Six folk songs (two instrumental, four vocal) from Bangladesh. Five of the recordings were made in August 1971 and one song (from "Folk Music of Pakistan" LP) was recorded in 1951, 20 years before Bangladesh gained its independence. - - 01. Chatka (traditional folk melody, played on the Dotara lute. Performed by Abinash Chandra Sheel. Recorded in 1971) (00:00), 02. Folksong from Noakhali (song about the shortage of food. Sung by Chittaranjan Bhowmik. Recorded in 1971) (02:44), 03. Song from Chittagong (sung by Malay Ghose Dastidar. Recorded in 1971) (06:27), 04. Baul Song (traditional song by an 18th century Baul [Bard] named Lalan. Sung by Torap Ali Shah. Recorded in 1971) (11:32), 05. Bhatiali (river boatmen song, performed by Abdul Halim Chowdhry. Recorded in 1951) (15:37), 06. Bamboo Flute (Transverse bamboo flute with six finger-holes, played by Kalachand Ghose. Accompanied by Table (drum) and a cluster of small bells called Ghunghur.
