- We drive about 15 miles from home to Orford in Suffolk and park in the Orford Quay Car Park. The day consists of gentle walks along the river and through the town visiting the church and Orford Castle.

We went to Orford many times, one of the things we really, really missed because of lockdown was our trip to East Anglia, probably more than the Hebrides, truth be told. Want to get back there. Thanks for bringing us that, as always, a lovely video.

Liking the new camera angle at the start, you two are great together on camera. Another great bit of coastline you have down in that neck of the woods, good to see Sheila & Joe out with you. Hopefully not long now until you can travel further and stay somewhere.

Just lovely. Here comes another story. I am sure it was Orfordness I went with a couple of friends in the very early 90's. For the life of me I don't remember how we got there...maybe hired a boat for the day?? but anyway we took a portable BBQ and set it up on the beach. I guess we didn't realise in those days just how fragile the environment was . We sat there cooking away while watching a guy waterskiing. We were the only ones around and I guess with an audience he decided to do a bit of showing off with his moves.....but I'm afraid it rather backfired. The boat turned a bit too sharply and made him let go of the rope. He came haring towards us and skied right through our BBQ!! He parted the three of us and the dogs like the Red Sea with him skiing through the middle.... It's the funniest thing I have ever seen!! He ran back in the water as fast as he could with us shouting "Are you all right" and with a quick turn of his head he said "Yes" as he swam back to the boat as fast as he could. I can't look at a portable BBQ without laughing remembering this.

Hello Trev and Sue, its a great place and was at Pinneys of Orford to get a sea food supper just the other week ( the quaint little shop 4:35 ). Many a day spent here wandering, defiantly well worth a visit. Sadly the sea is beginning to take Orford ness light house, they say it may be dismantled in the future. Also this little town was once voted the most desirable place to live. The castle is great to visit. Also pump street bakers does some lovely bread . Ark at me ! i sound like tourist imformation !!!! Ha ha ha I do that to Fabian all the time with the recordings. Honestly, still impressed with how you drive thru those small streets with your rig. Beautiful scenery and hope your lock down starts phasing out soon so you can explore more and see inside the castle one day!

Avoid the "jolly Sailor"in Orford. Grim. Really rude staff. Crappie food
Such a shame. I can remember a friend lived there years ago and it was a very different village. Ruined by 2nd homes and stuffy Londoners. No offence meant but the authenticity of the village has gone 😞 Trev
We went to Orford back in 1992 when we lived down in Essex and went out for a long drive. It doesn't seem to have changed much, still looks as lovely.
It really is John, very quaint and a little posh in places but so so pretty. We always relax on a walk at Orford. 🙂 thanks for watching 🚐👍🏻 Trev
That was a fun day trip...I loved seeing the shoreline and all the boats, old and new. But my favorite is the Orford Castle. Wow, it is pretty well preserved, and the architecture is amazing. Okay, when you're done with this video, meet us at the Jolly Sailor's Pub, lol. Debbie - BluWave Odyssey

Tucked away a little but quite a nice little place with coffee shops, pubs, craft centre and more. We like to go weekdays when there are fewer visitors 🙂 thanks for watching 🚐👍🏻 Trev
Whoa! Rent by the hour? Are all your campgrounds like that? Or is it because this is more like a store parking lot? When you're walking along talking about the military island, there's some odd shaped dark objects sticking up out of the water in a row. What are they? I just could not make it out.
This was a car park Felicity, so no overnight camping allowed. But perfect for a day out. The rows of sticks poking out of the mud were originally there to prevent the river tides silting up the river keeping it navigable for larger boats. Over the years they have eroded away to leave wooden skeletons along the river next to sunken abandoned boats. It sounds horrible but when you look from the riverbanks it’s really quite artistic 😊 Thank you for asking 🚐 Trev

Trev is there a campsite at orford or one nearby to walk to the beach?
Orford is near the river and although it appears to be coastal it is surrounded in marshland and is quite rural. If you are looking for a beach then the one closest to the beach in the area is in Aldeburgh just up the coast. Here is a link churchfarmparkaldeburgh.co.uk/touring-pitches 😃 Trev

Thanks for taking us along with you on your walk. Orford looks like such a charming town! Natasha particularly loved the cottages with their bushes & greenery. The castle is definitely the gem of the town. I bet it’s pretty neat inside, too.

My parents and I had been to Windsor Castle once before for one of my birthday trips.
I have been to Colchester Castle before, on school trips.
£4 for 8hrs.... wonder if that's why its empty...
Mark that’s about the going rate in the area. It’s a very rural spot so you wouldn’t expect more than a dozen cars there during lockdown with everything closed. That said, we were at Dovercourt last week on a free car park with similar numbers. I am certain this car park will be full on a normal summer weekend. In Southwold the cost is £7.50 for more than 3 hours. Sign of the times? 🚐 Trev
