Great video! Some comments for ya.
Scars wording is PROBABLY frozen (please, oh please). Might change the Scars table a bit to make it more visually obvious.
Re: procedures. The Warden's Guide will have A LOT of info on how to run them at the table (for non-players). I might make a video explaining them (especially Wilderness Exploration). Examples will probably help you A LOT. But those don't' go in the player's guide.
Re: Backgrounds. They won't be expanded... unless there are some guest writers in the KS next March or something.
Re: Character sheet Armor bubble, I actually agree with you: it should be near HP. The reason it isn't is because if you ARE deprived, you need to remember that when looking at HP. So I sort of settled on it like that. Also did you notice the sword in the landscape character sheet? Does it look familiar?
And yes, lots of stuff coming for Vald in the Warden's Guide.
The character keeper is SICK. It includes all the backgrounds, omens, bonds etc but also has inventory management, hirelings, containers, party management etc. And it's gonna be open source!!!! It's python/flask + JS.
Also: make your players roll Die of Fate! I do it A LOT.

Thanks for the extra info Yochai! I did notice the sword in both character sheets, I thought that was a nice touch! I'm pumped to check out the Character Keeper when it's unveiled, and I may even contribute to it since it's going to be open source! That's awesome, keep up the great work!

I always thought calling it the scars table made it sound like something you rolled, whereas if you cleed it a chart people would be more inclined to look at the result (being the actual HP you took to reduce you to 0).

@@SoloBattles yeah we're playing around with different formatting. Like, not a table at all!

Will the warden's guide have GM advice like the section in Electric Bastionland? I come back to those chapters no matter the setting and if things like the die of fate and reference tables for the procedures are included it would be such a good tool not only for running Cairn but also just hacking it for many other games. Or is the Warden's guide going to mostly be a setting book? The GM advice from Electric Bastionland is invaluable in running Cairn. Things like how to handle a dilemma and the importance of Information, Choice, and Impact are almost required to make a rules-lite game really shine at the table in my opinion.

I appreciate all the focus you're giving Cairn. I love the game. If you want to do backgrounds, I'd be interested. Any Cairn content really, I'm all in.

It's funny you should mention backgrounds, I'm delving into those. Got a video about the Aurifex dropping today in about 40 minutes!

I’m the same as you with the procedures! Also a competent guitarist (& operatic tenor) must be a musicians brains 😂
    Great channel!

Great review, Axe Wizard! I'm as excited as you are for 2e.
I like a formal downtime procedure because I feel that can be a time where the GM says "What do you want to do?" And the oarty just kind of flails about trying to come up with something. Like anything, you can divert from the peocedure as much as feels right. Heroquest did this, and it played so smooth.

Can you make an AI warden? With graphics for a quick 1 hour single player session. Voice activation for road trips

App idea: make a dice roller that let you roll tables, so you can create characters and roll or select from any table you throw in. Make an html file with tables, put in the same folder as the app and select it what you want. You can imput any tables from any game. Also, if the app let's you create and save tables on the fly, it would be great! This way you don't need to keep print material and dice, but you can imput from a number from dice if you want, or look at the entire table if you need to. Do not forget to allow a custom die option, so you can set any range of numbers you choose, and exclude from the list numbers you already rolled, if you want to.

Cool! I played some Cairn 2e and it is great.
I am used to procedures since I play hexcrawl games and they are very handy for those who need some structure to play.
The second character sheet is better, it has more space to write stuff.

I think my problem with procedures is that I haven't been able to invest some solid time into actually testing them and working through it, hoping to tackle those at some point soon as I think they could be really useful!

Regarding 2e, the thing that i dont like is that the implicit setting is to Gonzo (for me) and many of the backgrounds are tied to it .

I get your point, but at this point, I'd like to point out two points, the first is that any new system always comes with an ideal world to run in, and secondly, I got carried away with using point. 😄
FWIW, I already have a campaign based on Heart of Darkness by Steven Conrad, that I think will work wonderfully with Cairn.

How did you manage to use point 5 times in a single sentence and it makes sence😂

    Very cool.
However, what’s the real difference playing OD&D or B/X and quite simply having concise backgrounds?
Out of four human fighters, one is a stubborn, rural dude (the DM is gonna give him a bonus on such things if he’s a decent DM), whilst another says “well, having a ST of 10 but an INT of 13, I’m a hoiity-toity, city dude. My uncle was captain of the guard. Taught me what I know til I served. TIL then I was in the library.” Another point for the DM. Cool. Fun.
    Cool.
Etc, etc. lotsa fun stuff….if they survive.
But none of this requires a game system….
    So…again… why Cairn?
I’m not bashing it. I’m not.
But all I see are things quite easily done in older systems already and quickly and easily, too.
    Hence my confusion. 🤷‍♂️
