You know what's neat? Me and my brother discovered that level 1 warp that sends you to Orangutan Gang when we were kids, and we had no clue it was a glitch. We honestly thought it was like a warp zone in Mario Bros lmfao
need to mention: DKC has 3 US versions, 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2, i think the warp glitches were fixed since 1.1, at least the one to go inmediately from Ropey Rampage to Orang-Utan Gang, this woll not work on Virtual Console and the Nintendo Switch Online app since they used the 1.2 ROM for those releases.
They get into the programming of the game. ie, if player does this, how is the RAM affected, etc. It's kind of not fair for regular players but only initially. It's OK because once they figure out the code exploits, it gets out there for everyone to use.

I'm so stupid... I watch a lot of Skootie playing super auto pets. I also watch a bunch of gaming speed run content from various creators. I totally forgot skootie made other content. This popped into my recommendations and I played it without looking too closely. From the point the video started I spent an embarrassing amount of time getting more and more amazed at how similar this random speed run youtuber sounded like Skootie. It actually got so impressively similar that I had to pause the video to check the creator to see who it was that matched skooties voice and speach mannerisms so closely.
I watched. Listened carefully. And I have no clue what really happened other than hidden barrels, weird warps, and randomly dying while exiting the top... All I can do is shake my head.
Okay. Now I can say it's not about how you enter the bonus level but how you quit. I save states and, in the same slot, I sometimes warp to World 1 and sometimes to World 6... I jsut need to figure out what I'm doing each time
I remember the split up glitch. I thought it was such a silly quirk of the game. Don't you have to get hit while above a pit and fall into the pit for the trick to work correctly? I can't remember if falling into a pit without getting hit just reverts the effect. I could be miss remembering it though as it's been years since I last played.
I forgot about the warp glitch in the first world! I accidentally discovered it as a kid and figured out how to do it on command... ...damn being an adult is depressing.
About fifteen minutes into the video, I had a thought. I was just thinking about Super Mario 64 (released 2 years after DKC?) and after that came out, you'd hear the occasional gossip (this was before everyone had household internet access and you learned gaming tips and tricks from magazines!) about - oh, if you do this, this, and that, Luigi is a playable character. But it was always stuff that was so farfetched, nobody ever really tried. Point is, I have trouble picturing somebody going through a fraction of the steps in this video back in the day, and then having anybody believe any of this is real and then repeating it. It's just wild to me how many people (hundreds or thousands) speedrun any given game. (I'm not here to say "Hey, you're having fun wrong". I'm just saying this is uncanny to me.)
I misremembered the glitch in question, anyone know which glitch sends you to the start of the ice map? It's bugging me since i don't remember how i ended up there in the first place.
That should not be possible. Would like to see a video of it. EDIT: Ah, your comment was edited, than it makes more sense. While there is no warp that takes you to the map screen itself. When you use the map warp to Orang-utan Gang and beat the world, you'll then unlock the Ice World, which will look weird on the map screen as there is no road leading from World 1 up to World 3. If it maybe was something like that?
Stale Reference Manipulation in OOT is actually the same type of exploit as DKC's "Invisible Barrel glitch" - you get the game to despawn the entity you're still carrying, so the game makes the player hold a vacant slot for another entity to potentially spawn in. "Cloning" in SM64, Null Sprite in Yoshi's mouth in SMW are also the same underlying mechanism. In programming terms it can be labeled as "dangling reference"/"use after free" and it is a bug that (like other memory safety violations) has a potential to be exploited to do Arbitrary Code Execution, just like in all of the aforementioned games (except SM64).
@@skeleton_craftGaming I know it's pedantic, but I haven't actually seen it being called a "stale reference" outside of OOT speedrunning community, only a "dangling reference (or pointer)"
I’ve been watching a lot of your speed run videos and I’m really curious How exactly do speedrunners know to do this? Like who was the first speed runner to discover these weird glitches? Do they go looking for them or do they just discover them accidentally?
Depends on the glitch. Sometimes a glitch is found by accident in casual play; speed runners might then look into how it can be applied practically into a run in order to reduce game time. Other times, some games might have glitch hunters who work like testers, they'll try to stress or break the game in order to achieve an unusual result.
Generally there are entire communities of people finding new strats over time. Many strategies are found intentionally by experienced glitch hunters. But there are also many strategies which happened by complete accident which the community then figure out how to replicate.

I dont understand this run. If youve skipped to the end, and beat the last boss before the game boss, why do you have to go back and beat all the bosses? And if you jave to go back anyways,... Why do it in this order anyways?
