For anyone wondering, here's the camera and drone gear I used to shoot the eclipse courses.flyingfilmmakerpro.com/solar-eclipse-camera-gear It was such an amazing experience!

This is just about the best video and photographic views of this eclipse I've come across. Very nicely done! I had saw it as well, and I had similar skies you did. In spite of that, you got some of the best detail shots of the corona I've seen photos of! Its so hard to capture the purely dazzling effect of the diamond ring that one see's in person. You did that well too. You captured the surroundings perfectly as well! Loved your drone footage! VERY WELL DONE!! Thanks for posting this.

Thank you!! I really appreciate that! A lot of really capturing the detail in the corona and the diamond ring comes down to editing to bring out the contrast.

I flew my drone during totality too. I guess the reason why the shadow won't show in the video it's because the shadow is 150 miles wide while the drone only went 400 ft high. So not high enough to actually catch it. Still, you got amazing footage. I'm proud of what I got too, but most importantly, we got to see it in person, and no camera can capture the beauty of totality.

It was an amazing experience for anyone lucky enough to be there in the path of totality! I was lucky enough to only have to drive about three hours… It ended up being five hours with traffic, but luckily we left enough time. The best part was having my four year-old daughter, who has been crazy into space getting heavy into me being an astrophotographer, plus my wife was able to join us as well, and it's an experience we will never forget! We were also able to get a couple "standard" pictures with her canon 5DmkIV/ 70-200mm f2.8l lens @ 200mm. We had about two minutes of totality, and it will probably be the most memorable couple minutes of our lives!

Nice that you were able to get your drone up at least.... We were in Ohio too, but there were small planes flying around, and with the new Remote I.D. requirements, I didn't dare put my Mavic 2 up in the air.... Did get some great photos though, and almost 4 minutes of totality !!! A Great day!

Great video. If you could please load more of the video that runs from 2:47-2:57, it is the closest I have been able to find to what it looked like in person. Stunning capture.

Thank you for sharing. I saw totality from Shelburne, Vermont at a solar eclipse party and had good weather; just high thin clouds that let us have a good view.

4:51 this is the shape of the corona I saw through the hazy high clouds in Napolean OH. Thanks for that! 90 seconds really isn't long enough to fully take it in.
Would there be a higher definition picture of this somewhere that I could download?

If you look at the GOES-16 video of the shadow passing the entire path you will see why the drone couldn't pick it up. It's HUGE and would not be discernible at 400'. Nonetheless, you captured some of the best video and stills that I have seen, including at 2:54 where that prominence at the bottom of the disc is vivid. We could see that clearly from our vantage point in Erie. We lucked out on the clouds...after some frantic last minute driving. Cheers!

Nice attempt. I tried the same thing in 2017 with my Phantom 4, and got nothing I’ve ever wanted to share LOL.

Well done! Excellent footage of the Eclipse. I live in Buffalo NY and totally got screwed by the weather. Totaly Cloud cover. Bought a 95 MM Sun filter
for my Nikon. Used a Tamron 150mm to 600mm and only got a few rather erie photos of the partial eclipse.

Well done! Thanks for making the five hour drive and the 1,000 hours of prep time. I think you did capture the shadow moving through the clouds. Check those angles, I think you will see it. So, are you planning to do this for the one in Australia in 2028 -- I hope so!

I wanted to do this but 1. My solar lens for camera didnt come. 2. My drone cable was missing and couldn't connect to iPhone. 3.couldnt set up phone camera and my friends kepts calling. 4. The location wasnts it. Couldn't find anywhere nice im the small towns and I didn't want to be middle of road and get hit on side of road

I’m interested to know what kind of camera you used and lens. I also shot the eclipse in Kerrville Texas unfortunately we were really socked in with low-level clouds and upper level clouds at about 60,000 feet. I was fortunate enough to shoot next to NASA.

Do you know why the horizon is sunset color during the totality? The sun was above our head at that time. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Many factors must converge at once in order to achieve success photographing or videoing an eclipse: the weather, your location, your equipment, your preparation, your experience, and especially your nerves when under pressure. These all converged for us in 2017, quite unexpectedly and miraculously, really. Seventeen-year-old Richie (at the time) shot this aerial video during totality in 2017 under crystal clear skies at Cascade, Idaho. This video is unedited and in one “take.” As in all eclipses, you have only one change to get it right. This video is best viewed on a big screen in HD 1080p.

In Maine the sun was low enough that you could see the eclipse and the land scape at the same time with a drone. Could not really see a shadow, but you could see one section of the sky getting darker than the other.
