Started playing online yesterday...I feel like I've never even played the game. Even though I started playing when I was like 5 and the game was released :'(
Just curious, did you never play this online? On the AoC Zone or whatever? This guy is good, but he's probably Elo rated 1800 tops, which is Intermediate. In fact, from what I remember, almost all of the best players began their rush in Feudal age. A castle age rush is more effective in multiplayer games because it doesn't sacrifice your economy as drastically.
archer rush strategy looks like a big hit for the knight rush tho.. i mean as long as you are good at this game you will not scared of any cheese stuff
Your start building order and the boar pulling really helped me getting a proper early advantage. I found myself investing too much in eco technologies too early as well. Thanks for the help!
Haha. I know this is an d post, but I totally relate to this. Usually I just love building my economy, gently focusing on upgrades always and everywhere, rarely building defenses. This tactic fails on moderate bot, so I have been looking for something equivalent and suitable. It does not help I have not yet learned the hot key for the town center ....
I've been playing AoE for years, since I was a kid, but never bothered to learn a build order! This was incredibly helpful, and really showed me where I've been going wrong in multiplayer games. Thanks again, will need to practice this a lot to really get it down haha
Holy shit this tutorial makes me feel like such a noob. I'll have to try this strat with Huns first, just to make it slightly simpler for my feeble mind.
I simply build 3 layers of walls and 2 layers of towers in narrow spaces on black forest with britons and just watch how ai fails miserably trying to invade me
Just found your channel last night and have been watching for hours. I used to play a lot of AoE back in the Internet Cafe day but mostly just endless games with my buddies.Just now am I picking up on all these strategies and details since I started playing again a month ago and have since played CK and EU. Thanks for all the awesome videos and continue the good work!
My previous game lasted more than 5 hours. 😆 I still haven't finished it. It got too late, so I saved the game and went to bed. I might have to continue at a later date.
Holy crap, I just realized the key to acting faster is using Hotkeys... I just played an online match a few minutes ago and got Knight Rushed pretty badly. LOL This helped plenty.
I took your advice and i've improved tons! :) Just still having trouble building a huge army! I think i need to put more villagers on gold in the beginning! I went to the Feudal and Castle Age really fast!
I played AOE 2 and Rise of Nations religiously when i was a kid! Was fun watching and learning about the game again. Thinking about buying it for myself as a birthday gift! Good video, liked how you explained what you are doing as you are doing it! leaving a thumbs up!
learned a lot watching this video. prioritise your defensive research over offensive in order to boost offence. set gather points for your stables at the opponents' lumber camps.
I had never won unless I played a water map (built a bunch of galleons and killed the enemy) OR played the Black Forest (numerous trees for protection) but on my first try of using this strategy, I WON! Thank you! Some stats: I used the Teutons, highland map, hard difficulty, and the enemy was the Japanese. The game lasted 37 minutes and 15 seconds.
OMG. I'm the exact opposite. 😅 I HATE water maps because I don't like to build up a navy. I always try to play on land maps and get into frequent little skirmishes with the enemy AI.

+Edvared This is basically the video written out, do notice that some of these things happen at the same time and some after eachother. (really useful to have on the side if you have dual screens.) I hope this helps you out :3
+Edvared Hey just wondering, shouldn't getting the mill upgrades important too? I get the fast castle and stuff but when you have 8- 10 farms it turns out to be a big difference.

Thank you so much for this! Today I played against my brother and won for the first time by a different way without building a wonder lmao. I went for the lumber camp like you did, then built a forward siege workshop and proceeded to wreak havoc. My brother was so angry that he didn't quit until I found all of his villagers haha. Cheers mate!
This is great! I've been playing for 6 years but I've been just playing, never playing online. Now I'm going to start learning how to actually play the game like a pro and this is a great guide. Thanks Resonance!
thanks a lot for this video!! I'm a super noob XD (elo is 1450s haha). I actually advanced to feudal as fast as possible then spent ages in feudal age and often got knight rushed or sniped by loads of archers/crossbowmen haha. this has helped me out loads and I'm already getting to castle age in 18 minutes. practising all the hot keys to make my time even quicker. but yeah super helpful video liked and subscribed man thanks a bunch!
As a child, my oldest brother showed me the cheatcodes way so every time I used to play this game would be using cheatcodes, now of course, I thought I was the best player ever or at least "good". Fast-forward to lockdown 2020, here is me trying to play this game without any cheatcodes and finding out I'm ABSOLUTELY SHIT AT IT!!! they be at the imperial age with an army of 500+ while I'm still trying to get enough villagers to farm and get me enough food to go onto castle age lmfao this is why I'm here, so thank you xDDDD
Hey that's a nice video. Was very useful as for me. Well I saw some moments I do myself like renovating lumber camps so they walk less or luring boars or stuff but yeah, I saw some new moments. Thanks.
A good dark age boom is a boom without a second of idle tc / vils. Some remarks: - only have two/three vils on the first house - immediately move one sheep and one vil to under the tc - when luring boar / herding sheep, move them under your tc - the one vil that finished the houses can go for the close trees while you get up to 6 on sheep, move her to build the lumber camp as soon as you hit 6 vils on sheep. - the next two houses should be built by only one vil, move the others to the sheep - start the barracks at 55-60% feudal age researched
i forgot to say that i love all your videos, and im always watching. and thanks for your videos im getting a little better (theres yet a lot to improve though)

Wooow... so fast! I need to practice a LOT! Thanks for the tutorial!
Don't worry dude, he is also not good. Normally a regular Castle Age is at 16 minutes. Anyway, this strategy doesn't work anymore against the new AI. He will attack you before 14 minutes.
Very true! Every time I finally remember to get my Mining Camp upgrades at a reasonable time I tend to forget something else. It's something that I am working on. :)
Rick Biessman I think he could be german. It's very hard to tell, but every once in a while it sounds slightly like a german accent. But it's almost unnnoticable... at least to a german :D Edit: He could also be french, if you listen to how he pronounces the "th"^^
I used to play the Aztecs and Britons in conquerors I became very efficient at countering the Hun cavalry rush. The way to counter is exactly what he did but focus on pikemen and their upgrades by feudal age jumping to castle is 1st priority the once you counter the rush hit his gold mines and he will struggle in rebuilding his knight rush, you can basically cripple them that way.
(travisslipf18) really enjoy your videos this one i came back to to improve my knight rush and I came across your scout technique which I have long admired.I was using way points either in patrol or otherwise (which i believe leads to a bad habit of neglecting the scout) and noticed that you did not bother with that. In this video you pointed out that you use the mini map to keep your scout moving once he is beyond your local town center area. This was a great revelation now I play games just to practice this and I have been able to find the enemy camp easier.
I used to play this game when I was like 9. I had a lot of fun just spawning the machine gun shelbys lmao. I’m 21 now and just got this game again, and I can’t figure it out. I don’t even know how 9 year old me played this.
this is a great tutorial for the n00bs but for the pros, if u go fast castle and not wall up, you risk a counter fuedal rush before you even reach the castle age.
Yeah I realize that it would be a better tutorial if it featured real players. I only used a computer opponent so that I could play without any lag to have better play on my end. However, I do agree with you and in the future if I have any recorded games that feature real players executing a strategy well, I will use those instead. Thanks for the feedback and kind words! :) I very much appreciate it.
some 15 years back i used to do something similar, I used to rush to castle age and take down their town center with knights. Then i also used to build lots of pikeman to defend against knights. Back then I used to play on MSN.
i usually create villagers to keep food at 100,idk why , and i put lots of vills at wood so i can build stuff , and if i have water on the map i use mainly fishing ships instead of farms ,this video hopefully will help me stop being a noob against rookie level AI, thanks
Wow you're really good. I need help so bad with this game. XD I've been trying to learn techniques to move on to the next age quickly and gather resources faster. I always seem to be really behind (When playing multiplayer) and they end up having a stampede of an army while i barely can afford to make more armies.
That is understandable. The Aztec villagers hold more resources before dropping them off, so you will likely have to "force drop-off" your shepherds' food when playing the Aztecs. :) And of course they lack Cavalry units so you'd have to use Eagle Warriors. At some point I plan to make a separate video for the Mayans and Aztecs. Their strategy is known as a "klew" or Eagle Warrior Rush.
it all depends on strategy. watch the replay, try something different. hotkeys are important... have a certain goal: castles, trees, onagers, pikes, cavalry, etc.
Me too, but because I spend my time on unimportant things. I like to surround my base with walls and towers, which is fun, but seems to be a complete waste of time and resources. I also normally don't hunt deers or boars, seems it's important to do it...
@@natanfk2 boars are definitly important, its 300 food which is harvested at the best speed, especially if you have the boar under your tc. Deer can help if you can mikro the 4 hunters good. But there are more like having free farms.
Holy crap I realized I am crap at this game

yes, his accent is American. I was referencing the voice he puts on at 2:44 "A list of all ze graphics mods that I have"

So how do you beat the new AI?
Walling up and abuse it's bad tracking?
I know i'm a bit late here, but whatever. Yes. That is exactly how you win over the new AI. Play defensive and abuse the bad tracking.
I forgot how great this game was. Childhood, right here.

Me too, but because I spend my time on unimportant things. I like to surround my base with walls and towers, which is fun, but seems to be a complete waste of time and resources. I also normally don't hunt deers or boars, seems it's important to do it...
Michele Ubalducci disrupt their supply lines with early archers
@@natanfk2 boars are definitly important, its 300 food which is harvested at the best speed, especially if you have the boar under your tc. Deer can help if you can mikro the 4 hunters good. But there are more like having free farms.
i m not a native speaker. what does he say at 5:20 after the "suicidal tendecies" joke? "you can tell him to XXXXX inside the town center"
Very helpful for helping me to crush my followers!
but in my AOE 2,the enemy so fast than you so what do you think to be more faster than enemy?
I don't get it, im doing it right but before i reach castle age the enemy sends upgraded infantry to me and when i got to his base its full of archers
Screwiish Do it quicker then.
Good to know I'm not the only person who slips uncontrollably into an accent of random origin. Seriously I was getting worried about that.
Excellent guide :D
