    Lemon balm is super invasive. Many years ago I planted it in my garden not realizing it. The lemon balm choked out all my other plants. I had to recultivate my whole garden & replant. I actually found it for years later growing in random places. It does flower so maybe seeds were blown into your pot. I felt same way about a dehydrator. I'm telling you I don't think you'll regret buying one. I still hang herbs & flowers because it's pretty. But there's soo many flowers that won't air dry.

      I wish zinnias air dried looking how they look in the garden! They’re my favorite but never look good dried.

      Have you tried drying your zinnias in silica gel?

    I love using my dehydrator to infuse dried herbs into oil. Then use the oil for lotions, soaps or salves. Sooo worth it. Love my x-caliber.

      Tell me more! Do you do the infusion in the dehydrator?

      @4nikkimay That's what I do also. I do prefer air drying but it's definitely a longer process. I do mostly calendula oils , salves & plantain items.

    Hello, don’t you just love July when everything looks lush . I got good info on herb harvesting. I grow several types of basil. Your garden is so pretty.

      July is my favorite! August is when I feel like disease and pests start to take over 😫

    Maybe it's like when a gardener will say about a random plant in the garden. "A bird must've pooped a seed here" 😂

    I liked the way you have taken us through each step of the process. Liked the twine holder as well. QQ, what do you do after washing/rinsing of the herbs ? do you hand dry it using paper towels, before tying it up to avoid any molds? sorry if i missed that part.

    Your herbs look incredibly lush! What size pots are most of them in, and how much water do you give them? I always thought that herbs don't like a lot of water. That is funny about the surprise lemon balm. I had a similar situation where I grew tomatoes from seed, and I realized that one was not like the others. I had no idea what it was, or how it got there, but it turns out that it was a lemon cucumber plant according to Google lens! I never planted cucumber - in fact, I don't even like cucumbers, LOL! 🤣

      Omg that’s so funny about the cucumber 😆 my herbs are in 8” terracotta so they dry out super fast. I water once a day in the heat of summer and sometimes twice if it’s super hot.

    Hi Bethany, I’m a new subscriber to your channel. Love your videos! Where did you get all of your mint varieties? I’m having a hard time finding chocolate, apple etc.

      Mountain valley growers and I ordered online from their website! However the chocolate mint I was able to find at a local garden center.

    I have a dehydrator and it works really well, I think once you get it, you’ll find you use it for lots of other things. I dehydrate my cherry tomatoes and make my own sun-dried tomatoes. I have a question though, I noticed you don’t have saucers under any of your pots. I don’t either, but I’m kind of concerned with the amount of water that is draining through onto my deck. Is that a concern for you? Thank you for your great videos!

    • @ChicagoGardener
      @ChicagoGardener 2 місяці тому

      No, but because of two things: my pots aren’t sitting directly on the deck so I don’t worry about moisture sitting on the wood and also there is a space between the deck and roof that slopes so the water goes out the gutters.

    Question: How much debris accumulates on the floor under your drying rods? I want to try this on a similar wall in my dining room but I worry about the potential mess… 😂

      Other than the gomphrena, it’s not too bad 😆 I do have a small handheld vacuum nearby that I use. It’s much easier for me to pull that out than our actual vacuum so I use it more often!
