I called the shadow overs innsmouth the insmouth horror and i put that down 100% to playing WAY too much Arkham Horror 2nd edition. Anyways, we are currently midway through The feast of hemlock vale , so will be covering that in a few months. Innsmouth was a really good campaign, but yeah, just fell short in the end of being amazing.
‘They’ say carcossa is currently the best in the series thus far. Hemlock Vale reminds me of this horror movie set in a sect in some location in Northern Europe.
I think the movie is Mid Sommer though I've not seen it. I don't know much about Hemlock Vale as I'm very new to the game but I'm interested. I hope it's kind of like The Wickerman with Annihilation vibes.
Tempting! Carcosa the favourite so far then? And if so, do you think that's because of where it sits in the series? Up these ways it's easily tops (we haven't played the newer campaigns) but I always wonder if it has anything to do with it being the first one that really takes the reigns and messes with expectations/rules to blend that narrative aspect even further into the experience.
I think its a combination of them learning a lot from Dunwich and still being super fresh and full of ideas. In order to innovate now, they have to do so much more work.
Cool review. I used to dislike this campaign because how tense it is but now I want more of it, haha. Screw these tunnels though. Not related but which expansion boards did you usually play with on 2nd edition now that we mention Innsmouth? Looking forward to hearing about Hemlock Vale too.
I would play Arkham 2nd ed with the innsmouth board about 1 in 8 times. Because we always played core game + one story expansion. So never played with multiple boards etc
The plan has always been 1 3 minute video a week, and then extra content around that. Rejoin us in a few days for Nucleum in about 3 minutes. I also need to do other formats just to express myself ;)
in to deep + Light in the fog agreed are absolute top tier and absolutely agree with the Asylum comparison. And I agree that the second half is really meh. Also about caverns, generally everything you say I agree with and were my exact thoughts when playing it myself :)
I agree with a lot of your assessment of the scenarios. Your 3 highly rated scenarios I completely agree with. Top scenarios. I find devil's reef a little less good than you rated it as the RNG is super swingy. Sometimes you have to retrace your steps a lot which isn't too fun. Look forward to the next review
I've done devils reef at 2 players a couple of times now, and damn, if there is a scenario where player count makes a huge difference its this one. At 3, we had time, at 2, nope.
I will never forget doing Lair of Dagon on my blind run, turning to my friends, and going "No tunnels this time!". Then my friend who sets up the scenario just sets the tunnels aside and all of the excitement I had previously just left my body.
I've had a quick look at Earthbourne rangers and it just doesn't feel like my sort of game at all. Like Arkham, but with no real tension. (And tension is why i play arkham). Still, will try to give it a go in the near future as Jared, who is one of my arkham crew, backed the original KS campaign.
@@3MBG That aligns with my impression as well. It just keeps coming up so favorably in reviews, to the point that I’m questioning my judgment. I simply can’t find anyone to play it with to get direct experience. I have Galzyr in my collection for when I want a low tension sandbox, and my kids can’t handle the complexity of a full-on LCG card game(, yet anyway.) Count yourself lucky, I guess, that you even know a person with a copy. Chuckle. Thank you! :)
I love Arkham but haven't had much of a crew to play with. However, my kids wouldn't like the scary feel whereas Eartborne looks like something they would cope with much better. That said, I was just a little too broke to buy during the latest gamefound.
Well now I'm trained to stay to the last moment of every video. 😆
Lol

The Return to innsmouth is here. derbk.com/ancientevils/the-unofficial-return-to-the-innsmouth-conspiracy/
Dagon is a criminally underrated movie adaptation. After staring at the screen too much I have the Innismouth look.

By the way a new 2nd edition fan variant has recently been completed and it is good, really really good! It’s on BGG.
For Arkham horror the original?
@@3MBG Let me find the link for you.

@@3MBG1 board sounds like the best idea, yeah. Though I tend to go for Kingsport the most since it encourages to do encounters there.
I just had it on rotation, so would play them in sequence
This isn’t 3 minutes!😯
Nope.

Love these videos. Innsmouth is my favorite, but I know it is flawed. Carcosa is better mechanically, but Carcosa’s theme falls flat for me.

Hahahaha, omg, that exact feeling. Oh neat, temple of dagon, neato.... nope TUNNELS!
Awesome review. I’d kill to hear your comparison between Arkham and Earthborne Rangers… A robust play this, not that/who is it for…

I did not expect the ending
lol, i tried recording more of that but just kept cracking up
Agreed: I think this thing starts out a lot stronger than it ends.
Innsmouth starts off on such a high and then just keeps going down. The last two scenarios may be the weakest finales in all of AHLCG.
Them tidal tunnels needed to go away after mission 6.
🤣 your parodying is hilarious
