They are one of my all time favorite bands. Funny thing is every time I first hear new material from them I’m underwhelmed, but by the end of the song I’m enthralled by the epic nature of their music. They are truly among the best of what Metal has to offer.
I used to be a fan from their very first time album "Once Sent From The Golden Hall' onto modern material but I started to grow bored with Jomsvking being quite a letdown up to mid album. And then? They seem to have lost all that energy that made them so enjoyable. Fortunately older albums still work with me but that new song shows me no wrong, their best years are now behind them. Period.

Been listening to this band since 1998,the song Death In fire was the first song I heard off a heavy metal compilation CD of different death/black metal bands and that song by a band I'd never heard of before(at the time)Amon Amarths death in fire was by far the best band/song on an album with a dozen other songs from a different band on every track.
My first AA song was The Persuit of Vikings. Date of Norns album and I fell in love. I was at a Halo lan party that ran through two stories of the house and we had metal blasting while we ate pizza and played Halo. Pursuit of Vikings came on and I stopped playing and was like “….what is this..who is this??”

One of the things most overlooked is how much of an Exploration group Vikings were as well. Things like North America, Finland, Greenland, The Silken Trail in China, the Mediterranean, etc. As a matter of fact, Dublin, Ireland was originally a Viking port. It was burned to the ground and rebuilt by Viking and long held the city as a trading port.
Most of the Norse were farmers and traders. Very few of them actually raided, and even the amount of raids has been vastly overstated. They were actually very civilized and made huge waves in seafaring technology and trade routes.
Nor to mention the vikings were actually traders and its been proven that they even traded with the alaskan inuit natives as well. Yes, they were fierce warriors and conquerors but above all they remined humble, and extremely family oriented. Tbh the time of their invasion on england was around the time of catholic crusades and the catholic church attempted to convert them, they resisted. then was attacked, they merely responded to the transgression. Slavery has followed behind every conquered peoples regardless of qho was conquering rember the romans as heathens how about the romans the romans as catholic. The persians conquered and enslaved its how its always been. the strong conquer the weak, the weak do the bidding of the strong. The silver for your pockets, the gold for the gods.
Historic anecdotes aside, I enjoyed this song, but I hope the other album tracks we have yet to hear are faster and more fierce than these first 2 tracks they’ve shared with us. We Amon Amarth fans deserve a rager of an album!

The timing of this song's release is scary cos I'm about halfway through season 5 of Vikings. I've been hyperfixating on medieval Scandinavian history and mythology for the last six or so years and I've learned so much -- it's this interest that's compelled me to watch Vikings in the first place. I have a lot of respect for the figure of Ivar the Boneless, especially as someone who is disabled myself. To think that, supposedly, someone with something like brittle bone disease (with some other interpretations of-note here and there) not only learned to live with this disability but conquered it and became such a badass as a result. Me (18M) and my partner (17M) have plans to one day get a surrogate mother or something-or-other and we have plans to, if we have a son, name him Ivar and if we have a daughter to name her something like Astrid. Though we are torn between a bunch of names! My brother introduced me to AA and I in turn introduced my partner to AA. Stoked to see all these killer new releases.
