Multiplatinum-selling artist Isaac Hayes, dubbed “Black Moses” during the height of his popularity, revolutionized soul music, leading it out of the era of the three-minute single into a new area-the orchestrated concept album with (very) extended cuts.
Hayes began his career as a pianist and staff writer for Stax Records, and, alongside songwriting partner David Porter, wrote some of the biggest hits of the 1960’s, including “Soul Man” and “Hold On! I’m Comin’” for Sam & Dave.
Expanding his repertoire, Hayes penned the iconic soundtrack for 1971’s Shaft. The album became Hayes’s fourth consecutive platinum LP and the “Theme from Shaft” earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Though often known for his larger than life persona, Hayes’ musical accomplishments - which laid the groundwork for disco and rap - established him as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Who is listening in 2024. I grew up listening to this played by my mother
It's been 11 years since we lost Isaac. But his legacy will never die.
I will listen to him until my last breath
@@kdm222 Me too i have his CDs very powerful Band playing and yes he did the organ and piano
@@kdm222 puppies and Dogs Have no interest at the same price and
He was the best. Love this song.
It's been 15 years since & I love this version of this song & I always lose it in tears at the end of "Soul Men" movie. This song is dedicated to my favorite heroes in my childhood who were in heaven: Robin Williams, Gilbert Gottfried, Kevin Conroy, Jason David Frank, Clarence Gilyard, Ray Stevenson, Pee-Wee Herman, Jim Brown, & The Black Moses himself Issac Hayes. Rest in Lyrics & paradise & thank you.
I'm 65 and I don't listen to anything that takes me away from my roots when music meant more than just relaxing.
ISAAC HAYES, A HUMBLE SUPER STAR LEGEND. HE WAS ALSO THE VICE PRESIDENT OF STAX RECORDS. I KNEW HIM WELL DUE TO BEING THE RECORDING BASSIST ON THE BLACK MOSES ALBUM. HERE WE PLAY ONE OF HIS ARRANGEMENTS, NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE LIVE AND IN CONCERT. A GREAT PERSON TO HAVE KNOWN!
Wow, thanks for sharing that! Awesome playing on a great album!.

ISAAC HAYES TIMELESS HANDS DOWN!!
This is a good concept for the song. I just prefer Michael J's emotional singing style.
Who's here in in 2024? every song from this album from 1971 was great

Facts !!!!!!
RIP Isaac Hayes. You were so multi- talented:actor, singer, musician and so funny. Definitely unsung. 💖🤩
May 24th 2023, still going strong. Thank you Black Moses.
HE WAS CALLED BLACK MOSES BECAUSE HE HAD A WAY TO ARANGE A SONG AND MAKE IT HIS OWN. HIS MUSIC WAS FUNKY, CLASSIC, SMOOTH, BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE. I'M 65 BORN IN 1956, I'VE ALWAYS LOVED AND STILL LOVE HIS STYLE OF MUSIC. AND THAT INFLUENCED AND VOICE, YO ISAAC HAYES WAS PUTTIN IT DOWN, STRONG & SEXY, SMOOTH WITH A GROOVE. HIS MUSIC WOULD DIFFANELTY PUT YOU IN A MOOD, HE IS SO COOL HOW HE COULD AND WOULD PUT YOU IN "THAT MOOD". HIS MUSIC MADE ME SOMETIMES CRY IF MY HEART WAS DOWN AND I MISSED MY WOMAN, EVEN WHEN HE TOLD THE WOMAN IT WAS OVER HE WAS SO COOL WITH IT. LIKE WHEN HE SANG "NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP", DAMN SO COLD WITH IT WHEN HE BEGED. I CLOSE MY EYES AND JUST LET THE MUSIC TAKE ME AWAY. WE MISS YOU BLACK MOSES, I THANK GOD FOR YOUR GIFT OF MUSIC, AND I THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MUSIC YOU LEFT US, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY ONE OF A KIND, REST IN PARADISE FOREVER 😎🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎼🎤💓 LISTENING TO BLACK MOSES IN 2021 AND FOREVER MORE 👍👑💃✊😎

He was and still is The Black Moses
He sang the hell out of this song!!!!
RIP Isaac Hayes. I truly miss your performances and singing!
They don’t make music like this anymore, it crossed ALL barriers, even way back then
@@kdm222 They do, but it's harder to find. Look up Michael Kiwanuka.
He should be still alive. This song proves that he had two souls!
The flutes add just the right touch
2023 and I am still playing this in my car. I love this version his way.
I am too and I agree. How one man did just as good as MICHAEL JACKSON AND HIS BROTHERS SINGING THE SAME SONG...BY HIMSELF. Will never not be amazing to me. My wife and I are 29 and when our siblings or our mothers have our 3 kids on a Friday night or Saturday night this is likely on the Playlist we play as we massage each other's feet and talk about our week before we watch some movies or do...something else. Lol. Outside of Silk Sonic and a few others it is so hard to come across beautiful music like this anymore. Our oldest was born when we were 15 and often jokes about how we're simultaneously the youngest parents and the oldest parents of his group of friends, 😂😂😂. Guilty as charged. We gladly accept that indictment. To listen to audible art rather than make a song they're not passionate about, they don't really care about, don't care what they're saying, just using a beautiful and Devine talent given to them to line their pockets and just making something that will sell more so than something that'll be felt. I was 7 years old when my father played this album, sat my mother on his lap and held her, as they sat on the porch listening to the rain. My lil sister used to be terrified of storms and this song was one of the only things that would comfort her. There are many things that one can feel when listening to this beautiful album
@michaelmidax8108 I enjoyed reading your post. Thank you for sharing . This music will always stand the test of time. Take care and sending Cali love. ✌️.
it's dec 2023. who's listening. God blessed us with you precious Issac. ty for sharing you with us. your always be loved. Heaven gained an angel we lost.😢😢😢😢❤❤❤ Dec. 2023
🔥🔥💯💯🦾🦾👀😘🎶
His voice..mercy😶
No comparison. True raw soul. Totally naked. GENIUS
I know rite
2024, y’all and want more and more tomorrow day after and after and repeat again and again. Deep in pain missing the good old days...Lord pls bless me with a reverse of my regrets.
I bought the original album back in 1971. The album cover unfolded in the shape of a cross. I had that hanging on my room wall for a few weeks until my mom suggested I take it down. Awesome album.
excellent musician, songwriter and I will never forget him calling James Garner "Rockfish" on the Rockford Files show from the 70's...
Gandy Fitch always Jim Rockford “Rockfish” and it always get Jim Rockford annoyed and both of them can’t get along. Isaac Hayes played Gandy on three episodes of the Rockford Files:1 episode in 1976 during the show’s second season and 2 episodes in 1977( 1 episode during the show’s third season with Lou Gossett and 1 episode during the show’s fourth season with Dionne Warwick).
"The Hammer of C Block"! A great singer AND a great actor! RIP "Gandy".
This album, in it's entirely is a real piece of artwork and a master piece.
My mother used to play the greats, Isaac Hayes, Barry White. Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire. The Fifth Dimension. Man I would be in awe
I never can say goodbye, no, no, no, no, now
Never can say goodbye
Even though the pain and heartache
Seem to follow me wherever I go
Though I try and try to hide my feelings
They always seem to show,
Then you try to say you're leaving me
And I always have to say no
Tell me why is it so
That I never can say goodbye, no, no, no, no, now
Never can say goodbye
Every time I think I've had enough
And start heading for the door
There's a very strange vibration
Piercing me right through the core
It says, turn around, you fool
You know you love him more and more
Tell me why is it so
Don't wanna let you go
I never can say goodbye girl
Ooh ooh baby (don't wanna let you go girl)
I never can say goodbye, no no no, no no no
Ooh, oh I never can say goodbye girl
Ooh ooh ooh (don't wanna let you go girl)
I never can say goodbye, no no no, no no no, ooh
Never can say goodbye, no, no, no, no, now
Never can say goodbye
I keep thinking that our problems
Soon are all gonna work out
But there's that same unhappy feeling
There's that anguish, there's that doubt
It's the same old dizzy hangup
Can't do with you or without
Tell me why is it so
Don't wanna let you go
I never can say goodbye girl
Ooh ooh baby (hey baby)
I never can say goodbye, no no no, no no no
Ooh, oh I never can say goodbye girl
Ooh oh (hey baby)
I never can say goodbye, no no no, no no no, ooh
I never can say goodbye girl
Ooh ooh baby (hey baby)
I never can say goodbye, no no no, no no no
Ooh, oh I never can say goodbye girl
Ooh oh (hey baby)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE WHOM PASSED AWAY 12/6/2015
One of my favorite renditions of a song, I.H.takes it to further heights with his own unique blend of talents
If u see wstking hown street pass me by
Gloria Gaynor (1974) then The Communards (1987) took it to further heights
Instead of counting down and rushing through all the sections, he takes his time. Now the sections seem a lot fresher. But he was a composer, so we should expect that.
I always remembered this melody since I was an adolescents, I am 59 years old now and still love this song, Michael Jackson was excellent as well , may both these KINGS of music rip , thanks for the beautiful melody and the music.
Black Moses
R.I.P.
Never stopped listening....NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRY!! 🎶❤️🎶
This takes me back to my very first love- I loved this album and always will. Soul music was not very popular in Australia in the 70s- most radio stations played more pop music, but my boyfriend was a DJ who brought great soul albums back from America when he traveled there.
I'm from Sydney and we are currently in lockdown because of covid which has managed to find it's way in to Australia- after being covid free for 18 months! This is a good time to reminisce about times gone by and to play all these amazing soul songs from the 70s! Isaac will always be one of my favourites- so sad he's gone.
Always loved this version. Only thing I can think about the...thumbs down votes....is teeny boppers first heard Jackson 5 version and this is just too Grown Up for them.....lol
This is a real man singing. Maybe they are not familiar with love of a real man!
The "teenyboppers" ironically, who would prefer the Jackson 5 version, are grandmothers now. Personally I like all three versions, J5's, Issac's, and Gloria Gaynor's.
I'm from Portugal Jennifer, and I've been listening to Isaac since 1970, residing in Holland. Today I continue to listen and I love it.
🔥🔥🔥🦾🦾💯💯💯👀
I'm 13 and love old music he is a legend I love all the covers to never can say goodbye
ITS NOT OLD MUSIC FAM, ITS QUALITY MUSIC.
@@user-rc2rk9eu4n Timeless also
Great arrangement he was so talented this version is exceptional
Love his voice!
Such a great song, and such a strong interpretation of it.
Well done ✅👍 my friend rest in peace 🕊️✌️. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
KING ISAAC !!! ⭐️🔥👑🔥⭐️
As I said before : this kind of music ,Heaven Thank‘s,will never die.
Love this song this song takes you back in time.
Cool version of a great Clifton Davis composition. Still, the Communards (with Jimmy Sommerville singing lead) is probably my favourite version. Also, it's a classic 80's video. SO 80's.
Issac Hayes is a "bad mother shut your mouth" my mother loved
Black Moses smooth and rhythmic
This version, is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Bottom of the soul. My favorite
The Jackson 5 version will always be great but this version is smooth and relaxing Issac Hayes did his thing on this track 😎
Sung completely different and both versions are perfect. The fact MJ sang it when he was 11-12 is incredible.
He will always be ........
God blessed us with you dear Issac it hurts you had to go. I'll never forget you. 😢😢❤❤❤😢😢
🦾🦾🦾💯💯🔥🔥🔥
I Love His Voice
Issac heard Michael sing this and said, "That kid is too young to be singing a song like this. I should be singing a song like this!"
I used to drive by his house in Memphis, East Memphis, a big road off Poplar, with beautiful Greek columns on the front porch.
The Black Moses from 1971 must go down as Isaac Hayes greatest album next to Shaft, it is brimming with so much goodies, an album i highly recommend if you missed it back then, this track a cover version, has also been done by many, not forgetting little Michael Jackson's
Also Hot Buttered Soul......
love you Mr.Hayes....rest in peace
