Surprised you didn't mention how this movie was made as a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Every dollar made from the VHS sales of this movie was donated to that foundation. And that ending gets me every time.
I cried watching this at my second grade Christmas party and I cried watching your review. This was such a wholesome movie and the lesson of unconditional love and selflessness is one that always touches me. So glad everyone in it got a happy ending. Cynicism is overrated, let's have more joyful (if bittersweet) movies like this.
As cynical as I've become over the years this movie still hits me in the feels. Yeah I always get choked up at the end...not afraid to admit it. This movie is so damn wholesome and sincere even if it has kids movie cliques.
Annabelle's Wish is one of Kath Soucie's best vocal performances. She does a perfect job being sweet and touching at the same time. The second would have to be a tie between her voice role as the female Lamb in "Simon The Lamb" by Precious Moments and Kanga from Winnie The Pooh for a period in the early 2000s. It makes me wish Kath Soucie got more voice roles as a main character besides being part of a supporting cast or a secondary main character this charming. The other notable voice role where she was the main protagonist was the 1991 animated film "The Little Engine That Could".
Did she also voice Adult Reindeer!Annabelle as well? Because her voice there was similar to Sally Acorn from Sonic, while her voice as a calf was similar to Lil from Rugrats.
Two parts really moved me. The first was the titular wish - giving up one's own voice so that someone else could speak for the first time. But the second part was not the final wish per se - the one that turned Annabelle into a reindeer - but the buildup to that final scene. The time skip really threw me for a loop; I did not expect the movie to show an Annabelle on death's door, so old and withered. Maybe the movie did not outright say this, but it sure implies that Annabelle, Billy and Emily have seen the other animal friends - including Annabelle's mother, and Billy's grandfather (who doubled as a father figure) - pass on due to old age. From Annabelle's perspective, to see loved ones die and be close to death herself until the Santa ex Machina.... it made me feel for her. But in any case, it's a heck of a movie to review to finish off 2018. It had a lotta heart and compassion. Kudos to the movie and this review. I can't wait to see what this channel has in store for 2019.

When I first saw this movie, I thought Agnus was the one who set the fire because her deceased brother had a lot of money and she hoped to get the money but found out he left it all to Billy once he came of age and that's why she wanted him but they didn't go there.
Merry Christmas Issac. Boy was this a very sweet and charming movie... I need to see this for myself now... Also... for next Christmas, might I recommend The First Snow of Winter and Nick and Noel for potential future Christmas reviews?
I think Agnes being desperate for Billy is maybe either as a status symbol or because she is an older unwed woman which might get her looked down upon in her social circles. It's not that she wants a child it's that she wants some of the perks and praise that comes with being a parent without having to put in the energy to birth and raise a child. Much like people that buy pets they have no intentions of keeping for longer than the novelty.

I never considered Billy’s parents died in the same barn fire. I always assumed they died in another accident and by the time the barn fire started he was already adopted by his grandfather.
This movie reminds me a lot of this other DTV film called 'Buster and Chauncey's Silent Night'. It would be cool if you covered that next season. It is a musical film with talking animals, which seems up your alley :)
This movie is simple and adorable... despite the evil aunt who is a lame villain; she did nothing very intimidating like burning the barn or kidnapping Anabelle and her mother then try to sell them. She is not very developped or interresting :S She is like Aunt Fig in the Tom and Jerry movie, completely useless. Billy, his friend and the animals are cute and likable; i like them :D My favorites are Star, the Horse and the Dog. It's one of the best Christmas movie ever with Charlie brown's christmas and Mickey version of Christams Carol. Love them!

For a TV movie this is really good. I watched this with my best friend growing up. Compared to Grandma got ran over by a Reindeer this is wayyy better

While every household religiously watches “a Christmas story” every holiday season, MY family watches this underrated gem every holiday season!
I watched this for the first time since I was 7. I cried about three times. You don't realize the heaviness of some things until you are an adult.
