Cast Iron Cauldron Cooking ~ Beef Stew from Our Garden

  • The Bonfire was a huge success! The Tripod/Fire Iron Set worked perfectly! The Stew was GREAT! The vegetables came from our garden, and the beef was from a cow we raised, all cooked over an open fire in a cast iron cauldron! What could be better?
    For many years, Cindy has enjoyed Dutch Oven Cooking. This Year for Christmas, she said she would like to try Cauldron Cooking.......these pots ain't cheap! I shopped around, and found this one for about $100. Most were about twice that price.... It's a 10 Quart, but I don't see a brand name....
    Anyway, enjoy!

      It was great! We like the old ways and try to live that way as much as possible. Now days, it's a lot harder to do, but it can be done. I have Mexican friend that cooks 100% over an open fire.

    Wow! I have no doubt in my mind that Cindy's stew is simply delicious. And how much more wholesome can ya get than cooking vegetables from the garden and beef you guys raised yourself, on an open fire outdoors. Good God, you just created a hunger crisis for 172 people (at least that's the view count as I write this); I just went to the freezer and took out a chunk o' moose to thaw. Will be making stew, lol.
    That is one ideal cookin' system, the cauldron and the tripod. Genius job on the tripod and hooks and chain. Btw, what kinda fire pit is that? Really practical, handles and all. You were thinking the willow might not be dry enough to burn yet but it looks like it went pretty well.
    A great visit guys, so grateful for the time you put into bringing us along. Still baffles me how much you guys fit into a day. Thanks and be blessed till next time.

      Thank you very much! It was great! For a LOT of years, she had cooked in Dutch Ovens, and this is similar, just a different shape. Moose Stew sounds great!! That green willow ended up just fine. I was really worried it wouldn't burn, but it did just right.

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  8 місяців тому

      Oh, and the firepit....it was made by a friend and given to us. It's really nice, but it's a little too tall. I should dig out a hole and set it a little lower in the ground. I'll probably do that this Summer.

      I like bear stew! That's my favorite way to cook bear meat. Maybe a little, but I didn't notice much of a smoke taste? With the lid off, some wood ash got into it. That probably added some flavor?

      Polar bear? Wow! We have eaten a lot of black bears, and my Uncle had an Alaskan Brown bear he made into jerky. It was good. Morels are good! A little smoky tasting, and "meaty" tasting.
