Thanks Don! I have 2 Homelite saws that I've had for nearly 30 years. They run really well, though can be a bit tricky to start at times. Now that I see how to do the carb kit job, I may give it a try. I've learned a lot from your videos. Many thanks for your work.
Great video! The Super 2 is one of the best all time saws. 43 years old & still runs like a champ. Still my go-to saw for pruning & general light clearing. Zero arm fatigue.
I have an old super 2- 1980 s. Your videos have guided me on maintenance and things will be done differently now. I have a Tolliston carb and of course I ordered the Warbo parts.
Thank God my primary chainsaw is a Homelite Super XL automatic from 1979, the carb is right over head under the air filter, no fooling around. Very easy to work on and it cuts fantastic.
I like the way you showed us how to take the saw apart, and re-assemble it. I don't have a Homelite saw, but the same procedure probably works on the Poulan, and Stihl saws also.
Hey Dony, the hose going from the carb to the oil tank is a pressure line. These models did not have an oil pump. Uses pressure from carb to pump oil on the bar.
Thank you Donnie, I have a little Homelite XL, Unfortunate for me I loaned it out,,, they couldn't get it running,, turns out they put the oil where the gas goes The gas where the oil goes, What's that old saying never let a good deed go unpunished. well I guess it's time to rebuilt the carburetor.
awesome job there Donny mate those are cut little Chainsaws by Homelite and those were the good old days when Homelites were not Chinese made and were made by their company too
Very easy to understand instructions I just picked up one of these From garbage tip It has compression and good spark i will try to find a carby kit for it
Good to see you are doing a great job . I hope you wifi is doing a whole lot better and hope they have better meds for her. Me I am not to good been in the vet hospital for 6 months and of course no wifi on my side of the ward . My fusion in my back got a bad septic infection and it ended up being antibiotic residences. But now home and still bed bound but I have a gadget that lets me use my laptop while laying flat.
Perfect timing again, Wow! I was just given one of these saws last fall, and even though it seems to run fine, it had sat for a very long time so I ordered the carb kit for it. Parts for these saws are starting to get hard to find, but they seem to be a great little saw. Thank you again :)
You don't need to bend the throttle wire or risk breaking the trigger on this model. All you need to do is have all the screws out that hold the engine in the case. Once you start sliding the engine out of the case, the throttle linkage falls off of the trigger 99.9% of the time. Then, when you're putting the engine back in the case, insert it halfway or so, then reassemble the throttle linkage before inserting the engine all the way. Also, keep an eye on the coil wire, and the bar adjustment screw as it hits the inside of the case most of the time, keeping the engine from going all the way in.
good vid don, i have to replace the carb kit on my oleo mac 42cc, it wont take the throttle, difficult to start, its 25 year old, never failed till now.
thanks for sharing,, I have always tried to fix chainsaws but don't have any luck,, I have a vintage mcolluch 250 that I can't get running any suggestions
Thank you very much. I just got one of these fro. My wife's grandad. I was planning on doing a carb rebuild. One thing I haven't been able to find is was fuel mix to use. Any idea what ratio to use on this saw?
I came across one of these saws about a year ago. I have been using a 32:1 mix for about 4 hours of use, so far. Try to get an ethanol-free if you can find it. Minimum 91 octane.
I have had one of these for 20 years. I use a high quality 2-stroke oil that they say can be mixed half the recommended ratio. I use that at 40:1 in all my small 2 strokes and they run like champs with minimal smoke.
I bought a kit to suit a Honda GX35 powered line trimmer that my brother owns for $4.99 AUD & there was enough parts left over to replace the fuel pump diaphragm in my dads Honda GX35 powered line trimmer, the metering diaphragm was o.k in his !
Great video, but I got a question,at 3;36 into the video you disconnect a hose from the carb that goes into the oil tank, why this type of set up ? Oil into the carb straight from the tank?
Hi Dony....Great video library and most thorough I've seen. You've helped me tremendously trouble shooting issues and small engine repairs and up-keeping of my equipment. My hope is you'll read this question / issue I have and help with recommendation. I have a string trimmer, Stihl FS 80R. Idles ok but when ramping up rpm machine bogs down badly or cuts off altogether. My immediate issue is the black limiter buttons for the high and low adjustment. I need to remove them for full adjustment but can't seem to without feeling as though I'm going to break something and compound my problem..Can you help me with this. Thank you for your time.
I have an old homelite little red XL I’m rebuilding the fuel system and tuning it up. I’ve read on many forums about the fuel ratio mix for these saws and I’m confused! It says to use 32:1 that is a lot of oil but that was back when you used just standard 30Wt oil. Now everyone says either 50:1 or 40:1 will be fine with the new high-quality 2 cycle oil’s. WHAT IS IT?? Thanks
Awesome video, thanks so much. I ordered a carb kit for my Super 2 a few days ago, good prep before putting it in. Right now my Super 2 (new for me, bought used) idles so fast that the chain spins even when the trigger isn't down. I'm assuming the adjustment of the 2 screws you showed will resolve that problem. Any advice appreciated of course.
i have one of the new style briggs and stratton engines with the plastic carb i have cleaned it by taking apart but i cant get it to stay running it starts with the primer and once it burns that fuel off it dies. is there any tips or anything i am missing i have taken the plastic part with the fuel jets apart but still no joy.
Hey man I love the channel and I inherited a homelite super 2 I just fixed the rewind and I want to access the carb but the screws holding everything inside the housing are stuck not sure if locktite was used and concerned of using heat to loosen them being I think it's in aluminum. It's almost a torx / slotted combination any suggestions before I really torque and strip them? I'm not sure how to send a photo of the screw it has 4 points internally and then steps up slight for the other 2 points becoming wider to a slotted drive.
Great video, good job (as usual) ;) Maybe it wood be a good idea for you to start a separate list of videos for Carburetors rebuild with model of carbs? I'm asking because I have a Walbro WT-425 and I'm wondering how it can be adjusted properly. Nice to watch your videos ;)
Any chance you could shed light on which spark plug goes in my LX-30? I can't seem to find any reading material for the chains aw that doesn't have EXPIRED/FOREVER back ordered part numbers. ha!
Morning Don... I have a stihl 034 saw that is rough starting. When it does run you can change the rpm of the saw just by tipping it..Will idle ok on the ground but if you pick it up off the ground the rpms go up... Looks like an after market carb is on it. Impulse line ( yellow tygon) looks ok. Any direction? Thanks, and I hope you and the family are well.
the carb might need adjusting or a new kit. it's also possible that the saw has an air leak somewhere like a crank seal. also check impulse line first if it has one
It don’t take long to get carb off you can get to the fist screw drill hole big enough to get screwdriver in unscrew screw carb off that simple hope this helps
Hi I have the saw you just worked on I have replaced the diafram side already replaced it the down side is I am chalanged by direction is there any tips on how to rebuild the other side thanks.
Nice video! I have a Homelite backpack blower guess I need to do the same thing with been sitting for a while I think you did a video on them awhile back.😎😊
In the 1970's I lived in Alaska and heated with wood / coal. Had three Homelites of different sizes, and would cut 8 cord of wood per year. Those Homelites were great. Never let me down. I eventually moved back to Missouri, where I still cut wood, and so I again (about 8 years ago)bought a Homelite saw. What a disappointment. The quality is no longer there, and I gave up on Homelite.
Gene Ballay Just go back to using their old Saw's. Theirs a ton of them out their. None of the new saws they make now are as good as the old saw's, unless you wanna spend $1000 on a pro saw, you can still go out and find a trusty super XL automatic for around $150.
Hey Dony- what cleaning fluid do you use in your ultrasonic cleaner when cleaning carburetors??? Excellent videos by the way, the Lead Mechanic at the repair shop, watches your channel all the time!!
Hi, i have watch you site in couple years , and you are the honest man that I have a question please I recently bought chainsaw MS 250 CE With 18" bar . I was wondering it's that possible is the tough 18 inch I buy Canon or die there to do 24 inches instead of 18 I really appreciate it if you give me honest answer. Thank you very much
Good afternoon I have a super homelite 2 automatic oiling and when I put it to work begins to pour oil through the exhaust and put a lot of smoke, another one and the oil does not go out, what will it be? I appreciate your help because I do not speak English much THANK YOU
Pombos de vara Cascais It is likely you are missing the duckbill valve for the oil tank you can find item on amazon it is orange in color. If you do not see it at the top of oil tank when you take off the cap it is missing.
I've had one of these saws for years. The only problem I have with it is the fact that it won't idle for any longer than a minute or two when I lay it aside while cutting wood. It will start up right away as soon as I pull the cord but when I put it down it shuts off after a minute or two. Other than that, a great saw!
I've never used starting fluid in any of my carburetor rebuilds or engine tune-ups. Because if the carburetor won't prime itself with gas from the tank, and if the engine won't start within a few cranks, using starting fluid will be a false indication that the carburetor is drawing adequate fuel from the tank. Because if the chainsaw runs out of gas while the customer is using it, what's the chances of most customers using starting fluid to get it started again? Very few.
Where do you get parts at for this. The lawnmower shop by me doesn't have them I got 1 exactly like that. The only place I found a Homelite facility is in South Carolina and that's in the United States one place really
Donyboy, I have this exact same saw. The spring on the recoil is very weak. Often times, the starter rope will rewind VERY slowly. Do you know if there is a replacement spring sold for this? Thank you, I learn so much from your videos.
Patrick Wagz Have you tried cleaning and lubricating the recoil assembly? Had the same issue on a Super 2 and it was just that the recoil had built up a lot of dirt and debris around the recoil itself keepingit from spinning freely. After cleaning it works great.
Open up the coil mechanism, clean it and also untie the pull-handle and add a couple of turns to preload the spring. There's plenty of spring in there.
In my opinion, and this could start a knock-down drag-out wang dang doodle right here in your comments section, Goodman gives the best value, for a gas furnace, forced air. There's a lot to think about, though. Current fashion is run them a little under-sized. Are you replacing a furnace or building a new house?
You'll want to stay fairly close to existing capacity so there's no need to change duct size, and less of a chance of introducing noise to the ductwork. A quick Google search turns up a Goodman 80k BTU 96% efficiency for $800 or so. You won't use your existing exhaust stack or combustion air intake, but instead run PVC pipe for both. Also there will be a condensate drain tube and likely a condensate pump. Don't let anybody try and tell you $2400 installed - that's just excessive.

Thank God my primary chainsaw is a Homelite Super XL automatic from 1979, the carb is right over head under the air filter, no fooling around. Very easy to work on and it cuts fantastic.
donyboy73 for sure knows how to give a super presentation on a repair not like some of the would be pros. Nice job you should do this for a living !!
Just brought one of these back to life. Cool little saws great for limbing.
I like the way you showed us how to take the saw apart, and re-assemble it. I don't have a Homelite saw, but the same procedure probably works on the Poulan, and Stihl saws also.
WOW that was great. I have had my h l for 30 years and it's due for some love. Hope I can get it back running. Just started giving me problems.
Hey Dony, the hose going from the carb to the oil tank is a pressure line. These models did not have an oil pump. Uses pressure from carb to pump oil on the bar.
Young man, you have some of the very, very best videos on machine repair. Purple ribbon for you.
thanks andrew

Donyboy, very good work. thanks for taking the time to share your considerable expertise with hacks like me. It's a very selfless thing you do.
thanks, make sure you're subscribed
Thanks Dony. It looks like it takes a lot of patience to work on that saw.
Very easy to understand instructions
I just picked up one of these
From garbage tip
It has compression and good spark i will try to find a carby kit for it
After watching you go through all that to get the carb out I don't regret owning a Stihl Pro saw.
CTSCAPER I own Stihl and have one of these. These are superb saws. I've had mine 20 years and it's needed the carb out .... once.
I think the Homelite Super 2 and LX30 are some of the best chainsaws ever made.
My XL 2 has a Zama Carb, but the video is helpful because they’re similar.
Sooooo much detail wooow
Good job @donyboy73 !
Always love these vid's very satisfying even though i seen many of the same carb builds
just wanted to thank you for all your help! keep it up.

Good job. That carb linkage is the key. You have to hold your tongue just right. I have one and will use it next week to cut down a dead tree.
I find it hard to hold my tongue when doing extra fiddly things! lol
Disconnect that linkage from the trigger as you pull the motor out and you don't need your tongue. It almost releases itself.
thanks for sharing,, I have always tried to fix chainsaws but don't have any luck,, I have a vintage mcolluch 250 that I can't get running any suggestions

Sir only i ask,for this two tank, where is the put gasoline forward part or back part?
Front tank is fuel and rear is bar oil
I have a xl little red 94’ model. It’s very similar to this. So I assume it would be the same procedure?
yes

When you said oil are you talking about the bar oil? Or is this not a two cycle engine?
Ryan Silva Yes bar oil. The gas tank still requires premix 2stroke fuel.

Where can you buy the little pressure tester online?
Any chance you could shed light on which spark plug goes in my LX-30? I can't seem to find any reading material for the chains aw that doesn't have EXPIRED/FOREVER back ordered part numbers. ha!
What is the fuel to oil ratio for this saw?
He said to another person that he runs 45:1
What's the best fuel to run this on please
Morning Don... I have a stihl 034 saw that is rough starting. When it does run you can change the rpm of the saw just by tipping it..Will idle ok on the ground but if you pick it up off the ground the rpms go up... Looks like an after market carb is on it. the carb might need adjusting or a new kit. it's also possible that the saw has an air leak somewhere like a crank seal. also check impulse line first if it has one

nice how to video don

not much unfortunately
Not worth anything to sell, but worth everything as a useful tool!
Don what type of cleaning agent do you use in your parts washer for cleaning parts?
it's a parts cleaner from KLEEN-FLO
The original diaphragm was white , you put in a blue??? Are they interchangeable?? I've always thought they aren't
great video
It don’t take long to get carb off you can get to the fist screw drill hole big enough to get screwdriver in unscrew screw carb off that simple hope this helps
Hi I have the saw you just worked on I have replaced the diafram side already replaced it the down side is I am chalanged by direction is there any tips on how to rebuild the other side thanks.
Andrew Brubake
Thanks ,this helped me a lot.
Hey don boy i am having trouble with homelite chainsaw little red it want start and i do get it started it want idea
I'm still using a Super mini, it can be a little temperamental but it has a lot of oomph for a small saw.
Big Rockk Fit a carb kit plus new spark plug and it should be less temperamental.
Sehr gutes Video

Nice video! I have a Homelite backpack blower guess I need to do the same thing with been sitting for a while I think you did a video on them awhile back.😎😊
thanks for this Dony, ...
I remember years ago, Homelite saws were everywhere, now I hardly see them. Did the company go out of business? Nice rebuild and tune Don!
they just make more inexpensive saws sold at home depot

Hi db73. Is Homelite US or canadian manufactor?
I've never used starting fluid in any of my carburetor rebuilds or engine tune-ups. Because if the carburetor won't prime itself with gas from the tank, and if the engine won't start within a few cranks, using starting fluid will be a false indication that the carburetor is drawing adequate fuel from the tank. Because if the chainsaw runs out of gas while the customer is using it, what's the chances of most customers using starting fluid to get it started again? Very few.
