- In his latest presentation for The Old Low Light Heritage Centre our walks-and-talks volunteer and retired Master Mariner, Martin Kenny, tells us about the life and times of Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, 1st Baron Collingwood (1748-1810).
Collingwood was an admiral of the Royal Navy, notable as a friend and colleague of Lord Nelson who fought alongside Nelson and took command of the British Fleet after Nelson's death at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Collingwood, who has been described as "Nelson's own hero", was born and schooled in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and his family home was in Morpeth. The statue of Collingwood is a well-known and much-loved landmark overlooking the Tyne and visible from the Old Low Light Heritage Centre in North Shields.

It's shocking that there isn't even a documentary never mind a film about this legend
Very good account
Great account of his life as there's very little on here about this great man
Excellent
Excellent book by Max Adam’s - Admiral Collingwood -Nelson’s own Hero.
beautiful account, very easy on the ear, no annoying background music! and a very nice touch with the sound of the sea at the end. You nailed it Martin and should do more documentaries, in my opinion.
Was nit there an unsuccessful atempt to bomvard Istanbul?
Thank you for telling us about this great man
A genuine national hero.
