Los byrds son fantasticos
Byrds had so many under-appreciated and under-achieving songs! Tremendous group ahead of their time.
OMG l am 75 and a teen through the 60s and enjoyed the London club scene but all of us thought The Byrds outstripped the likes of The Beatles and The Stones by miles! Hanging on my wall since the 60s is a signed LP cover of Mr Tambourine Man by the entire group. I still listen to them 2 or 3 times a week! As good today
We were sad they burned out as fast as they did, but saw them twice in 1966, my freshman year of college, they played our campus, fab, just fab !!! But if not for the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Animals, The Zombies, The Cream, Procol Harem the Yardbirds, and so many greats from UK, well I am ashamed to say, America would have just had Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, they would have tried to crush Elvis too, but the King survived !!!! Rock On Roger Byron Collins !!!
Outta sight, man.
@Robert W. Cox Cream...Supreme!
I failed to get their autographs when I met them in mid-1965. The only guy I didn’t meet was Mike Clarke. I finally got Chris Hillmans’s, Roger McGuinn’s, and David Crosby’s. I was recording in Hollywood at the time at studio A at Capitol.
❤ 71 going on 18, my brother in Rock and Roll. 😊
Those harmonies. The American Beatles.
This song & the " "Younger Than Yesterday" album which it is on both withstand the test of time. The Byrds are one of the best bands ever.
One of the classic songs by a classic band that ranks among the best ever. The harmonies on this are just breathtaking, a kind of vocal quality that is their signature. You can hear McGuinn and Crosby with equal weight in the vocals and I think Hillman is in the mix in a way that those voices merge and become one. What a great performance.
Two minutes of sheer pleasure. That keening trumpet from Hugh Masekela adds a really sexy Latin edge to those fantastic bass lines. Glorious: you want it last forever. The interplay of voices and bass is perfection.
Hugh Masekala: great South African trumpeter
Learned something new after 56 years. I didn't know Hugh played on this. Thanks !!
the trumpet makes Rock & Roll Star hands down the BEST Rock song from the Birds....
it's under appreciated just what a Classic this is....🎉🎉🎉❤
Greatest band of their times. Hippie or whatever they rocked 🎺🎸❣️🥀🌹🌷💗🎸🎺
HIPPIE?? YA HAD TO BE THERE !!!
Hippie? Well, no.....
Ya had to be there !!! PERFECT!@@rogercruz8704

Genius putting the screaming girls in!
👍🏽😊
Interesting, I kind of hate that. It interrupts the laid back sounding music
2 minutes and 7 seconds of pure perfection.
Gary Usher genious production. You can hear every instrument and sound effect so crystal clear !
Way back ahead of it's time--no shit--brilliant top notch insistent bass line
Chris Hillman.
Chris Hillman's bass playing is underrated and barely mentioned
Now that is true in my opinion. Just listen to his bass line in 8 Miles High.
What makes you believe he's underrated?
Like most bassists.
@@gogoyubari366 It's the inevitable UA-cam "underrated" comment about an acclaimed musician.
I adore Chris Hillman
most of the time is as heavy as Jah Wobble with PIL
Such a brilliant album holds up so well after all these years!
Best opening for a song-EVER!!!
yes yes
Still sounds good 50 years on
The Byrds are the greatest rock band of all time
So you want to be a rock'n'roll star
Then listen now to what I say
Just get an electric guitar
And take some time and learn how to play
And when your hair's combed right and your pants fit tight
It's gonna be all right
Then it's time to go down town
Where the agent men won't let you down
Sell your soul to the company
Who are waiting there to sell plastic ware
And in a week or two if you make the charts
The girls will tear you apart
What you pay for your riches and fame
Was it all a strange game
You're a little insane
The money that came and the public acclaim
Don't forget what you are
You're a rock'n'roll star
Lalalalalalala
Thank you for the lyrics, it really helps.
Had the pleasure of talking with Roger McGuinn on board The Queen Mary II 12-12-23 on a transatlantic crossing , a legend and one of my favorite vocalists. Cunard is a 1ST class company and so are there invited lecturers , a remarkable person is he ……Thanks for the great sounds you gave us !!
Lucky you. Glad you got to meet him. He looks good for being in his 80s. Him and Chris Hillman are the last two survivors fro the original lineup
Soon to be 78 yrs of age ,I have all their albums and have followed them from their very beginning. They have always been considered the "American Beatles " and have had a fierce following , even in the UK, They are a supergroup with great musical talents that resonate in their vocals and harmonizing guitars. McGuins 12 string Rickenbacker has few rivals. Their music is immortal and will never grow tired. Drafted after graduation from ,Illinois State University , we listened to them incessantly while i was in the Medical Corps treating casualties.in the Op Rm, ...Dana Disabled Vn Era Veteran Surgery Tech @ Combat Medic First Army MEDDAC Dept Surgery @ CMS Veteran Employment Rep, [ Ret ] God Bless !!! db
Great opening Riff, and this is all Chris Hillman's Bass!
+pbruc brooks Hugh Masakella plays trumpet 0:20
Chris Hillman very GREAT rock stars and very underated. I've seen him several times
Yep that's the Byrds!
Hillman's bass on Rock and Roll Star was revelutionary - had to inspire Hendrix bass on watchtower and Clapton's bass on Let it Rain
Impressive
You just can't fuck with that opening riff.
One of the MOST underrated bands of all times...such an influence
I was into the music scene since the early 1960s and I never knew anybody who thought the Byrds were under rated.
Not underrated at all.
They’re in the HOF not underrated at all.
Excelente versión de Charly!!
Rest in power Hugh Masekela who played trumpet on this track
Hugh had a huge hit with a jazzy, instrumental version of Grazing In The Grass.
Wow! Great Rock & Roll fact!!
Wow
@@mannyruiz1954 Hugh was also once married to South African songstress and activist Miriam Makeba.
Didn't know this. Cool! :)
Awesome on so many levels. One of the best songs about the relationship between musicians and the music machinery. Cynical but self-aware.
The Byrds made in America!
Pure joy.
Name me anyone who can now deliver two minutes of musical genius...…….

One of the first bass parts I taught myself when I was 12 and listening to my dad's records, learning how to play. Still one of my top favs.
One of the top 10 of all time.
Love this song. All American rock n Roll.
That bass !
Man the Wrecking Crew is absolutely amazing...
@@jeffmurdock8321 I admire the voices even if they weren’t the players…. Sometimes the voice makes that impactful difference
No wrecking crew on this one, Hugh Masakela on trumpet and Big Black on percussion.
, what’s the point of your comment? Waste of oxygen on this plant, you know nothing about The Byrds or you wouldn’t make such a stupid remark, try watching Ed Sullivan show, live version of Turn Turn Turn ,
@@kmtdes180.. WC on 1st single only. And McGuinn arranged MTM and played the 12 string, intro lick is his as well. Byrds only had contract for a single,
Classic and that's putting it mildly. The guitar riffs from the opening are so cool. The crowd screams are often identified as from Beatles concerts. Criminal this never made it past #29 but it's more popular now than when new.
Byrd's concert in Bournemouth, 1965.
A Byrds concert in England
Wow! I have never heard a Rock 'n' Rock song that had a guiro being played.
Beatles "Tell Me What You See"
Probs a few Stones songs
Ah so that's what that thing is!
My favorite song from Byrds😉😉
...👍🏽😊Mine too!
Brother Dennis check out have you seen her face they are so similar in compare and so beautiful to hear as well peace everyone.
This is a very good song first time hearing it 🤠
This is all very good advice. I'm taking notes.
Clarance White was my Neighbor back in the early 70 s he was real cool he drove a little yellow pinto . RIP . Clarance 🦋
I was blessed with a chance to sit down and play his old Martin guitar with the oversized sound hole that Tony Rice was owner of at the time. I know his old guitar tech and he happened to have it in his shop and it was just sitting in a case ready to play. It’s was such a treat. I would have loved to be able to visit with Clarence White. I’ve heard he was a very kind man
If you make the charts....
Happy birthday Roger McGuinn!
Love the tempo on this song - Tom Petty did a great tribute
Now 2020 but i still love this song!!!😍😍
Why would you ever disregard something you love?
It's on my top 10 list.
oh god how i love... 😔❤️
I had all their albums till Crosby left. One of two cornerstones. Buffalo Springfield was the other.
IMHO the best song they released in '66...maybe all time...

Fantastic song 👌🏻❤️🔥😎
Omg what a memory❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤and dancing to it so crazy!!¡!!!!!
The song is telling the truth!! And still going on in 2023 and 2024
I want to be a rock & roll star !
The horns are brilliant too

Hillman’s bass line makes it
Off on the right channel you can hear Hugh Masakela on trumpet.....Hillman's bass is outstanding... you know the rest.
RIGHT NOW! IAM PLAYING A AIR GUITAR
Great song! I first discovered the Roxette's version from the MTV Unplugged, but, even being a Roxette fan, I like both!
Was watching Laurel Canyon on Epix cable channel--and this was played at the end of Pt. 1 --wow ! That electrical guitar says it all !! Am a big fan of The Byrds.
This song was also played on The Country Bears.
I'm here I have the gravity you have the soul, but I'm no business man, just have raw talent
Does anyone know for certain who sang the three part harmonies in the final verse? Is it Hillman carrying the main tune in the middle voice, McGuinn below and Crosby on top?
The good old days reminds me of Kenny say on real Milwaukee Wisconsin
LOve It! More Byrds! --Don
I heard that Chris Hillman wrote this as kind of a slap at The Monkees. I don't know if that's true or not but that's what I heard.
Kevin Arnold reminded me to come back here
Everyone wanted to play guitar back then . Now they want video games and video game sounds .
Have the vinyl...1966

No te olvides tu eléctrico fin
Aprendé a grabar adentro de un placard
Y si alguien te va a discutir, no te olvides jamás
Sos un rock and roll star
R.I.P. David Crosby...
I prefer to be a rock-pop world or galaxie than a rock star. ;)
Poking fun at the game
Whoa. Neat.
genius.
Bravo 🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶

Anyone notice how the young Crosby looks like the bad guy from "The WARRIORS", Film.??
"So you want to be a Triplet Bill star..."
You mean by 8 miles? Rodger McGuinn in his time was unparelleled in creativity and delivery.
