal how a few outlines and guidepoints can turn into something that looks lifelike on a piece of paper :P
Wow beautiful ....I like it .....tomorrow I have an exam in drawing these things ...could you help me with some advice to drow clear one .....and thanks
you know what your doing and that's a plus what puzzles me is what system of measurement are you using to render the still lifes??? i noticed you occasionally were calculating the proportions of both vases ????
There is no system of measurement, what matters is the proportions between the objects, so that the size relations between them remains the same, so if say the cup is 3.5 times the height of the jug, and the width of the cup is say 3 times it's height etc - these relations should be the same on paper. In this video it is exaggerated for demonstration.
I have heard of people being tone deaf (singing). Is there such a thing for someone like me wanting to learn to draw but lack depth perception? Or, dyslexic somehow. I am trying but it just seems my attempts are coming out flat and lack enough dimension. I am just starting out so maybe expecting to much to fast? Not, giving up, but would love to know some practice drills that might help.
@Avian98X it's not brown, all the pencils are black, the reason some videos look brown is because video was too dark and I enhanced the brightness but it made some videos look brown.
Wow pretty amazing, I draw from life too and I'd say it's pretty fun, though my sketches tend to be a bit more messy than yours. Oh well, I'm still learning, and it's fun learning. :)
i wonder if somebody could help me i'm going to audition for dreyfoos school of the arts and soon i'm going to have to learn how to draw still life drawings for 4 months can anyone give me any tutorials or tips to help me?my audition needs to be the best prevailing moment for me without that school i don't think i could go on with an art career,oh and also before i used to draw anime and most art schools don't accept anyone who draws anime but i can transform that,so please help me if you can!
start from simple objects like cube, ball, cylinder. then move to simple combinations, then to more complex shapes..

for what purpose do you take measurements in your drawings??
you know what your doing and that's a plus

That's really good... but can you draw it without using a rubber???

Oh very nice and helpful! May I ask about how long this still life took?
+Art by Alex about 15 minutes.

In this video only charcoal pencil was used, but you can use the pencils that you described.

I use STAEDTLER 2b, 3b, 5b pencils. Do you just use an ordinary pencil. or a black colour one?
Did you use a real still life as an example or is it an imaginary one?
you made it look so easy!
it is really helpfull 👍👍👍👍👍

@Avian98X it's not brown, all the pencils are black, the reason some videos look brown is because video was too dark and I enhanced the brightness but it made some videos look brown.
