Word of advice, try not to have both feet on the ground when trying to get traction. One foot on the peg as often as possible! Keep your suspension weighted and you'll get lots of traction.
This was my first ever ride in the Gnar! I'm from Michigan the land of Deep Sand and Miles of Whoops, to say I struggled would be an understatement! I definitely learned a lot riding here and can’t wait to get back! Feel free to leave me tips/suggestions or even bash me for the way I rode this trail. Watch till the end because when I’m done struggling the rest of the trail is pretty sweet, hope you enjoy! Disclaimer: this video doesn’t do this trail any Justice, it was way harder than it looks!
You are so right about the GoPro flattening out the view. Good vid! Yep, Highland Park is an excellent introduction to tire width bench cut trails on steep hills. Excellent training for Colorado and Idaho mountain trails. Especially since if you go off trail in most places a tree will catch your bike before hitting the creek at the bottom.
I wear safety glasses in technical riding. Much less fog, better airflow, less heat and I'm usually not worried about roost or sticks much because of the low speeds. I just keep a set of them in my hydration pack now.
Absolutely! I told my buddy Brian when we do stuff like that I’ll also have a pair of safety glasses from now on! I actually lost my goggles the next day in Alabama? 😥
When you got to the hill, instead of taking the rock garden, you crossed over to the left, and went up on trail 37 (as @endurowarrior said) Trail 37 runs parallel to 36, but in the opposite direction. You picked the easier line that way, but I don’t blame you. Navigating the rock garden on 36 is probably the toughest obstacle at HP, except for maybe the steep hill on 14 (a 6 diamond). Nice job. And you're right, GoPros don't do the terrain justice.
Thanks for the info. We are from Michigan and didn’t really know that we missed the trail until a few of you on here told us. We are actually going back this January so hoping to ride it again and do better this time, thanks for watching!
Video looks great! Interesting your trail rating system is different than ours. Black diamond is our hardest but they very dramatically I've also seen red diamond which is suppose to be extremely difficult. Your system seems to make more sense than ours.
These trails are actually in Georgia and I’m from Michigan. We just went down to get out of the snow. Kind of why I was falling all the time, just completely different than what I’m used to riding.
Sitting here drinking my morning coffee tensing up making faces at the monitor letting out gutteral sounds. Man I feel ya. Florida here so flat and sandy is what I'm used to. Joined a group based outta Knoxville area (Dixieland Dual Sport) and the first ride I did with these guys nearly killed me! Was very much like this but up in the Cherokee NF below the Cherohala Skyway area. I had a wr250r at the time and was prone to stalling as well cuz Florida is flat and this ain't that!
You guys should force yourself to only kick start. I guarantee you will find that your clutch control will improve dramatically. I know you struggled but you looked good doing it and learned from it. Hey, at least it wasn't raining on all those roots. Great video!
Thanks for the encouragement! Definitely learned a lot and I’m looking forward to redeeming myself this winter! Worlds apart from the terrain I typically ride.
Was there yesterday........its definitely tough on the 5 diamond trails......the outer Loop is where its at!!!!!!!.....YOU CAN GO FAST......!!!!!!!!!!!.....
@@Captain250FX and you are definitely right..the camera doesn't do that hill any justice..those a re steep rocky and rooted 45 degree angles...some spots are just wide enough for your tires....I'm from Alabama..about an hour from highland park...we have some local trails on cheaha mtn..23 miles ..its called KENTUCK ohv trails in Talladega county Alabama 👍👍👍
I know I was told that by somebody else also. We are going back this year so we will do it right! It was our first time there and somehow went the wrong way? 🤷🏼♂️

I didn't realize you guys did Highland park also, trails 36 is serious riding! Nicely done :)
Thanks it was totally new to me, I’m used to sand and whoops but it was a great time!
I do really like this tipe of terrains i have a 300 2t and this machines loves stuff like this
When I was suffering I was actually thinking ok this is why everybody rides a 300 2t !!! ✌🏽

Very Nice! I knew you could do it. If you stay lower on that trail where the rocks are nasty you get a whole different route and end of the trail
Yeah, nice, LOL but he did 37 wrong way, 36 was right at the bottom

So true! Cherohala is a beautiful area! Been through there many times on my road bike but never ridden off road in that area.

I’ll get the chance to ride that stuff again at the end of January! Coming down from Michigan, can’t wait!

I just put a rekluse Radius X in my 250 fx after avoiding it for months and I'm liking it a lot.
Keep me posted!
That trail is very difficult. The only person I've seen ride that trail like a champ is the one and only Papi!
I agree the cameras are don't give any Depth perception at all.
Very true and frustrating sometimes! 😬
You are going wrong way, you did trail 37 damn it
I know I was told that by somebody else also. We are going back this year so we will do it right! It was our first time there and somehow went the wrong way? 🤷🏼♂️
@@Captain250FX ua-cam.com/video/b4shYrBaQhQ/v-deo.html this is 36 at 5:55, I rode it few days ago
Yes, where you went straight up the hill, it actually goes right up the rocky section. You hopped on 37 at the top and did it backwards.
Hahaha yeeeees!!!
36 is almost impassible now. I went recently and they had reversed it, so you can't start from the bottom like yall did.
Good to know, we are going back in a few weeks. This video was from a few years ago. We are from Michigan, thanks.
I would be so fucked
It was way worse than it looks lol! Guess what??? We’re going again AND YOUR COMING WITH!
🇺🇸?
Yes
Ffs dirtbike channel here, we say the same thing about the footage! It steals from the angles and sread on camera
Angles and speed. We were at highland parkin May of 23
Agreed!
Dude...this was pathetic to watch. Maybe next time upload a video of you playing with your kitten....
lol, calm down dude! Don’t be so emotional…….😂 Sounds like you have the kitten and it’s 🩸🩸🩸ing.
