He's the best! I saw the Obsessed at the Troc in Philly. I thought Wino was scary as shit. I told him I loved the gig, (it was AWESOME!) and that if I wasn't so broke I'd love to buy him a beer and a shot. He said "Wait there". Five minutes later he came back with a gym bag with a case of beer in it and some Obsessed shirts for me and my buddies. Fucking great guy! Long live Wino!
You’re absolutely right, Detective Pigdick - you’ve caught me, I get my kicks by posting make believe niceties about obscure doom-metal vocalists, on UA-cam!
Well done, you fucking doorknob!🙄
The very fact Wino is respected by such a diverse spectrum of musicians/artists says it all about how talented he is. He's a true Legend from the American underground. Period.
The Obsessed is a band that once you're in, you're in it for life.
yep. Sodden Jackal
I love The Obsessed And Saint Vitus.I love how Henry Rollins always sticks up for all of metal..
Why does Henry Rollins opinion matter? He wasn’t even the best singer in black flag and the Rollins band is one of the shittiest bands in American history.
and then you have guys like ian mackaye who wont even refer to the obsessed as metal because hes not allowed to like a metal band. what a joke
@do br
You have horrid taste. Rollins is a congenital clodpate who strives for profundity only to fail exceedingly.
@@warshipsatin8764 That bloke in the shorts was annoying, this documentary made The Obsessed seem like a popular band annoying people like.
Wino kind of looks like a young Lemmy.
Saw the Obsessed in 1984 Tremendous, Powerful and Loud, Rocking!
6:41 Cyrus on "Trailer Park Boys" always reminds me of Tesco Vee. In attitude as well as looks.
Oh, and The Obsessed rock, obviously.
Hahahah same thoughts mate!
9mm pistol, safety always off! (Tucks into front of pants and sits down hard) Dad gave it to me, told me he was proud of me once. Bastard.
Oh shit - I never thought of that! 😂
😂😂
Thanks for posting this! I've had the VHS forever and now I can share this with all my buds. Righteous! Since the final(?) Obsessed album, The Church Within, Wino has gone on to play in such bands as Spirit Caravan, The Hidden Hand, Place of Skulls, Shrinebuilder, Premonition 13, and solo albums, and is still playing with the re-formed (and godlike) Saint Vitus.
Cool vid, I was fortunate to see him with Vitus this past June opening for Sleep
I saw The Obsessed when Church Within was released supporting Prong & Life of Agony in England ! Fucking stellar band live then & now !
I hung out with the Obsessed in the 80s when I worked at Peaches in Rockville MD. Anne Forrest. I KNOW!!
Henry rollins and wino love motorhead that's cool
Most awesome thing
Henry sucks
The Obsessed just released a new album after 20 years called Scared. It is a great album the best of the year so far.
I loved Sacred on first listen but its growing stronger and stronger with me. This might be Wino's finest work.
Just saw them in October of this year in Bristol The Exchange. He announced they’re releasing a new album and it’ll be his heaviest yet, Wino still sounds and plays fucking amazingly.
Very underrated band
I now have this compulsion to hear everything this band has ever recorded.
You would like my collection because I have everything that has ever been put on a CD including Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Place of Skulls, The Hidden Hand, Shrine Builder, and Premonition 13.
u forgot spirit caravan
Yes Spirit Caravan was great. To me Spirit Caravan was always a continuation of the Obsessed only more refined.
new obssesed out april 7th!
Cube Hire
LOVE Shrinebuilder!
The Obsessed > Your favorite band
but The Obsessed is a favorite band of mine
“The Obsessed have the sound of a man getting angry.........very slowly...”🤘😁

Steeped in PUNK ROCK like 9 years later!!!
Would fall in and never come out!!!
🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🍻🍻 PUNX!!!✊
Seriously. Black Flag, Motorhead, and The Obsessed. It is a great playlist to drink booze with. You get a little bit of punk, metal, and old school rock with everything in between
.
I agree
good to get stoned to too😊
That sounds fucking heavenly. Any room for Judas Priest?
I fucking love B.A.L.L man. Going to have to check these guys out!!!
Diggin’ them Maryland accents.
I saw them open for The Dead Boys at 9:30 club with Vance on vocals,unreal....Vance was pissing the crowd off, getting them ready for Dead Boys...Obsessed killed...
Great band. I remember talking to Wino after a gig in Newport and i said your fucking set was best iv ever seen man,so he hugged me! I didnt know what to do.Haha Top man, down to earth.
Tom Lyle's commentary is amazing.... the fact that he was challenged to understand Wino's musicianship says a lot about how unique it is....
100%. Lyle is probably the most underrated guitarist in 80a hardcore.
Haha What a Legend. This just confirms his status as a leading light. No bullshit just honest down to earth good person.
see them at Dynamo open air in 1994 , great gig.
Greetings From DC!
now i have motivation to finish my work so i can watch this
Criminally underrated band.
man, i never really realized before how much the melvins took from the obsessed! seriously........the melvins sound like the obsessed with a different singer and a better drummer lol
Were they the original stoner rock?
@@22mikelwho I'm not sure.....
man, gotta love phil anselmo! drunk, tired, rapping his duty, craving the great outdoors.
typical 90s thing: juxtapostion to H Rollins.
The lost promotape!
nvm, think i found it. thank you for posting this on youtube, it's awesome
I have this documentary on video cassette.Awesome band.
My buddy met Wino tonight. The obsessed played with COC and Crowbar in Philly. I'm at home watching this documentary on my toilet. Fuck my life lol
"You gotta be a big freak to watch that concert"
Sonic More Music Bit Freaky * (?
I can’t believe that Henry Rollins is calling Wino intense when Henry is the literal definition of intensity
A flaming liberal can only be so intense
@@justinschexnayder8485 idk man, even flaming liberals get pretty intense lol
@@bassrocks4419 rent-a-jock intensity.
Garfield is a rich boy that went to Dartmouth.
I mean Bullis
I like how Ian says Bad Bain.
Got this on VHS and a guant sticker from Columbia Records. They sunk a ton of of money promoting The Church Within. It was just not the right time but its a classic.
a sea of baldheads shouting "haircut!, haircut!"... brilliant
That's entertainment. Drugs & Drugs & Rock'n'Roll
The Sherman cameo is all kinds of hilarious.
so young back then
wino is Lemmy of doom rock
I wish my dad was Wino.
Wino is fucking scary with makeup!!
Really a great guitarist and singer...love all his projects!!
Good for you, buddy!
7:09 damn that's some fucking great riffing to start a song
Nice!👍
@MMAlign Streetside! Thanks
Henry!!!!!!
DOOM METAL IS REAL METAL.
Dave Sherman from Spirit Caravan and Earthride is a trip in this! haha
+ironsabbath18 Dave Sherman wants to be Wino more than anyone I've ever met. When he and Gary Isom got to be come Wino's bandmates when Spirit Caravan was formed, Sherman and Gary were in heaven! It's like they were walking on clouds they were so elated and so overwhelmed to be in a band with their hero!
I heard a rumor that Spirit Caravan is going to reform.
Must be the mandala effect. Never heard of this band, ever. Been a metal fan all my life, am intimately familiar with Fugazi--and all the other bands. Fucked up yo
Vitus Obsessed Lifer

@ArcadeGoblin
"Forever Midnight" from the first album
Imagine being Rollins and living in an agoraphobic world thinking everyone is staring at your haircut and judging it deeply… this man romanticizes anything
great comeback haha
@MMAlign THANK YOU SO FUCKIN MUCH!
It just goes to show just how close minded most punk rockers are.
I don't think that The Obsessed will ever get what they deserve;unfortunately.!!.Just my opinion!
i wanna be scott 'wino' weinrich! the way he wanted to be tony iommi!.well i wanna be those guys then!.
Now we know we're lemmy got his look
10 people just don't get it.
What's the name of the first song in the intro?
"Streetside."
Wino has amazing tone but I never really connected w Obsessed or Saint Vitus in the way others did. Still, amazing tone.

You mean 10:26?
what is the song in the background at 25:06 - 25:11
W A S P “Forever Midnight”
That fan, Dave Sherman, is the same Dave who played (or still play, I don't know) with Wino on Spirit Caravan? I think it is...
Yes that was Dave Sherman of Earthride who was a band member of the Obsessed.
I mostly watched this for other commentators like Henry Rollins, Dale Crover, Ian Mackaye, Scream..etc.
Um, was Henry referring to S.O.A or Black Flag I wonder?
I think SOA, because when he joined Black Flag, he stopped working at Hägen Dasz before I guess.
@@maikado9103then moved to LA.
Wino is pretty much the David Allan Coe of doom metal
nah it's real...it's not a serious documentary though, it's done in a lighthearted way.
great doc. love the obsessed...one thing, Jennifer from L7 looks like a grade A tweaker.
Was she ?
Kinda
Half of them seem strung out.
@ThemFunnyLookinGuys
I give you a hint: listen to Henry at 1:40 and ask yourself, WHAT he would have liked to switch, when Wino was coming across him :)

Just what I was thinking
Saint Vitus is better
Incorrect. But I do like Saint Vitus.
You can't really compare the two. The base of the sound might be same but the style is totally different. The Obsessed has kind of a hard rock edge to their sound. While Vitus is primarily traditional doom, some punky sections here and there with lo-fi production.
Is neither better or worse. St Vitus is another band where no one can copy. It's special.
And Wino brought 'The Obsessed' sound to some Vitus songs, like Ice Monkey and Dragon Time.
Lynrdy Skynyrd like. In some songs
lol is this serious or a joke really is this foreal ha ha
sobered up yet pal?
The more I hear Rollins talk, the more I realize that he is pretty much a lackluster talent living off a couple moments that he got right.
😂😂
Yeah but what have you done with your life?
It’s cool if you don’t like his style but I’d say touring America /europe every year for 6 years and getting spit on and disprespected endlessly is pretty tough. I feel like he earned his stripes but that’s just me.
Look in the mirror, loser.
so i'm gonna get some shit for this, but while i happen to think wino is the man, i'm a little skeptical and think all these claims of the obsessed and saint vitus being epic and legendary are overstated and have more to do with guys fan-girling over his persona rather than his music. while i love wino's guitar playing, i actually think he's a pretty lousy vocalist and lyricist. saint vitus is just awful and the obsessed has like 3 good songs, which is kind of pitiful for the amount of material they've put out. there's a LOT of filler material. i think wino could do a lot better if he was in a band where he was really relegated to guitar playing and left the vocals/lyrics to someone else. even his song-writing i feel is very hit or miss. for every brilliant song, there's 7 mediocre/bad ones where there's a lot of awkward pauses, the chorus and verses don't flow together and there riffs are sort of lack-luster. i'm not hating on him at all. i love wino but i'm gonna call bullshit on about half of this video.
You're an idiot. Sorry, but what the fuck have you done with your life?
Sounds like your fan girling over his persona.... How are you going to call him the man than say he's a shitty song writer, your a confused little child. No need to apply here keep moving
I can't agree with you because your just wrong.
3 good songs? LOL! You must be deaf...
I agree although Saint Vitus is pretty damn good
10:10 RIP Dave Sherman
